Michael Film Review

Legends come and go with the thing that makes them legends in the first place being the everlasting impact that they leave in their profession. With one such legend being Michael Jackson who's music is still being played on radios across the globe to this very day therefore it only made sense that there would be a biopic made about him and well that film has just been released and I thought that i'd talk about to it to you all and so then join me as I review the film that oddly leaves out one member of the Jackson family with the film in question being called simply just "Michael" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Michael Jackson decides to go solo for the first time he risks upsetting his strict father and the fans that made him in the first place but he just might change the world for the better with his music. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. While this film doesn't really have a plot outside of the films brief premise this is something that is to be expected at this point in time as alot of music biopics barring maybe the Bob Marley one don't have much there in the way of plots as they are just there to tell a story that we've already seen being played out infront of our very eyes to begin with and therefor the film doesn't need to have much in the way of a plot. Yet it is something that would helped the film be as good as it could have been as while the film does focus on a certain time in Michael's life there are more things that the film could have included to make it's plot feel all the more stronger and while having a weak plot in this case isn't a bad thing as we are still just basically seeing a story that we've already been told once before being told to us again it still would have helped the film if it did have more of a plot to it as that would help us the audience to form more of a connection to not only the films characters but also the plot of the film as well with the films plot also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson , Colman Domingo as Joseph Jackson and Nia Long as Katherine Scruse-Jackson. Also starring in this film is Miles Teller as John Branca , Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe , KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Bill Bray , Juliano Krue Valdi as Young Michael , Jamal R. Henderson as Jermaine Jackson , Tre Horton as Marlon Jackson , Jayden Harville as Young Jermaine , Jaylen Lyndon Hunter as Young Marlon , Rhyan Hill as Tito Jackson , Joseph David-Jones as Jackie Jackson , Judah Edwards as Young Tito , Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Young Jackie , Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson , Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones , Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy , Liv Symone as Gladys Knight , Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark , Deon Cole as Don King and Mike Myers as Walter Yetnikoff.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. One of the things that the film will be getting alot of praise for is it's performances not just of it's main actor altho he is a true delight in the role of his cousin but all of the films actors as they all do such a good job of portraying there respective characters as while Michael's brothers do start of fade into the background a bit by the time the film ends the actors playing his mother and father do truly standout with them all giving such wonderful performances that do capture the true spirit of there respective characters. With the best actor in the whole entire film being Jaafar Jackson as not only does he kind of look him something which is due to the fact that he is related to the man himself but due that familial connection he is able to truly capture the spirit of Michael Jackson as odds are he would have grown up with stories that no one would have heard about him and therefore he would have a much more better grasp on who Michael was not only as a character but as a person as well with that being something that does help to improve his performance as the character as it would have been very easy to just hire an actor who just gives you hits and nothing more with him but with Jaafar he can go that little bit deeper due to the fact that he is related to him. With the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is so bad as it gives none of this films actors anything to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Cinesite , Folks VFX , Industrial Light & Magic , Lola Visual Effects , Rising Sun Pictures and Rodeo FX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. While there isn't that many noticeable CGI effects in the film that is something that does work to this film advantage as this is the type of film where you aren't supposed to notice when there's a CGI effect being shown to us on screen. Yet with that bein said what little effects we do get in he film do for most part look really good with the film barring one effect is mainly using CGI to make it look like there's thousands of people watching Jaafar singing when there was alot less then that during film and to be fair that is a good way to use CGI as your adding to what was there on the day of filming and aren't really taking away anything from what was there at the time and while yes this is a film that really doesn't need any kind of CGI in it as you very easily could have had that one shot where the CGI is noticeable be done for real with a stuntman as that would have looked so much more better then what the finished effect does as while its not a bad effect by any means it is something that you can tell was understandably done inside of a computer. This is something that does clash with the rest of the films effects as the rest of the films effects are hard to find barring one shot near the end of the film as that's how good that alot of the films effects are as good effects are the ones that you never know are CGI effects or not.

For those of you that don't know this is the third Michael Jackson film after Moonwalker and This Is It but it is only the second one to have involvement directly from the Jackson family. As none of them wanted anything to do with This Is It this is something that could be seen as being a good thing and a bad thing it could be seen as a good thing as they are putting across the version of Michael that they feel is the most true to who he was as a person and that's great as biopics should be all about getting things as authentic to the person as is humanly possible and that is something that can really only happen when those that loved the person in question are directly involved. Yet this is where it becomes a bad thing as the family could be looking at Michael through rose tinted glasses and are therefor only choosing to see the good things that he did with this having the adverse effect of making the film appear to be more sanitized then what it really should have been due to the fact that Michael mist likely did keep secrets from his family we don't know if he did or not and neither would they but to be one hundred percent authentic to the person you have to feature the bad things that they may or may not have done and while This Is It didn't do that either that film had the excuse of it was following Michael during what we then knew to be his final days whereas with this film given how how far back that the film does go it would have made sense for them to have some more darker moments with him as that would make the more child like moments with him seem all the more real, just to be clear the film does stop just short of mentioning any allegations that were made about him which is perhaps the best thing that they could have done as that would have opened up a whole other can of worms.

Just to be clear there are some things that are left out of the film like for example the fact we don't get to see his skin changing color or any hint as to what it was that caused that to happen this is despite the fact that dermatologist Arnold Klein did make an observation as to what it was in 1983 which is when this film takes place. We also oddly enough don't get any scenes with sister Janet Jackson either this is despite the fact that she would have been born well before Michael's career truly took off as a member of The Jackson 5 with her character not being in the film for quite literally no reason whatso ever which is something that makes no sense at all as surely if your going to be making a movie featuring the Jackson family then surely you'd want to include all of them in the film. There is a chance that she was in an earlier draft of the script as this films script did get heavily re-written before filming began on the film but either way she is someone who should have been in the film even if she didn't make the final cut of the film. we do however get scenes with Michael applying what looks to be make up in the film to make his skin appear more whiter so that it can be like Peter Pan which in all fairness to the film might be there way of getting around the subject of his skin color which if so is an understandable way to get around it as that is something that if its handled wrong which in all fairness it very easily could have been it would have been a huge controversy for the film as then they would have risked making Jackson's family quite mad but it still doesn't make up for the fact that there is a member of the family not in the film which is something that would make sense if the two of them didn't get along but from what's online it does appear as if both Janet and Michael did get along really well with each other with the two of them even doing a song together.

While this film doesn't really show you that much of how the songs that we all know and love came to be. What the film does show you is just how controlling that his father Joseph was as there are times quite early on in the film where we see him beating Michael with his belt for daring to stand up to him much like we get scenes where Joseph refuses to let the boys go to bed on a school night until they've gone through this one performance until they've got it to what he thinks is perfect these things whilst they are small are things that do make him out to be a controlling figure who despite clearly loving his sons he also cared just as much about the money that they made the family. With it appearing as if that he payed extra close attention to Michael as we do get to see him undermine the more grown up Michael at every chance that he gets so much so that Michael does appear to be scared of him which is something that wouldn't be the case if this person wasn't just a more kinder person to his son and while yes of course this film is being told from Michaels point of view therefor who is to say if those things are real or not as lets be honest here none of us where there to personally witness them the fact that the makers of this film did portray this character as controlling as they did is something that does prove that they did do the research and that they did put in the time and the effort to go and do all of these interviews and maybe watch all of these old tapes as that's something that they never had to do and yet it's the fact they did go to that extra mile in the first place that does help to make this film and the portrayal of it's characters feel more closer to how they are in real life.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty eight minuets and twelve seconds. Which to be fair is a fairly solid running time for this film to have and while it is alot more shorter then the Elvis biopic that is more due to he fact that this film does cut alot of stuff and only focuses one certain time in his life with there of course being scenes set featuring his time in The Jackson 5 with the film itself even having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. However tho the thing that does let this films running time down is the fact that it doesn't use its running time all that wisely due to the fact that this film doesn't fully develop its plot which is something that it could be argued does make alot of sense as this film is telling just a brief history of this person's life and is only telling in up until a certain point and yet when the film is as long as it is then there really should have been time to giving the films plot or what little of it there is in the first place some development even if it's something like showing Michael making the songs that he would use on the Bad tour it's still betting then what we got in this film which is exactly nothing. The same thing is also true for the films character development which again is understandable as this is a biopic of a really known person afterall but even so there does still need to be some character development given to the films characters as all of Michael's brothers do fall into the background as there's nothing about there film characters that makes them stand out with really the only character in the film getting some character is for obvious reason Michael himself and that's it and that's not enough to fully justify the film being almost two hours long but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a drama that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this being one of the many aspects where the film does shine as the film does take the time to get you to like all of its characters even the ones that you know are meant to be controlling people which is something that does have the adverse effect of making this films drama feel more real as we've all had arguments with people who are still good people and we've still had fights people despite us being good people as that's what we do as people and as a family we fight and then we make up and that's exactly what alot of the drama is like alot of the time in this film. With the best bit of drama in the whole entire film being when Joseph hits a very young Michael with his belt as while that is coming from a place of love as he does want the best for his family and for his sons its how he goes about it that makes it dramatic as no kid should ever be hit with a belt as all that's going to is mentally scar the kid and that's exactly what happens infact one really could make the argument that a whole lot of what happens between those two characters in this film is due to that incident with the belt with that incident being something that really does effect Michael for alot of his life and this is something that the film does devote alot of time tow and rightfully so as it is a key part of Michaels solo career with the rest of this films drama being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall it's hard to say just who this film was made for as the due hard Michael Jackson fans won't like this film due to how much stuff the film does either cut out of skip over and those that aren't fans of his aren't going to be won over due to how sanitized the film does come across as being in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such tat really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very film from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Star Wars fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
