Disclosure Day Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review
There are some films that you just have to see on the big screen and any film by master director Steven Spielberg is always going to be one of them. As you never know just what it is that your going to be getting but you always know that it's going to be something special no matter what it is and well he has just released a new film which has just toped Obsession at the box office and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that had some really good marketing behind it with the film in question being called simply just "Disclosure Day" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when two people who don't know each other suddenly start acting strange after looking at a bird they have to outwit a company that really wants to keep one of it's dirty little secrets hidden. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Whilst yes the above summery is perhaps not the best summery of the films plot out there it is the best that I can do without giving away much of what happens in the film itself with the plot of the film being one that is quite hard to describe as so much of it is something that could be considered a spoiler. However the plot of the film is one that is actually fresh and new and because of that the film does get alot of credit for telling an original story but in saying that the films plot also isn't the strongest thing about the film as for alot of the films shockingly long running time it does feel like nothing is actually happening to advance the plot of the film with the films plot being at best weak as it's not strong enough to carry this films entire running time with the film frequently dropping its plot so often and for so long that it does get hard to tell just what the main plot of the film is meant to be but when the film does focus on its plot that's when the films plot does become alot more interesting to watch with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Emily Blunt as Margaret Fairchild , Josh O'Connor as Dr. Daniel Kellner and Colman Domingo as Hugo Wakefield. Also starring in this film is Eve Hewson as Jane Blankenship , Wyatt Russell as Jackson , Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Casper Boyd , Elizabeth Marvel as Sister Maura , Hettienne Park as Serena , Tommy Martinez as Dave Santiago , Gabby Beans as Angela Childs , Jeremy Shamos as Claypool , Brandon Wilson as Nathan Twinning , Revon Yousif as Reza , Elliot Villar as Diaz , Noah Robbins as Munsey , Michael Gaston as General Dobbs and Colin Firth as Noah Scanlon.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This something that's not really all that surprising as pretty much all of Steven Spielberg's films have good acting in them with this film of course being of no exception to that with it being helped by the fact that all of this film actors really do nail all of there characters with Coleman getting a special shoutout as he is having a really good year with both this film and Michael being box office hits with him being really good in both of them. However tho he is not this films best actor as that honor goes to Emily Blunt as Margaret Fairchild as she has to play a character who can at times be funny and yet all of the time is scared out of skin by these new powers and she to it subtly which is a really hard thing to do and yet she pulls it off with relative ease with her even having some really good chemistry with both both Wyatt Russell and Josh O'Connor something which does help all of there performances feel all the more real as if she had no chemistry with ether or both actors then her scenes with them would have felt forced but due to the fact that she does have great chemistry with both of them she is able to relax a little bit and be more of herself which is something that does come through in her performance in this film. With the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Legacy Effects and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Weta FX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The films CGI can be a bit of mixed bag of affairs at certain points in the film as there times where it does look genuinely quite good which given the fat that Weta helped to do the effects for this film is something that is to be expected but then there are times where they do look a little unfinished not bad but like they could have done with a just a few more hours rendering before being added to the final film. Like for example we do get some CGI cars in this film and alot of them don't look the best as you can tell that they are fake but then out of nowhere you will get a CGI car that actually looks pretty decent with the same thing being true for the films use of CGI animals as alot of them do look really good with them looking very life like but then you will see one that does look a little off and while it is to be expected that this film would have some really good CGI in it as alot of the best films that have good effects do have one or two effects that don't look good here it does sting all the more as we know from what Weta have worked on that they are capable of turning in some really good and some cases game changing effects and that's just not what we got here in this film. Granted alot of it could have been either a budgetary reason or a timing issue like maybe the effects houses just didn't have the time that they thought that they had do all of these effects as well as they could have done which is fair enough but either way someone be it the makers of this films or someone working for either effects company should have stepped in and said that the effects really aren't up a to high standard.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look if we are being real here the marketing for this film has neem stupendous as we are told next to nothing in any of the films trailers or in the posters. Heck even all of the trailers for the film don't use any footage from the films third act thus meaning that if you want to see what actually happens in the film then you have to buy a ticket for the film this is genius marketing as it means that no one can leak anything from the film as there's nothing to leak in the first place with it also meaning that people have to go and see the film to see what happens next which is something that will bring alot more people back to the movie theater and it's something that has worked as this film has become number one at the box office thus proving that people do want to see more films like this one and do want to be surprised and don't want everything spoiled for them in the films trailers. It is so rare these days to know of a film where you know next to nothing going into the film as alot of the time the production companies will have alot of things in the films trailers that are spoilers and they will tell us alot of the things that are going to be in the film granted this is mainly done to hype up the film which is fair enough but it then robs us the audience the chance to discover that thing for ourselfs as we know its in the film due to it being in the trailers. Yet here with this film we didn't really know about the film until the first two teaser posters dropped and the teaser trailer dropped and even then we still didn't know all that much but what those did do was get us excited for the film itself and that is exactly what the marketing for a film should do it shouldn't give away every single plot point like of the major summer blockbusters do these days they should tell us just enough to get us interested in seeing the film and then tell us nothing more and that's exactly what the marketing for this film did.
Look to be fair there is alot of good things to be found in this film but there are also just as many bad things in the film as well. Like for example the fact that none of the films characters are not only that interesting but they aren't also that well thought out as characters either with the film more often then not feeling over stuffed with characters whereas if the film cut down on the amount of characters that it has then it would allow for the films main characters to get more of the focus and to be more thought out as they would have more time dedicated to them and it would make them feel alot less like background noise and more like well thought characters as the film would have the time to make them feel more well thought out as characters. This film does also feel like it would have been better suited as a TV series then as a feature film as the idea for the film is a solid idea but due to the fact that the film has so many other ideas all fighting for screen time as the film does introduce things like Margret and Daniel not only having these powers with Daniel being able to see sums as if there English and Margret being able to see what people not only want but also what they think and in some cases miss this is something that on its own is a fine idea and the film does do the best that it could have done with those ideas but if it was a TV show and not a film then it would allow for both of those ideas to be more fleshed out like for example the film has this device and that allows Noah to talk to anyone anywhere in the world with Hugo also having one but the film never really takes the time to explain not only how it works but also how it and why it nearly kills Noah after he uses it for a long time but not Margret when she uses it in the films third act. Yet if this was a show and not a film then all of its ideas could be more fleshed out and make what is a good idea in the film seem like a great idea due to there being more time spent on fleshing out that idea in the first place.
It is hard at times to work out who the main villain is meant to be alot of the time as while Noah does act the most like a villain throughout the whole film Hugo himself does things that make it look like he's a villain. Like for example he does keep both of the main characters in the dark with him openly admitting that's been spying on Margret for sometime which is a pretty creepy thing to do but with Noah he is more the obvious villain as we do see his men attacking Daniel and Jade in a few chase scenes and heck Casper Boyd does actively try to kill both Margret and Daniel by ramming his car into there car and into an oncoming train however Noah doesn't have that much of an evil plan in mind outside of getting back this one device that Daniel took for Hugo. Whereas Hugo whilst his plan isn't evil it is still very villain like as he wants to bring down Noah's company granted it is for a good reason as they did torture and know of aliens for decades but its the fact that he went as far to bring in someone to steal something for him that does make him seem like a villain in a small way which ight be the point of both of there characters as they are meant to be the same kind of character only Noah is more upfront about being villain where as Hugo is more willing to listen to people and hear what they have to say and heck during alot of the early scenes with Hugo we only see him on what looks to be a soundstage with some kind of set being built around him whereas with Noah we do seem him taking a more active role in the film but even so Noah's plan just isn't that good as we never get to find out why he wants this device in the first place as he already has one of his own therefor him having two of the same thing just doesn't make all that much sense, where as Hugo wanting to destroy Noah's company does make sense due to what he not only saw but possibly helped them do to those aliens in the first place.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and eighteen minuets and thirty one seconds. Which even for a film like this where it did need that long amount of running time in order to tell its story in a way that does some form of justice to it is still a bit on the long side with it not really helped by the fact that the film does start to drag on a bit near the middle to the end of the films third act with this being something that does again hit home the point that this film would have been much more better served if it was a TV show and not a film as then the show could be even longer which would allow for the ideas in the films to be fleshed out at a more organic pace with the film having more then enough plot there to really cover that amount running time in the first place. However the film does use its running time wisely in one respect as the films plot is about as well developed as it was evet going to be given the fact that this story is for a film and not a TV show as the makers of the film do take there time in setting up and paying off things in the films plot that do make it feel more well thought out and whilst yes it would have helped the film out quite alot if there was more thought and attention given to the films thin plot the fact that it ended up being as well as developed as it was does show us that the makers of this film did put some level of thought into the films plot. The same thing absolutely cannot be said for the films character development as they didn't bother to give any of the characters any kind of character development with characters like Jackson and Jane just straight up disappearing from the film with Jackson never being seen in the film after the films second act and with Jane she disappears for so long that you do forget that she's even somewhat of a character in the film with the same thing being true for all of the films main characters as well as none of them have anything about them that makes them feel unique or well thought out either with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film cared alot more about showing off Margret's powers then they did in giving any of it's characters any kind of character development but I really will admit that that the film does have some really bad pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a drama that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty pretty good. With the films drama being handled really well which is something that does make alot of sense give the fact that this film is being directed by Steven Spielberg but even so there are times where it was hard to tell just what type of film that this film wants to be as there are times where it does become an action film and there are times where it does become a thriller and while those elements work for the film this film is at its best when its a drama as that's when we get some level of insight into what the characters are feeling or thinking and while none of the films drama will make us cry you can tell that there was some level of thought put into the films drama aspect. With the best bit of drama in the whole entire film being when Daniel and Margret just walk past a whole lot of Noah's guards and we see it from there point of view where we see that Margret is showing them images of loved ones that they presumably have lost and is telling them things that she knows that they need to hear even tho they might not want to hear which is just such a cool moment to see in the film and while the film doesn't explain how she is able to do that as she was never able to that before in the film it is still a pretty sweet scene to see and it is something that does make you wonder what people like Daniel or Jackson might see should she use that power on either of them and heck this film really is more then worth seeing for this scene alone as it really is so well written , acted and directed by all involved with the rest of the films drama being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall this is a film that whilst it would have made a better TV show then it does a film still does need to be seen on the big screen as it is still a Steven Spielberg movie and those are films that are always worth watching on the big screen no matter how bad the film ends up being with this film being that does prove that he still does have what it takes to makes us believe in the magic of film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
