Deadpool & Wolverine Film Review
When Disney bought Fox nearly ten years ago now there was alot of joy over the fact that we now could get the X-Men in the MCU. Yet there was also sadness as the MCU hadn't really done an R rated movie before and Deadpool is very much an R rated character and with Fox going to Disney it meant that the odds of there being a third Deadpool movie were slim yet that's exactly what we got in 2024 with even being an R rated movie and so then join me as I review the film that brought " Bye Bye Bye" back to the mainstream with the film in question being called simply just "Deadpool & Wolverine" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when his universe is threatend with being destroyed Wade teams up with Logan to find a way to save his universe and stop a villain named Cassandra Nova from destroying every single universe. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Look to be frank here one of the things that this film did got alot of flack for when it was first being released was it's lack of a strong plot and that is a fair point to make as this films plot is really thing at best. However tho to counter that point is the fact that this is a film that really doesn't need to have that strong of a plot to begin with as both the idea of these two heroes that people have wanted to see together finally appearing in a good movie together is something that the fans have been waiting since 2009 for and the general set up of the film is more then strong enough to support the whole film and while yet it would have helped the film out quite alot if the plot of this film was more then just an excuse for there to be a boat load of cameos and to lazily get from one great action scene to the next if the film did have a more stronger plot to it then it would loose alot of the more character driven scenes as the film would then be forced to remove those scenes in sake of the plot and while the plot should always come first it shouldn't come at the expanse of making the movie alot less fun to watch with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and a swell as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is one of this films producers and co-writers Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool and Nicepool , Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine , Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova and Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle. Also starring in this film is Rob Delaney as Peter Wisdom , Leslie Uggams as Blind Al , Aaron Stanford as John Allerdyce / Pyro , Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Paradox , Karan Soni as Dopinder , Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead , Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio , Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Piotr Rasputin / Colossus , Lewis Tan as Rusty / Shatterstar , Tyler Mane as Victor Creed / Sabretooth , Dafne Keen as Laura / X-23 , Wesley Snipes as Eric Brooks / Blade , Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / Human Torch , Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios , Jon Favreau as Harold "Happy" Hogan , Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau / Gambit , Aaron W. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that we have some really good acting in this film is something that does make alot off sense as we have two actors that have been playing there respective characters for years now with Hugh having first played Logan back in 2000's X-Men and Ryan having first played a version of Deadpool in the terrible X-Men: Origins: Wolverine therefor it does make sense that they would give us a good performance as they've had alot of time to work out what kind of performance works best for there characters. With the best actor in this film being Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool and Nicepool which is something that might seem like a cliche thing to say as he is really good in all of the other Deadpool movies including the newly filed scenes for Once Upon A Deadpool with him able to get across the fact that while this version of Wade is still fun loving and loves to crack jokes but it's also clear that he has gone threw something inbetween Deadpool2 and this film as he does act more mature and yet Ryan pulls it off really well with him and Hugh Jackman having some wonderful chemistry together. With the acting that's in this very film also being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is PixStone Images , Industrial Light & Magic , BOT VFX , Framestore , Weta FX , Barnstorm VFX , Base FX , Raynault VFX , Rising Sun Pictures , Lola Visual Effects , Cantina Creative , capital T , SDFX Studio and Digital Storm Pictures. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With The Void having alot of the films CGI be in from extending parts of the set from the cheeky in joke of adding in the 20th Centaury Fox logo all of which do look really good. With there even being alot of hidden effects in the film such as explosions for example which are things that the film that could have done with out due to the fact that when they do happen you can't see the actors faces and therefor you could have done them for real without having the risk there of harming the actor and while granted this film doesn't use CGI for every thing wen it does use CGI for things that could have been for real like alot of the background in The Void for example then it is something that does stand out as they could have built a large portion of The Void in a studio and have the rest of be added in later which for some scenes in does feel like that they did that but then in others looks like it was done in CGI, this is sadly a trend with alot of films as even the ones that say that they don't have CGI in them will still have CGI in them and nine times out of ten it's to create something that could have been done for real and yet when this film does do a practical effect like for example Logan's Skeleton it looks really good and will age alot more better then the rest pf the films CGI will do.
Really the best thing that this film is known for is it's cameos as it has a lot of cameo's in it with some of them working like for example Laura / X23 coming back. Then there are others like for example Elektra and don't get me wrong it was great to see Jennifer Garner back as that character but much like with alot of the resistance members her role in the film could have been played by any character and while her sole reason for her being in the film is so that that they can make a Daredevil 2005 joke it's not really enough to justify her being in the film with the same thing being true for Blade who again looks really good with Wesley Snipes still being able to kick butt but outside of the jokes about there only being one true Blade and the reference to the fact that he and Ryan Reynolds didn't get on during the making of Blade Trinity there was no need for him to be in this film. Infact out of all of the cameos it's only the Laura / X23 cameo that plays a big role as she is the one that's responsible for getting Juggernauts helmet to Logan and Deadpool and she is the one that convinces Logan to join in the fight by telling him that he is never the right person for the job, granted alot of the cameos where fun and do lead to some really funny moments like Gambit's accent being so thick at times at Wade just can't understand him which is a good joke and even the fact that when Wade first sees Johnny Storm he mistakes him for Captain America due to the fac that there being played by the same actor which is a good joke and is one that alot of the people who knew that Chris Evan played Johnny before playing Captain America will get right away but this doesn't change the fact that like alot of the cameos in this film his role could have been played by another character and it would have worked all the same.
Like with all of the Deadpool films there is alot of focus on jokes in this film with them even continuing the running joke of having Hugh Jackman be in the film this time with Wade calling Logan's skeleton Hugh. With the films jokes nine times out of ten being really funny with even alot of the fourth wall breaks being some really funny jokes with this being due to the fact that alot of the films writers also wrote and starred in the other Deadpool films and they therefor would have a good idea on this characters sense of humor as yes Deadpool's jokes are dumb but they are the smart kind of dumb as they do require you to think about what he's referencing even tho the reference might be really badly like for example they just straight up make a Will Smith slapping Chris Rock joke at the start of the movie which is a good thing to reference but the joke itself isn't that good. The only thing that does let this films comedy down is the fact that they do make Deadpool come across as being slightly more dumb then what he usually is as there's no way that he'd sacrifice another version of himself which was just a dumb idea in the first place and there's no way that he'd willingly lie to Logan to get him to help him out yes fair enough he wouldn't know if the TVA would be able to help Logan restore his own world and would therefor make that guess but he wouldn't lie to someone when he can see clear as day that what he needed to be told was the truth that just screams of something that Disney demanded be in the film to offset all of the really violent things that the character does, the film does have a really funny opening song number with Deadpool fighting TVA agents all the while the sing Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC plays in the background with Deadpool even doing some of the dance from the songs music video which was a really funny joke in of itself.
It could be argued that this film does have two villains with them being Cassandra Nova and Mr. Paradox. As Mr. Paradox does act like a secondary villain for good portion of the first half of the film as its due to him that both Deadpool and Logan end up in The Void in the first place and it's even due to him wanting to use a machine called a Time Ripper that Cassandra Nova later gets the idea to use the machine to wipe out every single universe except for The Void thus allowing her to rule over essentially the entire universe which is actually a really good plan and one that does take as a full advantage of the whole multiverse idea as they possibly could have done just due to the fact that the whole multiverse is now at stake. It does go without saying saying but Cassandra Nova is easily the better of the two villains in this film just due to the fact that not only do we get to spend more time with her as a character but also its due to the fact that she actively has a plan whereas with Mr. Paradox he disappears for a large portion of the film until randomly showing back up again near the third act of the film by which point the audience has already forgotten about his character and has already decided that we hate Cassandra more due to the fact that she does beat our heroes in a one and one fight just by using her mental skills and almost using kindness to beat them and while she doesn't really have a plan until the third act of the film this is something that very easily could have been chalked up to the fact that she was raised in The Void and would therefor not no of the Time Ripper in the first place nor would she know of where to find one therefor when she gets told about it in this film it does make sense that she would want to use it right away to reach her goal.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and seven minuets and fifty five seconds. Which is a really solid running time for this film to have given the fact that it does have to set up not only of this version of Logan is the same one saw in Logan but also as he is a different version of the character they also have to set up how he messed up his own world and whilst yes this is something that could have been done in a shorter running time given the fact that the fans have waited a long time to see these two together it does make sense that the makers of this film would want to make it last as long as they possibly could have done with the film having more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time in the first place. This film does use its running time as wisely as it could have done with the film taking the time to fully develop its plot as well as it could have done as while yes the films plot isn't that fully developed its still alot more better then alot of the multiverse films out as there a clear amount of passion on the part of the makers of this film to make that idea work and when the idea of having these two icons team up is as strong as one you do kind of end forgiving the film for not that much a developed plot with the makers of this film putting more thought and effort into the films many pointless cameos then they did into giving the films plot some plot development. The films characters are as well as they are ever going to be as Wade doesn't really need character development as he gets it in the previous two Deadpool films yet he still does get it with the same thing being true for Logan and to lesser extent Mr. Paradox also gets some character development with really the only character that comes to mind that doesn't get character development being Cassandra Nova and that's it which for this type of film isn't that bad but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This film does gave some really good action in it and while the films soundtrack does do alot of the heavy lifting in the action scenes as the film does make some great use of "Like A Prayer" it doesn't take away from the fact that the action that we see in this film is some really fun action with us getting a good look at both Wade and Logan both teaming up and doing some cool moves together and fighting each other. With the best action scene in the whole entire film being the scene where are heroes take on on the entire Deadpool Corps as we get to see them take them on in what can only be described as as being a throwback to 2D platform fighting games with Logan and Deadpool taking on several characters in both the foreground and in the background all while the original version of "Like A Prayer" is playing in the background and heck they even manage to sneak in bits of comedy as after the fight both Logan and and Deadpool walk up to Baby Pool who reveals that all of the members of the Deadpool Corps unlike Nicepool can actually regenerate which was nice a joke as was the fact that the fight really only stops when Peter arrives when it turns out that all of them not only love Peter but each of them have there own Peter with the rest of the action in this film being just as good a swell in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall yes this film could have been alot more better but given where the MCU was when this film came out this film does come across as being a breath of fresh air as its a film that isn't trying to tie into the main multiverse saga rather its just a dumb movie that's not afraid to be a dumb movie in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then bots and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very revie from Blogger , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
