Forgotten Island Film Review

Dreamworks Animation have really become a force to be reckoned with in recent years with films like Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and The Wild Robot. The studio has just released there latest film which actually comes from the directors of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish something you really can tell right away and well this is film that I was somewhat dying to see and so then join me as I review the film that wasn't marketed all that well with the film in question being called simply just "Forgotten Island" enjoy.

The plot of this film is two best friends on there final night together find themselves sucked into a mystical portal and have just a few short hours to find there way back home. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very review well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's  actually featured / presented to us in in this very film was in all honesty really good. While the basic premise of the film of two characte5rs getting stuck somewhere and have to get home before a certain thing happens isn't a new premise this film does add something new to that idea by grounding the fantasy aspect of the films plot with the real world consequence of a character could miss a very important flight if there not home which is something that does make the idea feel fresh and new again. Whilst Disney are OK with copying the same plot over and over again with there films it does seem like Dreamworks love to take chances with the plots for there films and as in the case of this film it is something that does pay off as this is a plot that does have you hooked and while yes there are somethings in it that you can see coming a mile away the film does very quickly move past those and quickly throws you something new and different with it's plot and my god does it is work this is not to say that this films plot is great because it's not as if anything it does feel like the typical kids film plot only with more adult themes and ideas thrown into it but it's those themes and ideas that help to make this films plot feel special with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is H.E.R. as Josephine Cleopatra "Jo" Yuson and Lisa Frankenstein star Liza Soberano as Raissa Molina. Also starring in this film is Dave Franco as Raww , Manny Jacinto as Bungi , Jenny Slate as Batiba , Lea Salonga as Manang , Dolly De Leon as Lola Fatima Yuson , Jo Koy as Datu , Ronny Chieng as Truffle Wuffle , Kevin McCann as Mermahn , Tania Gunadi as Zippy and Eric Bauza as Button Wutton.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very review well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's  actually featured / presented to us in in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that we have some really good acting in this film was something that was quite surprising as you look at the actors that are in this film and you don't think of good acting heck due to how little known that this films actors are you think of at best OK acting and this is something that it could argued we do get in this film but in saying this tho it could also be argued that this films acting is alot more better then what it should have been due to the fact that this films actors are that little known it therefor allows you to see the character alot more and not just hear the famous person playing them. With the best actor in this film being Jenny Slate as Batiba as while she is playing the same type of character that she seems to always play in animated films she does it so well with her performance in this film being of no exception and while she's only in a few scenes in the film due to how important to the films plot that those scenes are she does make them count by acting her socks off in those with her making a character that could have been seen as being nothing more then a nothing character seem likable and someone that you actively want to see more off with her own natural likability really coming through in this film. With the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is DreamWorks Animation , Snipple Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very review well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's  actually featured / presented to us in in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that this films animation was as good as it is isn't really all that shocking as the film is just copying the style that was done on Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and while this is still very charming animation to watch and does still look really good it does make you wonder why the makers of this film didn't give this film it's own unique style and look. As this is animation and you can do anything you want with animation interms of the art style and animation style and it would work and while this film does try to mix things up by blending 2D animation with 3D animation which again does look good and does give us some pretty good anime refences the fact that that was the only new thing added to this films animation does make it look like that this is becoming the style for these directors and while of course every single director has there own style animation directors should also be able to diversify and give us a different look and style with each film to give a good example here both The Little Mermaid and Hercules both of which do share the same directors much like this film does and yet they both have very distinctive styles where your not going to confuse one for being in the other and yet here in this film this is something that could be the case, however with that being said tho this films animation is still really good with the film having lots of very pretty colors that do leap off the screen.

Without giving away anything that happens in this film this film does do something that alot of anime fans mock things like Fairy Tail for doing and yeah it is kind of annoying in this film. As it's something that was never built up in and therefor when it does happen not only does it come out of nowhere it also feels like that the makers of this film had written themselves into a hole and couldn't find away out therefor instead of doing something new and creative which they could have done they instead chose to do something that whilst it does work with one of the films central themes it was also kind of annoying to see as then theoretically it could work both ways which if that was the case then it makes the rest of the film pointless as well. If you've seen the film and you love anime then odds are you'll know exactly what I mean and if you haven't done any or either one of those then odds are you'll like it as as was mentioned it does tie into one of the films central themes and ideas with it being something that does work in this regard however it would have helped the film if the makers of this film took a moment to let the scene where this happens breathe as that would let us the audience think that something truly shocking and horrid has just happened yet they don't do that rather they just move along as if there to scared to let us feel any true emotions wen given the themes that this film is trying to tackle one of which being death and the loss of a loved one then it would have worked out all the more better if the makers of this film did let that scene breathe for a few seconds just let the emotions sink in a bit more before then going with the reveal that they end up going up with them being then able to really milk that moment and get every last sense of emotion out of it.

This film does tackle alot of mature themes and ideas like the idea of one best friend moving to another country as an adult for an example. This is something that really isn't tackled all that much in animated media or if it is it's usually done in a way where the friend ends up staying with there best friend whereas here in this film it's done in a more realistic manner as the we do get to the see characters talking about this big change that's going to happen and how that will effect there friendship moving forward this is something that alot of kids will have to deal with as it doesn't have to be moving to another country you could apply it to moving to another school or to moving across the country and it would still work as that core idea of two friends trying to work out what's next for there changing friendship is a universal theme. With the film being filled to the brim with themes that little kids might not get but the adults will with these things making the film feel alot more mature and like it's not made for kids even tho it's an animated kids film and while yes there will be things in this film that little kids will love like the use of classic songs for example and the character of Bungi who is this adult creature that still acts like a baby this is a film where it does feel like that more adults will watch and like it then kids or teenagers will but there could be a chance that kids will find more enjoyment out of the film then adults will as there alot more adults that won't watch animated movies as alot of them see animated films even ones that are made more for adults as not being real or beneath them and yet if they did give this film a chance then they will find a film that does have very mature themes and ideas in it and feels more mature then the latest live action film out at the moment.

This film does do one thing that alot of animated films like to do and that's have a twist villain which granted is still quite annoying in this film as this s a film that really doesn't need to have a villain in order for it to work. However this film does do something interesting by kind of combining it with a lier revealed story and while that story and idea is ne that is done to death in any kind of media this film again does something good with it by not not focusing on it to much and having it be resolved in quite literally the next scene with it being the character that the films wants us to think is a good guy actually being the one that helps one of the characters out with this being something that does help make the twist villain idea more of an easier pill to swallow as it does lead to a really good and heart pounding sequence. With the character that the films wants to like at first playing around with the idea of memories and how they can be a powerful thing which is a good idea with them using humans own memories to their own end and it is something that does work even when the character the films wants you to think is the main villain yet it turns out that this character was only acting this way due to the fact that they also had their memories taken from them thus turning them evil and while the character doesn't have a plan this is something that could be seen as a being a good thing as deep down this person isn't evil they were just dong what they were bon to do rather it was how they went about doing it that made them evil and this is a good twist as it would have been super easy for the makers of this film to give us a twist villain and just have them be evil for the sake of being evil and yet here there is alot of thought into not only making this twist work but also giving us a unique twist on the idea that does make this idea worth watching again as it does show you that the idea of having a twist villain can be good when it's done its done well.

Now the this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty eight minuets and fifty seconds. Whilst this is a decent enough running time for any film to have be it an animated film or not this is still a pretty long running time for the film to have and it is hard to picture kids sitting down that long to watch this film this is something that again does lend credence to the fact that this film is being aimed more towards teens and adults then it is kids and heck even alot of the main characters in this film are teenagers with none of the films scenes feeling wasted as they all do feel important to the film in someway shape or form with the film even having more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place. This film does even use it's running time very wisely due to the fact that this film does take the the time to fully develop it's plot as the film does have scenes in the film where the characters talk about the plot and what's happening with these scenes making the films plot feel alot more thought and well developed with the makers of this film putting alot of thought and effort into giving this films alot of plot development. Heck this is something that is also true for the films character development as both Josephine Cleopatra "Jo" Yuson and Raissa Molina with both of the characters learning and growing due to what it is that they go threw in this film be it being OK with one of your friends leaving for another country or accepting the fact that one of your friends helped to shape you bottom line being both of these characters to learn and grown as a result of this film with the makers of thiols film putting alot of thought and effort into giving alot of this films characters some character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk abut the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of really funny jokes in it all of which are NOT going to spoiled in this film as you all should go an watch this film knowing very little about it and just being surprised by how funny and how emotional that this film can be at times with the film having what can best be described as an anime style sense of humor to it and that is something that does work for this film as this film does at times very very much inspired by anime. With the best joke in this film not even being one that I can say as while it's not a spoiler in anyway it is however a joke that does lean in on anime as when the characters go to this bar to get something to eat the owner of the place tells them what happened to them the night before only for it to end up being a Dragon Ball Z reference which was really well done and it will be something that will get a laugh out of people who watched that anime with the whole film having jokes like that where they feel ripped right out of an anime almost as if the makers of this film where inspired by anime when they were younger and yet what makes this joke stand out is the fact that you don't see it coming and therefor when it does happen it does catch you off guard and you do end up laughing at it even tho it could have been seen as being a really bad joke with the rest of the films jokes being like that as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall if you haven't seen this film or you don't know that it's out yet due to how poor the marketing for the film has been you should for sure go and check this film out as while it would be hard for this film to become a franchise as a one and done film this is a really good film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and a such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images I personally used in tis very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images hat I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Cm and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
