DC League Of Super-Pets Film Review

When people think of the DC movies that Dwayne Johnson helped to make alot of people do just mention that dreadful live action Black Adam film. Yet not alot of people remember the fact that he also starred in and produced an animated and it's that very film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today as Warner Bros for some odd reason really loves Krypto these days and so then join me as I review the film that sees Jessica Cruz make her theatrically released featured film debut with the film in question being called simply just "DC League Of Super-Pets" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped by a Guinea Pig that wants to take over the world it's up to Krypto and rag tag group and super powered animals to save the day. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. This films plot is typical kids superhero comedy film plot with nothing all that new added to it which is something that would have been fine if this was either a Lego direct to DVD  movie or a Teen Titans Go movie as those are mostly made with little kids in mind and yet this film got a theatrical release and with that you do expect the plot of the film to be a little bit more better then what we ended up getting. To be fair what ended getting plot wise wasn't that bad it's just that it could have been so much more better with it feeling like the makers of this film were so afraid to add in things that might make the plot of this film be all that more better with them instead choosing to play things safe which again if this was a Lego direct to DVD  movie would be understandable and while this films plot isn't all that bad it's not really all that good either, This is a plot that could have been alot more stronger then what it ended up being as while it's not a bad plot it's just not one that does get alot of focus to it as the film oddly enough gives more thought and focus into the plot with Krypto learning that Superman might want to be friends with other people and not just him then it does it's main plot with the plot of this film also bein really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is one of this film producers Dwayne Johnson as Krypto , Anubis and Black Adam and Kevin Hart as Ace. Also starring in this film is Kate McKinnon as Lulu , John Krasinski as Clark Kent / Superman , Vanessa Bayer as PB , Natasha Lyonne as Merton , Diego Luna as Chip , Marc Maron as Lex Luthor , Thomas Middleditch as Keith , Ben Schwartz as Mark , Olivia Wilde as Lois Lane , Jameela Jamil as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman , Jemaine Clement as Arthur Curry / Aquaman , John Early as Barry Allen / The Flash , Daveed Diggs as Victor Stone / Cyborg , Dascha Polanco as Jessica Cruz / Green Lantern , Keith David as Dog-El , Maya Erskine as Mercy Graves , Yvette Nicole Brown as Patty , Alfred Molina as Jor-El , Lena Headey as Lara , Busy Philipps as Foofy Dog , Dan Fogler as Carl , a Pilot and A Racer and Keanu Reeves as Bruce Wayne / Batman.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. To be frank this films acting was alot more better then what it really had any right to be as you look at who is starring in this film and you don't right away think of good quality acing you think of mostly safe actors who can get people to go and see the movie and that's rally it and yet we still did manage to get a lot of really good performances in this film with even Dwayne Johnson himself not being all that bad in the film. With the best actor in this film not even being someone who is one of the main actors of the film as the best actor of this film is Keanu Reeves as Bruce Wayne / Batman as the second you hear not only that he's in the film but also who he's playing in the film you right away think of just how perfect that that casting is yeah it's just as perfect as we all think that it is and while Keanu doesn't get to do a whole lot in the film this is something that does make sense as the film is Krypto's story but that doesn't mean that he sleepwalks through his performance as he is trying to turn in a good performance and while true he's not as good as Kevin Conroy was at voicing the character he's also not as bad as George Clooney either. With the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely anything to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film really is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Animal Logic. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films animation being of pretty high quality but at the same time tho it's animation does feel like that it's lacking that extra something to make it stand out as it does feel like the kind of whacky and zippy animation that you would want to see in any Illumination film whereas with DC as they are so well known for there animated output you do expect the animation to be that little bit more better. As this films animation is lacking alot of detail both in the characters fur and in the backgrounds alot of the time with the animal characters looking furless alot of the time which works for Lulu as she is meant to be furless but for the rest of the films animal you do need to see that hey have fur to make them standout from Lulu and with the films backgrounds alot of the time they do feel like that they were done cheaply as again there's nothing in them that makes them standout from other animated films at least with Teen Titans Go they add in jokes in the backgrounds and while that is true to lesser extent in this film as well here the backgrounds don't have there own look to them with the backgrounds in this film looking like the backgrounds that you see in a typical MCU movie. However tho this films animation does become alot more alive during both the films more emotional moments with it feeling like that the makers of this film did allow the animators to let the characters act and in the films action where the animation does leap pf the screen and help to make what could have been seen as being really dull looking actions scenes now feel fun and creative again.

This is something that will shock some people but this film is actually the first theatrically released film to feature Jessica Cruz. As alot of the time the character only appeared in either direct to DVD movies or TV shows and while much like with alot of the other Justice League members she doesn't get alot to do in this film she is still a pretty fun character with her having alot of one liners and quips that do make her feel more like a well thought character however tho the film doesn't do anything with her with the film not even having her be like she is in her comic books were she is afraid of being hero and where he does question herself and question if she's doing the right thing or not granted this might because of the fact that the character would have changed alot since her debut comics. Those things tho are things that do make her a well rounded character as it gives her an arc and things to over come with it showing us that she isn't this perfect character ad that she can make mistakes whereas this films take on the character is written to t be a perfect character but as close as they can to that without her being more powerful then say Wonder Woman for example and it is something that whilst it's not an annoying thing to see in the film as this film was made with little kids in mind but at the same time it would have helped the film out if we got to see the Justice League struggling to cope with there situation and have to comfort each other much like how Krypto and his friends struggle all throughout the film as then it would not only give all the Justice League members more to do in the film rather then just comment on what Krypto is doing but it would also give the films target kid audience a chance to see why these characters are so well beloved in the first place and for a character like Jessica who hasn't been around  for that long at this point in time that is something that could have given her alot more fans.

For some odd reason this film does put alot of focus on the relationship between Clark Kent and Krypto which is something that does make sense for both the characters and the plot of the film. However tho it is something that does make the film feel alot more like a secret The Secret Life Of Pets film as it is so generic and while that is something that alot of little kids won't pick up on as they'll just be seeing a character that they like being saved by a dog and his friends but to those that not only grew up with Krypto in the comics but also the animated show as well it is something that does leave you scratching your head alot of the time. As we know that Krypto is not only great around other dogs but also around other humans and yet this film does get rid of that aspect of his character all so they can have him become that character ay the end of the film when there are so many cool things that they could have done like for example they could have had Krypto be upset at the thought of loosing Clark because they are both the last of their kinds and this is something that the film never touches on outside of one brief scene at the start of the film and that is sad as it is something that does give Krypto a genuine reason to be upset when Clark does start to neglect him for Lois. There are some small positives to be fond in the film as well like for example the character dynamics with Krypto and his friends is genuinely fun to see with him and Ace getting some of the films best laughs and the fact that the film does tell some good jokes with Merton alot of which do work despite the fact that they are the kind of jokes that you do expect them to tell given the fact that Merton is a turtle however given the fact that he gets superspeed is a new and actually funny idea but the film doesn't do all that much with it outside of showing him accidentally run to another town and that's it.

Another one of the highlights of this film is the character of Lulu as she is such a fun villain with Kate McKinnon being the perfect voice for this character. With the character being able to go from cute to down right evil at the drop of a hat being things that do make this character alot of fun to watch as you never really know just what it is that she's going to do next and to be fair to this film this is something that does make the character unpredictable and with them pushing the fact that she is a Guinea Pig as far as they possibly could do by doing things like having her in her small form for alot of the film and the fact that she was a literal guinea pig for Lex when he was testing out all sorts of colored Kryptonite on her. With the only thing that does let the character down a little bit being the fact that her plan to take over the world is about as generic as it comes and granted for a film like this her plan does work but given the fact that she has quite literally a small army of superpowered guinea pigs at her disposal and has all of the members of the Justice League trapped and primed to explode you do expect her plan to be a little bit more different then what it is but the film does get some credit for having her be smart by having her strip Krypto of his powers pretty much the first chance that she gets which is something that does right away give her the advantage over him in any fight that they two of them have in the vast majority of the film with her even using her own powers to out do him alot of the time which is a smart move and it is something that does make her an actually competent villain as now it forces Krypto to try and grow as a hero and find a way to beat her without using his powers thus becoming a better hero because of it, yet if her plan was just that little bit more different like maybe she wanted to kill of the Justice League because she thought that it would impress Lex which yes is a bit of a downgrade from taking over the world but it is perfect for that character given the fact that she idolizes Lex.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty five minuets and twenty two seconds. Which not only for a kids animated film but just an animated film in general is a bit on the long side and given the fact that this film was made with little kids in mind this film should have come in at well under one hour and thirty minuets as the fact is your just not going to get kids to sit still for a film that's alot more closer to two hours and while there really isn't alot of things that you could cut out of the film to get have it meet that running time what you could do is remove alot of the stuff with Justice League as alot of there scenes are just the same scene over and over again which does make them feel alot more like filler scenes. The film does however have the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place and yet even so it still doesn't use its running time all that wisely die to the fact that the film doesn't take the time to fully develop its plot with the film giving us alot of scenes sowing us the bond between Superman and Krypto and being alot more focused n the plot between those two character then it is in giving us a more well rounded main plot when it's the main plot that alot of people are going to remember more then then subplot with Krypto learning to let Superman be his own person. This is also something that does kind of effect the films character development as while Krypto does of course get some character development as he is the main character of the film none of the other super pets get any character development with them all ending the film in the exact same place that they ended the film in with this being something that could have been fixed if the makers of this film were bothered to give them screen time where they could become fully developed characters but due to the fact that this film is alot more focused of making sure that we know that Krypto is the main character it does mean that none of the characters can have any kind of character development whatever but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Heck this films action is so good that you could very well make the point that it's the best thing about the film with the thing that makes this films action standout being the fact that we get to see the films animation really come alive with each and every hit feeling all the more impactful with the makers of this film kind of taking full advantage of the fact that this is an animated film by doing things that they wouldn't be able to do in live action. With the best action scene in the whole entire film being the films third act as not only do we get to see all of the super pets using there powers which is something that will always be cool to see no matter the film but we also get to see just how powerful Lulu can become when a piece of orange Kryptonite bonds with her DNA and when you add in the fact that the super pets only have a few minuets to save the Justice League before they all end up dead we end up with an action scene that is as much tense to watch as it is exciting to see with it being made painfully obvious that the makers of this film leaned heavily on the fact that Dwayne Johnson has done alot of action films and would therefor know how to craft a well done action scene with this being something that we do see come into play in this films third act, heck even the fact that we see Krypto do a move that was explained could actually kill him if he did it does show that he did grow as a character and it is something that dies make that action scene alot more fun to watch with the rest of the films action being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall out of this and Black Adam this one is easily the better of the two film but even that's not really saying all that much. As this is still a pretty bad film it's just that Black Adam is alot more worse of a film due to the fact that it did cause the DC Extended Universe to end whereas alot of this films problems could very easily have been fixed with a rewrite of the films script in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about al of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a gran old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girl and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
