Back To The Future Film Review
Out of all of the time travel movies out there Back To The Future is easily one of if not the best one out there. As it not only has the most fun with the concept of time travel but much like with The Time Machine tit treats the idea of someone travelling in time with alot of respect whereas a film like Avengers: Doomsday didn't as that film had the characters travelling in time and space for with it being explained how they could move in space as well as time despite it being a good film in it's own right and so then join me as I review the film that made the Delorean car cool with the film in question being called simply just "Back To The Future" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when teenager Marty Mcfly accidentally travels back in to time to the year 1955 and stops his own parents from meeting he has one week to get them to fall in love otherwise his entire family will no longer exist. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. If we're being honest here the plot of this film whilst it is really good is still a weak aspect of the film yet this is something that doesn't hold the film as idea of the film isn't it's plot it's the comedy. With the films plot being something that does go against alot of the typical things that we'd expect a plot to do as even tho we see the film through his eyes Marty isn't the main character of the film heck he is never the main character of any of the films is this case it's his parents with the plot around them being really well handled as there are alot of interesting things going on in the films plot and all of them work really well in the film and whilst yes there are places where the plot could have been tighter and things that don't add up when we take the sequels into account but for this film this films plot is about as good and as fun as it was ever going to be as it had the right people at the right time who had a clear passion for the film making the films plot be this good thing that is still talked about to this very day with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly , Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown and Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines McFly. Also starring in this film is Crispin Glover as George McFly , Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen , Claudia Wells as Jennifer Parker , Marc McClure as Dave McFly , Wendie Jo Sperber as Linda McFly , George DiCenzo as Sam Baines , Frances Lee McCain as Stella Baines , James Tolkan as Mr. Strickland , J.J. Cohen as Skinhead , Casey Siemaszko as 3-D , Billy Zane as Match , Harry Waters, Jr. as Marvin Berry and Donald Fullilove as Goldie Wilson.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that we have some really good acting in this film is nothing all that shocking as this films co-writer and director Robert Zemeckis is known for having some really good acting in all of his films even the bad ones and given the fact that while none of this films actors are going to be winning any OSCARS any time soon they all still are some really good actors in there own right with them turning in memorable performance in not only the sequels to this film but this film as well. With the best actor in this film being Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly which granted is a cliche thing to say as nearly everybody who has seen this film agrees that he is really good in it but it is something that does need to be started once again as the second he walks onto screen in Doc's house in 1985 he simply is Marty Mcfly with every acting choice that he makes all throughout the film being in service to the films character and being something that this character would say and would do and while Eric Stolz would have made for a fine version of Marty there's no denying the fact that Michael J. Fox just simply is that character so much so that it is hard to picture anyone playing this character on film ever again with his own natural charm and likability really coming through in this film. With the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Even for a film in the eighties when CGI was still just starting out this films effects look as good as they possibly could have dine and while yes more modern films do have better looking effects no one is going to ever deny the effects in this film look good because f the fact that they aren't used all that much with them only being used to create things that couldn't possibly have been created on the day of filming. As there is no way that the makers of this film would have been to able to get a car flying and speeding towards the camera and not would have have been able to do the time time travel effects near the start of the film for real and therefor they had to turn to CGI to do it and and with this effects and a few lightening effects later on in the film being the only real effects in the film it does mean that the effects team was able to give those effects all of there attention and because of that it does mean that we ended up with some good looking effects, whilst yes granted the flying Delorean does look a little but dated by today's standard that is something that is more due to the fact that the technology that we have to create good looking CGI wasn't around back then and therefor of course some of the effects are going to come across as being dated heck in ten or even twenty years time alot of the effects that we have today are going to look dated because that's how fast the world of CGI moves.
As was stated near the start of this review Marty Mcfly is not the main character of this film it's his parents George and Lorraine. This is not just me saying this either the films co-writer and co-producer Bob Gale has even said this to be the case as it's the parents that go through the major changes in the film with Marty just being the ringmaster behind it all with this being something that does work and does make sense as the whole idea for the film came from Bob Gale wondering if he would have been friends with his dad in high school with there even being alot of focus put on both George and Lorraine which is something that does make the scene where they do fall for each other near the end of the movie feel more earned as the pair of them are these likable characters have have nothing special about them but they are just normal teenagers in nineteen fifty five. This is something that alot of none fans of these films won't notice but the die hard fans like myself will and that's the fact that the Lorraine that we first see at the start of the film is clearly depressed as anything and is an alcoholic as we see about how she talks about how she and George where supposed to meet is something that did deeply hurt and scar her granted Biff might also be the reason for that as well due to what it looks like he's going to do to her in the climax of the film but alot of it is also due to he fact that that version of George wasn't a strong willed person who was willing to send of his novel rather he was a quite person who did let people walk all over him and Lorraine was someone who in her younger years was something that the older version of her said she wasn't with her even being happy in her youth but because she felt protective of George and didn't feel in love with him she felt forced to stay with him but by the end of the film she is truly in love with George and that is something that is reflected when Marty does return to see them in the improved 1985 where Lorraine is now alot more healthier and more importantly alot more happier then what she was.
Whilst this film is indeed a really good film there are a few things in the film that when you take the sequels into account don't really add up. Like when Doc first says that he's going into the future near the start of the film he says that he'll be able to see who wins the next twenty five world series and yet in Part II when Marty buys the Sports Almanac Doc has a go at him for doing the exact same thing that he was going to do fait enough when this film was being made the sequels weren't even being thought of but it is something that does create a character inconsistency with Doc Brown as the first film makes him sound like someone who is pro gambling and yet the second film makes him sound like someone who is dead set against it. Another issue with the film is the fact that for as good of a villain that Biff is there's really noting to him as a villain and while granted that might very well be the point as these are meant to be normal teenagers just going about there day to day lives there still should have been some extra menace to Biff as a character like maybe we could have seen him bully some more of the smaller kids at school or see him act like a bad person outside of the school just something to make him be more of a threat to our heroes as while he does still work as a character and believe me we will be talking more about him very soon in this review it does feel like the makers of this film really oddly enough held themselves back when writing him as when it comes to the sequels they really do let themselves go when writing not only for him but also for members of his past and future family with Biff oddly enough being the kind one out of the three members of his family that we really see in these films.
To be frank here Biff should have been arrested after the car chase in the town square not because of the fact that he and his friends where his using his car to chase someone down but rather it's due to the fact that he was clearly trying to kill Marty. Yet he gets let of scot free when he should have been arrested there and then as there are were countless witnesses who all saw what Biff was going to do this is something that does make him a scary villain and someone who is more then just your typical high school bully as Biff is willing to go to those dark places to get when at he wants whereas most school bullies will nine times out of ten just beat you up or threaten to beat you up but they will very rarely if every try to openly kill you. Another reason as to why Biff should have been arrested is the fact that it was clear as day that he was attempting to r*** Lorraine when she and Marty where in the parked car as while it's never said out loud that that's what he was trying to do it's clear as day by how he's acting and how she's trying to do anything to get out of the car that that's what he's trying to do and this is something that for all we could have known he could have done in the original timeline due to not only how depressed Lorraine is but also due to the fact that George can never standup to him and yet when George does finally knock him out in 1955 and starts a new timeline Biff becomes more a softer character and less of a character that is likely to try and kill you yet it doesn't change the fact that he still should have been locked for his first crime as that is something that in the new 1955 with Marty in it it would have prevented Lorraine from getting assaulted and taking Part II into account it could have prevented him from creating the alternative 1985.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty six minuets and six seconds. Which to be fair o this film is a really good running time for this film to have as the film does need that amount of running time in order to tell it's plot as well as it could have done and whilst yes you could have tried to cut this film down to a more breezy one hour and thirty minuets there's not rally any scene in this movie that you could cut out of the film as alot of scenes in this film are either setting up something that gets payed later in the film like for example when Marty takes the 1955 Doc to see the Delorean he mentions that there's electrical issues with it something which does come back near the end of the film or there helping move the plot of the film forward with this film having more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place. With this film using it's running time really wisely as the film does spend alot of time just on developing it's plot with the film adding in scenes and little bits of dialog that at first might not seem like much and could be seen as being a filler scene but then they come back into the plot and effect it in either or small or major way which is something that does make this films plot feel alot more well developed. The same thing is also true for the films character development as while yes granted Marty , Doc and Biff get no character development this is something that does make sense as both Marty and Doc get there's in the second and third film and Biff doesn't need character development as he's the main villain of both film and Part II with the only characters that really needed to get character development being George and Lorraine and those are the two characters that get it with George learning not to let people walk all over him and Lorraine learning that it's OK to be happy but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good acing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Alot of this films jokes not only land but land hard with them all holding up even over forty years later as hey are jokes that will never date and will never get out of fashion due to the fact that they are really well written jokes that alot of people can either relate to or recognise in the first place unlike alot of the jokes that we get in today's films that are all just popculture jokes here in this film there is not one single popculture or fart or burp joke in the whole film. With the best joke in the whole entire film being when Marty is first filming the car time travel and he think it'll run him down he takes a few steps to the side with Doc just giving him a look that makes him move back into his original position which is just such a good joke with it showing that Marty whilst he really does have faith in his friend does still want to live to see tomorrow and not get run over and yet Doc who really is super confident and that it'll work makes him stay exactly where he is all without a single line of dialog and yet because of the fact that we really do end up buying both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as best friends that this joke that on paper shouldn't be that good it really does oddly end up working with the rest of the films jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this movie is just s good that it does deserve to be watched again and again and the fact that are now eleven years into the future and this film is still being talked about be it due to the film itself or it's musical adaptation is just a testament as to how good that this film really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and a well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
