The Inbetweeners 2 Film Review

The Inbetweeners are still a huge thing over here in the UK as alot of us grew up with there antics on the small screen and when the foursome went to the big screen for there first film alot of us not only showed up but loved the film. Therefore it did make sense that there would be a sequel film and lo and behold in 2014 that's exactly what we got and while this films isn't as good as the first films it is still a decent film and for now does serve as the official finale for these characters and so then join me as I review the film that sees Will , Jay , Simon and Neil head down under with the film in question being called simply just "The Inbetweeners 2" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when they here how well he is doing in Australia Will , Simon and Neil decide to join Jay down under and end up in his scheme to possibly win back the love of his life Jane. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. The films plot to be frank wasn't as good as the first films plot was as no teenager can relate in going quite literally halfway across the world as that's just not something that alot of teenagers do where as with the first film the premise was more relatable as you do still see teens going abroad for there first without there parents. This isn't to say that the films plot is bad persay as it's really no but it is something that really could have been alot more better as it doesn't really feel like a finale rather it just feels like the next episode of the show ut in saying this tho the first films plot wasn't that good either as outside of the premise of the boys going on holiday there really wasn't a plot to speak off where as here with this film there is an attempt to give the film more of a tighter plot by having Jay trying to track down and hopefully win back Jane from the first film and it's when the film does touch upon that that the films plot does start to be a little bit better as it does add some emotional weight to the film and whilst that isn't needed for an Inbetweeners film it was still something that did work mildly well in this film with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Simon Bird as Will McKenzie , James Buckley as Jay Cartwright and Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland. Also starring in this film is Joe Thomas as Simon Cooper , Emily Berrington as Katie Evans , Belinda Stewart-Wilson as Polly McKenzie , Tamla Kari as Lucy , Freddie Stroma as Ben Thornton-Wild , Lydia Rose Bewley as Jane , David Schaal as Terry Cartwright , Alex Macqueen as Kevin Sutherland , Martin Trenaman as Alan Cooper , Robin Weaver as Pamela Cooper , Greg Davies as Mr Gilbert , Adam Nagaitis as Pete , Oliver Johnstone as Kristian , Susan Wokoma as Della , Steve Brody as The Bristol Pub Landlord , Brad Kannegiesser as Jasper and David Field as Uncle Bryan.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. The fact that we manage to have acting in this film that's not that bad isn't something that's all that knew as alot of this films actors are not only reprising their roles from either the original show but also the first film as well but alot of them are just a bunch of really good actors in there own right with there respective performances really hitting that point home, altho there where the films acting does start to suffer is from the acting in alot of the newer actors as alot of them do come across as being wooden and this by no fault of there own as it's down to the fact that this films executive producers , writers and directors Damon Beesley and Iain Morris as the pair of them have never directed anything before directing this film and that kind of inexperience does show as they don't tell alot of the new actors just what kind of performance to give. With the best actor in this film being James Buckley as Jay Cartwright as while any one of the four main boys could very easily have taken that crown with James you do get the feeling of that he is trying to make this character evolve and that while he is putting on this front when infront of his friends when he's on his own its a different story and that is something that does come through in his final performance in this film with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Whilst nothing will be able to top the character that we got in the first film the characters in this film are just as good in there own right. While all of the characters from the show are as well written as they possibly could have been which is something that does make alot of sense as the makers of this film also wrote and created the show and they would therefor no how best to write those characters where the films characters do really stand out even when compared to just the first film is in it's new characters as while in the first film the new characters felt like characters from a movie and not an episode of the show. Here it's the other way around the as the films newer characters feel more like the type of characters that the makers of this film did on the show and not the kinds of characters thar you would want to see in a film this is something that does make sense as alot of the new characters are there to either be a one joke character and nothing more then that or to be the films "villain" and therefor we aren't really meant to like them and while that worked for a characters like James in the first film as he did feel like a truly evil person as did outright threaten to kill Jay whereas with Ben he is literally just a pompous rich kid who is travelling around the world as a way to make himself more smug which granted does make him a more real character but it also doesn't make him an interesting character with the only character who is somewhat interesting is Katie as she is so in love with Ben that she can't see his faults even when he displays them right in front of her with her feeling powerless to his charms something which she does say near the end of the film and yet that's not the only side of her character as we do get to see just how happy go lucky she is with her willing to do anything just to have a good time and have a laugh with people.

Out of Lucy and Jane who are the only two girlfriend characters from the first film to be brought back for this film. It's Jane that is actually written more true to how she was in the first film as Lucy went from being the kids and caring person in the first film to someone who is not only emotionally abusing Simon by destroying all of his things but also cheats on him both are done for literally no reason whatsoever as while it could be argued that how Simon treated her in the first film was the reason for this change in her character which is something that would be fair point to be make people seem to forget that that was the point of his arc in that film and by the end of the film he had even begun to treat Lucy nicely and heck the two of them even have a really nice in the first film by the beach. Yet all of that is something that does seem to forgotten in this film this wouldn't be a bad thing if they were going to have her turn a leaf as it where and start to treat Simon nicely much like how he did with her in the first film but she's barely in the film and the few times that she is in the film she is written so unlike how she was in the first film that she might as well have been a completely different character as that would make more sense then having her whole personality be changed for no good reason. However to be fair ho they do try to explain this in the directors commentary by explaining that the two of them hadn't really known each other before they decided to move in together which OK that's fair enough but if that was always going to be the case then why include her character in the film as you very easily could have said that she and Simon broke up prior to the start of this film and it still would have worked.

Whilst in the first film it was very much Jay that was the main character of that film as it was him that went through this big emotional change. Here in this film it was kind of hard to work just how of the main four boys was meant to be the main character as while Jay does have a big role in the main plot of the film it's Simon that goes through the big change with both Will and Neil not really being the main characters of either film which is something that does make sense as it is Will that is the narrator for both the films and the show and it would be hard to work out a story where Neil could believably become the main character. This is something that does both work and not work for the film it works in that it was nice seeing someone other then Jay get the limelight in an Inbetweeners movie as it would have been very easy for the makers of this film to just repeat what they did with him in the first film and do it all over again in this film , however tho it also doesn't work for the film as both of the characters don't get much time to get across just what it is that they want to do in the film due to the fact that this film does seem to having alot more joke driven scenes as opposed to having scenes that do make either character feel more like the character over the other when this is s film that very easily could have had all four main boys be the main character and it would have worked as all of them except for Neil have something to do in this film whereas Neil is just happy to be there which is perfect for his character but there could have been a scene where he does start to question all of the lies that Jay has told him in the past leading him to question alot of things which yes would seem comical but given the fact that Neil isn't the smartest tool in the shed you could get away with having something like that happen in he film. Yet for one reason or another the makers of this film instead only have Simon and Jay be the main characters of the film with them not really focusing on why we should care about them being the characters of the film in the first place.

Whilst there was more then likely a practical reason as to why alot of the girlfriends didn't come back for this film what doesn't make as much sense is the fact that they straight up tried to replace the really likeable Allison with Katie. To be fair Katie as a character isn't that bad as she does have alot of personality to her that does make her seem a like a possible likable person but at the same time she does come across as being a lite version of Allison as they to of them are very similar in character with the only difference being the fact that Katie apparently knew Will before he changed schools at the start of the series this isn't a bad idea to be fair it would have been a really funny idea if the film did something with it but they don't rather they just have Katie mention that Will was kind of a legend in her eyes in her first scene and that's it. This does feel like a waste of a good idea as the idea of Will this very socially awkward person running into someone from his old school life while he's on holiday with his best friends is something that does allow for there to be plenty of jokes as and yet the film does nothing with it being made obvious that the makers of this film were more then happy to let Katie be a clone of a character that they already did in the first film. Yet all this does is make you wonder why they didn't bring back all of the girlfriends as even tho the makers of this film wanted this film to be a reset after the first film that only works if you go all the way and that means getting rid of Lucy and Jane and not having them be a factor in the film and yet the very fact that both of those characters are in the film does kind of go against that message of intent as its clear that this film was never meant to serve as a reset and therefor it makes no sense as to why both Allison and Lisa weren't included in the film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty two minuets. This is kind of the bogstandard running time for these films with the first film having a very similar running time to it and yet out of the two two films it is this one that does need to be as long as it is as it is also serving as a reunion to the show and therefore we do have alot of scenes where it's just the characters from the show catching up with other characters from the show and to be fair to this film this is something that we do want to see as we do want to see as many characters from the main show come back in this film and the film wouldn't be able to give us all of that and still tell a good story in it's own right with this film even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place. However tho much like with the first film this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time to fully develop its plot which in all fairness given just how thin the premise of these films usually are in the first place is something that would have been hard to do but it is still something that could have been done to help make this films plot feel worthy of being in a movie and not just an extended episode of the show as there really is nothing to distinguish this films plot from that of an episode of the show and if this film did have moments in it that did make it feel more developed then this is something that really wouldn't be an issue. With the film not even taking the time to fully develop its characters which is something that is fine for the characters that were on the show as you could make the case that they got there character development on the show but in the first film Jay got some character development and yet here none of the boys Jay included don't get any with them all leaving the film in the exact same place that they started the film in but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film in all honesty really good. While the film isn't as gut bustingly funny as what the first film was there is still an attempt to give this film alot of jokes that do feel right at home with the show however tho this is also the problem as the motto with this film seems to have been "more jokes less story" as the film does throw so many jokes at you and sadly not even around half of them land where is in the first film nearly all of the jokes not only would landed but landed hard. With the best joke in the whole entire film being the joke that involved Will going down a water slide whilst being chased by something an that's all i'm going to say as not only is that joke the funniest joke in the whole film but it's also it's grossed joke and to be fair this is kind of in keeping with the style of the show as the show did have plenty of gross out jokes and all of them worked and it is something that does work well here not only for the visual element of it but also due to how all of the characters around Will at the time react to it as all of the characters do act rightfully horrified, the thing that does make this joke stand out all of the more is the fact that it helps to make Will be this all time legend as it got the water park shut down which only made Will go up all the more higher in Katies books and while the jokes in the first film have had a longer lasting relationship with pop culture this joke at the water slide was a really funny joke with the rest of the films jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall out of the two films the better one is easily the first film with that film even more like a true finale to the series then what this film does with this film instead feeling more like a reunion film then a straight forward finale and in this regard this film does work as it does give you all of the things that you want to see in an Inbetweeners film however it's lacking that extra something that made the first film and his one not work as much in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Now ten as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in his very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
