Masters Of The Universe 2026 Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review
This weekend there are going to be some really good movies fighting for your money and your attention at the box office. With both big releases this week looking really good as they both appear to be made by people who are actual fans of the IP and not by people who don't know the heart and spirit of the IP itself with the first of these movies being the very film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today and so then join me as I give you SPOILER FILLED review o0f the film that is everything that the 1987 film should have been like with the film in question being called simply just "Masters Of The Universe" enjoy.
The plot of this film is several years after he is forced to go to Earth by his mother a grown up Prince Adam must return to Eternia and claim his destiny as He-Man. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films plot being pretty much a feature film version of an episode of the show in all of the best ways possible as while it does feature a very similar plot to the 1987 film it does do enough different with the idea that it makes that idea seem fresh and different. However tho this films plot is one that could have been done a little bit more better as both plots do do very similar things with the character of Skeletor which is fair enough as you do have to find a way to make the plot seem epic and to be fir to this film this film again does do alot of different things when it comes to its plot that you do end up forgiving it for the things that it does the same as the 1987 film and heck even the idea of having Adam essentially grow up n Earth and then have to return to Eternia is a good idea and its one that the film take full advantage of by giving us some good comedic moments in it, with this films plot feeling alot more campy in tone then the original films plot was with this being something that does make it feel more in line with that they did on the original show and not like something that they did in the original live action film with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Nicholas Galitzine as Adam Glenn / He-Man , Camila Mendes as Teela and Sir Idris Elba as Duncan / Man-At-Arms. Also starring in this film is Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn , James Purefoy as King Randor , Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena Glenn , Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress , Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm / Fisto , Jon Xue Zhang as Ram-Man , Sam C. Wilson as Kronis / Trap Jaw , Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto , Gary Martin as the voice of Beast Man , Tom Wilton as the voice of Cringer / Battle Cat and Jared Leto as Skeletor.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. To be frank this films acting was a lot more better then what I think alot of people thought that it was going to be as when people think of Masters Of The Universe be it the shows or the films they don't usually associate it with good acting and because of that it is possible that they thought that this film was going to go the same way which is understandable as alot of the films actors including its two main leading heroes aren't that well known and yet all of this films actors really do nail it in this film. With the best actor in this film being Nicholas Galitzine as Adam Glenn / He-Man as he really does capture the spirit of the original character by having him be at times campy and over the top but then he does put his own spin on the character which does allow him to have these more serious moments and while no doubt the great acting in this film was also helped by the fact that this films director Travis Knight really does know how to get a good performance out of all of his actors you can't take away from the fact that Nicholas does really make for a good live action He-Man as he clearly does give it his all with this really being something that does shine through in his final performance in this film. With the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Double Negative , Host VFX , Industrial Light & Magic and Untold Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that we did manage to have some really good looking CGI in this film is something that is understandable as alot of the VFX companies that worked on this films effects do usually give us some really good looking effects with them doing the exact same thing her in this film as well. While alot of the films effects are indeed really good with Cringer being a good example of this the film does rely a bit to much n CGI and while a film like this was always going to be an effects heavy film there's a ton of CGI effects in each and every shot of the film and it gets to the point where you wonder they didn't just make the film in animation since alot of the film is being animated in the first place and while we do get alot of really good looking effects when it comes to the films creatures when it comes to the films digital doubles they look really bad as it does become obvious that there not using the actor at that point with the worst example of this being Trap Jaw who in one shot of the film very early on does become a fully CGI character it looks bad with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film didn't give the effects artists the time that they needed to finish up on the films effects as when they are bad they do look like a cartoon but when they are good that's when they look like that they belong in this film.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In what was a surprising but fun move the makers of this film do include a fun little cameo from Dolph Lundgren who of curse played He-Man in the 1987 film. However that's not all as we also get Christopher Ragland as the voice of Orko and in an even more shocking move we also get a brief cameo from Adora / She-Ra who here is played by Lauren Saliu with both of the characters appearing in the films mid credits scenes with the She-Ra cameo being the most shocking as Mattel don't have the film or TV rights to the character Dreamworks do hence why she and He-Man haven't appeared on screen together since the eighties. This is something that does make her appearance in this film even tho it is a brief scene all the more surprising as it's something that the fans of both characters have been wanting to see happen again since the eighties altho it is something that does beg the question of how the makers of this film got her to be in this film in the fist place maybe its due to the fact that Amazon Studios are still working on a live action She-Ra show so maybe they were given the license to the character for a limited amount of time hence why she is able to appear in this film but either way it is great just to have the prospect of Adora meeting her brother again in a potential sequel to this film and as for Orko it's always fun to see him and while yes he can be annoying that is also apart of the characters charm with his inclusion in this film fixing a huge mistake that the 1987 film made as he and Gwildor are basically the same character therefor it made no sense for them in that film to replace his character with the exact same character only there able to make the character cheaper and while he doesn't appear in the main body of the film this is something that does work for the film as it does allow for the makers of the film to save him for a surprise cameo.
Whereas the first film borrowed more stuff from the toy line to the point where it was more of an adaptation of the toy line then it was the show. Here it seems to be the other way around as you can tell right from how the characters look to certain music cues that this film is borrowing more stuff from the show then it was the toy line and to be frank this is something that is going to be difficult for alot of people who didn't grow up with the show and have only seen the memes of the show as to them that original show was a badly done show that was only there to sell toys and while that last part is indeed true it was also a fun to show and with this film embracing the more campy nature of the show it does make this film alot more fun to watch. As we do get scenes where the characters stop to make jokes and we do get scenes where Skeletor is acting alot more goofy then what he did in the original live action film and while there is a case to be made that the more serious version of the character that we got in that original film worked better here having him be more fun and having be more goofy is something that does work with the fact that this film is trying to recapture the spirit and tone of the original with even the makers of this film going as far as to include things like Prince Adam's pink shirt as the main costume of choice for Adam when he's not being He-Man as that is something that the makers of this film didn't have to do and yet due to it being made clear as day that they have more love and respect for the eighties show then what Kevin Smith had it is something that did add in and while it's not something that alot of the people going to watch this film will notice it is something that the older fans who are watching this film will pick up on.
The thing that was kind of annoying in this film is the fact that they did the exact same thing with Skeletor in this film that they did with him in the first film. As much like at the start of the first film they open the film with him already taking Castle Grayskull and with him essentially forcing Adam to go to earth with the only difference here being the fact that it's for his projection and was done at the behest of his mother and that's really it as even his plan in this film is very similar to his plan in that original film where he wants the sword of power so that he can gave ultimate power in all of the universe which to be fair is a good plan and is a good way to make this character cinematic but at the same time your just copying something that done better in a worse movie. While yes granted his main plan in the show was to take over Castle Greyskull there was never any mention of him wanting the sword of power therefor when that turned out to be his plan in the 1987 film it was something that did make that film feel all the more cinematic as we've just seen him reach his goal from the show yet here in this film as we've already seen what he can do with the sword of power thanks to the two Kevin Smith animated series it makes no point to show us that being his main goal again but to be fair to this film we do see him take steps to reach that goal by having him send people to attack Adam and Teela and when that doesn't work he goes after Adam mentally by promising that he'll let him see his parents again if he gives him the word which is a good idea and while those plans of course don't work out for him with him being foiled by He-Man both times they are things that do make him to be an effective villain and while yes this version of the character is alot more goofy like the he was in the original show he does still work as a villain in this film.
Now then this film really has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twelve minuets. This is something that again alot of people are going to be quite fifty fifty on as while the film does need that amount of running time due to the fact that it does have alot of characters to set up and to set up the world that this film takes place in and still tell a good story that is still quite a long running time for what is essentially a kids action film and while yes this film did need to be that long due to how much stuff that it has to fit in the film could have done with being cut down by about ten minuets as there is a huge portion of the middle of the film that does feel like it's dragging on a bit with the film even having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. This film does use its running time as wisely as it could have done as there is no way that they could gave had a fully developed plot when the film is being more based off of the show as the show itself didn't have much of a plot to begin with and yet hey do still try and add things to the plot that do help to make it feel more developed like the fact that when kid Adam is being transported to earth in the process he does loose the sword of power and has to spend years on Earth just trying to find it and the fact that they do make Adam and Teela each others love interests both of which are good ideas but the film doesn't take the time to fully flesh them out with the film being more focused in giving us scenes with Adam on Earth then it is anything else. This is something that does somewhat effect the films character development as much like with the plot the original show didn't give the characters any kind of character development and with this film being based off of the show it does make sense that none of the films characters would et character development but in saying this tho it still would have been nice if say Adam or Teela or even Man At Arms got some character development but the film is more focused on giving us pointless CGI filled scenes that it does forget to do that but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is ana action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Look to be frank this films action was awsome but at the same time tho it does feel like that the film has one to many action scenes with the film having one at the very least once very thirty minuets or s ad while that it is fine for an episode of the show for a movie you do need to space them a bit more then that just so that us the audience can have a longer time to catch our breathes. With the best action scene in the whole entire film being the character where Adam as He-Man goes to attack Skeletor at his home on Snake Mountain only for Skeletor to come prepared and through dozens of allies at him with He-Man at first taking a beating from them but when he sees just how proud that his father is of him he gains the courage to continue fighting forward with him easily disposing of all of them in really unique and fun ways all of which do show of just different Adam is to He-Man as when he is Adam he can't fight all that well and struggles to do the most basic of moves and yet when he's He-Man not only does he do those moves with ease but he's also able to take on several people at once and not even break a sweat doing so and while he doesn't fight Skeletor himself in that scene the two of them do come close to fighting with the scene on the whole being a really fun filled scene that does tell you that the makers of this film really did know how to craft an action scene that oddly enough feels like a He-Man type of action with the rest of this films action being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall while the 1987 film does have nostalgia on its side this film is easily the better of the two films as it no is based off of the show but it does also gives the fans of only the show but of the He-Man character everything that the 1987 film just straight up refused to and because of that this film is all the more better in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
