Ali G Indahouse Film Review

Believe it or not we actually a few days away from something that is quite rare and that's the fact this Friday there is a new Ali G film coming out. Granted that name won't mean much to Americans due to the fact that the character was never that big in American or at least he wasn't on the same level of Borat but here in the UK the character was actually bigger then the Borat character was so much so that in 2002 the character got his own film and so then join me as I review the film that is made of some really good actors with the film in question being called simply just "Ali G Indahouse" enjoy.

The plot of this film is hen his beloved Leisure Centre is threatened with closure gangster wanna be Ali G decides to run for MP of his hometown Staines where he becomes involved in a corrupt plot to remove the correct the Prime Minister. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This films plot is dumb and stupid but it's dumb and stupid in all of the best ways possible as this is a character that doesn't really demand a serious and well thought out plot as the idea of having someone who in his heart of hearts believes himself to be this hardcore gangster even tho he's anything but that is a good enough. Whilst yes fair enough it was always going to be hard to take this character who by design was only meant to be seen in a thirty show and that's it and then given him a plot that that wants us to like him and laugh with him in a feature film with being something that this film does do really well as the films plot is one that is dumb and is stupid but in all of the best ways possible with this being the case where the more over the top the plot gets the more fun the plot itself does end up being and while there is a case for a more serious plot also working it would rob the film of its charm if it did that , however tho to be fair the film is a bit light on plot with the film dropping its plot a few times in order to tell an out of nowhere joke with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is this films co-writer and one of this films executive producers Sacha Baron Cohen as Ali G and Borat Sagdiyev , Sir Michael Gambon as The Prime Minister and Charles Dance as Deputy Prime Minister David Carlton. Also starring in this film is Kellie Bright as “Me Julie” , Martin Freeman as Richard “Ricky C” Cunningham , Rhona Mitra as Kate Hedges , Barbara New as Ali's Nan , Ray Panthaki as Hassan B , Emilio Rivera as Rico , Paul Clayton as Alan Swan Lake , Olegar Fedoro as The Russian Minister , Tony Way as Dave , Eileen Essell as Mrs. Hugh , Daniella Lavender as A Maid , Capri Ashby as Nurse Nina , John Scott Martin as Mr. Johnson , Nabil Elouahabi as Jezzy F and Naomi Campbell as herself.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that this film does have as good acting in it as it has is something that is for the most part surprising as while he is a well known actor now back in the early 2000's next to nobody knew how good of an actor that Sacha Baron Cohen was and yet he is more then holding his own in scenes with both Sir Michael Gambon and Charles Dance even Martin Freeman who again wasn't that well known back when this film was being made still does give us a good performance with really the only real let down performance wise being Kellie Bright as “Me Julie” due to the fact that the character doesn't get alot of time to truly make an impression on anyone watching the film. With the best actor in this film being Sacha Baron Cohen as Ali G and Borat Sagdiyev as there is a scene in this film where his two characters meet and have an argument with each other and has to make you believe that these two characters really don't like each other whilst essentially having an argument with himself and this is something that he does pull off really well with him even managing to make Ali G who could be seen as being this unlikable person now come across as being a likable her that you wont to route for rather then route against altho to be fair he has been playing the character since 1998 with his own likability really coming though in this film. With the acting that's in this film really bein helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

The films characters for a TV show spin off film are a bunch of really good characters in there own right. With the only two characters fully crossing over from Da Ali G Show being Ali G himself and Borat and that's it with the rest of the films characters being created just for the film with even "Me Julie" despite her being referenced in episodes of Da Ali G Show never made an appearance in that show with her making to date her only appearance in this film and to be fair the characters that were made just for the film are handled about as well as could be expected as alot of them are really one note characters that aren't that fully fleshed out which in all fairness is something that could be seen as being one of the jokes of the film. Due to the fact that much like the films plot this film and it's characters are meant to be drawing from American films and using them as inspiration for the film and with this being a comedy it would make sense for the makers of this film to fully spoof the fact that alot of the side characters in America films are just lesser versions of the main character with one or two things added to them to make them stand out and that's really it with the most developed character in the film being of course Ali G with this mainly being due to the fact that the character had been around alot longer with him first appearing on The 11 O'Clock Show in 1998 before getting his own show Da Ali G Show in 2000 therefor of course he's going to be better done as the only thing that the makers of this film would have to do is just expand on what was told to us about the character on either sow and that's really it.

Alot of people think that the first film that the character of Borat first starred in was his first self titled 2006 film. Those people would be wrong as whilst yes fair enough that film is the more popular of the films that were spawned from Da Ali G Show the character interms of the films first appears in this film in one quick and you'll miss it cameo role which was quite frankly alot of fun to see as it does give us the chance to see the character in a film that has more of a linear plot to it as none of the Borat films have that and while the character doesn't take part in the plot of this film he really didn't need to as the chance to see him interacting with Ali G something which for obvious reasons they never did on the Da Ali G Show was something that did make this film worth seeing as we get to see how these two characters no matter how briefly would interact with each other. The only thing that could have made Borat's appearance in this film be all the more better was if the character was brought back in near the end of the film in some way be it him covering the fall of the films villain David which is something that would have made sense as the UK having a disgraced deputy prime minister is something that would have made world wide news or in a more comedic way like for example if jut before the end credits roles he shows up and he and Ali begin there fight all other again which yes in all fairness is something that is kind of dumb but given the fact that this is meant to be a comedy and it's therefor not meant to be that serious in the first place it is something that would have been fun to see but in all fairness given the plot of this film there was really no way that you could have this character be in the film all that much with his cameo role in the film being something that is fun to spot given just how big the character would become just a few short years later.

Unlike both of the Borat films and Brüno which before used the mockumentary format the same thing is not true for this film. With this film having a more linear plot to it which is something that does make it stand out amongst all of the films featuring those characters and yet it's something that really doesn't work for this film as this is a character that does thrive on not knowing how the people he's interviewing are going to react unlike with Borat where you know that if he says something insulting the person in question will just either laugh it off or say something much more worse but with Ali you never really knew what the reaction was going to be as it could have been something sweet or it could have been something much more worse then what Ali had said himself. This is something that is missing from this film as it makes the film feel more predictable and alot less anarchic whereas if the actors in the film where allowed to improve there reactions to Ali then it is something that could have made the film be alot more better and while it is understandable why the makers of this film took this approach as out of all of Sacha Baron Cohen's characters Ali is perhaps the only one where you can have a more linear plot to it as the character does have a life and does have friends outside of the shows that he was on therefor it would have been super easy for the makers of this film to go that approach but make the film be all the more epic for this kind of character which is something that they did really end up doing and to be fair to the film it does still regardless of which approach was taken due to the fact that with this approach we do get to see characters that were really only talked about in the show whereas if the film had gone the mockumentary route then that is something that might not have been possible in the first place.

The films villain David Carlton really was a pretty decent villain for the type of film that this film really is. As he's a no-nonsense character who will do anything to become Prime Minister even if it means making sure the current one get's voted out and yet this is something that really doesn't stop him from being a dull character as the character is hugely entertaining with Charles Dance being the right person to play this kind of character as he treats the character with the right kind of seriousness that the comedy the character has does come of as being all the more funnier because of how straight he's being played whereas if we had more of a comedic actor playing the role for laughs the character would just feel off somehow. Whilst we don't get to see that much of the character in the film when we do get to see him acting evil it is something that is all the more effective as you can always see the wheels turning in his head wondering just what it is that he has to do to stop Ali from being popular in the first place with his scheme of building a new runway that would demolish Ali's hometown of Staines being something that is so wonderfully over the top that it could only work in this film and while the character isn't that creepy of a villain with him coming of more as being childish then an out right villain this is something that does given the fact that alot of the characters in this film act that way it is something that does make some form of sense for his character to do the same thing altho in saying this if the makers of this film really wanted for him to be everything that Ali G isn't then having him act like this super smart character with an actual smart plan is something that would have made him more of a threatening villain and it would made his eventual downfall by all the more satisfying.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty seven minuets and two seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running time that you would expect a film like this one to have with the film being epic enough with that running time and yet at the same time tho this film could have been a little bit more shorter due to the fact that the third act does go on for a long while whereas if it was more tighter and more shorter then it would have allowed the film to be more funnier but due ton the fact that it is longer it does mean that issue that might have been seen as being very minor now come across as being very major as we are forced to spend more time on them with this film having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place. However tho this film still really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot which is something that whist it is still a bad it is also a good thing as this is a film that really doesn't require a fully developed plot in order for it work as that would just get in the way of the films jokes but in saying this tho it would have helped the film alot more if the plot of the film was alot more well developed with the makers of this film putting more thought an effort into the scenes where Ali talks to the audience then they did into giving the films plot some much needed development. This is something that very sadly does effect the films character development as none of the films characters get any kind of character development as none of the films characters learn and grow from the film but given that this is the kind of film where you don't need character development it is understandable as to why the characters didn't get any but it still would have been nice if the characters did get some development with the makers of this film putting more thought and effort into a pointless Borat cameo then they did into giving the films characters any kind of character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Whilst yes the films comedy could be seen as being bad in alot of places which is a fair enough case to make this is the type of the film where you do need to leave your brain at the door and just enjoy it as yes the films jokes are dumb and yes they are childish but those are the very things help to make it funny as we get adult characters not only acting like adults but doing so in over the top ways that they do become childish like for example the fact that we have two gangs at the start of the film engage in a street race only neither car breaks the speed limit which in of it self is a really good joke to have in the film. With the films best joke being at the start of the film when Ali saves some girls from being abused only to engage in all out warfare with him only stopping killing people to save the life of a kid of a who wondered into the street with Ali giving him a lecture about how precious life is before then killing several gang members with the whole opening of the film being one big joke as it's revealed that the whole thing was just a dream he was having which really is such a good joke to open up on as right away it let's us know that this film is going to be different from anything Da Ali G Show and The 11 O'Clock Show did with the character before then really throwing us right in to the characters world with the rest of the films jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst Americans might not like this film is it very much is a British film it is something that the Brits who grew up with the film and with the character will like as we are seeing a character that alot of us did grow up with being just as outrageous as he was on TV in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then  i've talked about all of the good and a swell as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and well as ladies and gentlemen I personally used in this very review from Amazon . Co . Uk , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
