Back To The Future Part III Film Review
Back To The Future is one of those rare franchises where the makers of the films knew when to stop and call it quits. As even tho there was an animated sequel show and a video game sequel to the films there will never EVER be a remake or a sequel as along as both of it's co-creators are still with us with the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today being the final film in this truly wonderful trilogy of films and so then join me as I review the film that sees Doc do the one thing he's never done fall in love with the film in question being called simply just "Back To The Future Part III" enjoy.
The plot of this film is while he is still trapped in the year 1955 Marty finds out that the Doc from his time is trapped in the year 1855 with Marty having to get the help of the Doc from 1955 with Marty having just a few short days to save Doc from meeting a grizzly fate. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honestly I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This films plot is one that whilst it does kind of serve as a finale to the franchises as there was no more film sequels made after this one it really doesn't feel like it as the plot of the film is instead more focused on wrapping up plot lines from the second movie then it is anything else which given that these films were worked on back to back is something that does make sense but at the same time tho it would have been nice if we got to see more of what 1955 looked like the day after the dance as that would have served as a great way for the plot to sort of ease back into the film before the characters then go off on this madcap adventure. With the films plot not being as dark as the second films plot was with this being something that does work really well as when you think of Back To The Future plots you usually think of something that's more akin to that of the first film and not a plot that revolves around the murder of Marty's dad and that's exactly what this films plot gives us as it is more in line with what we got in the first film only now instead of Marty having to find a way back home it's now both Doc and Marty which is something that does make what is kind of played out plot feel new and fresh again. With the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Seamus McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr Emmett "Doc" Brown. Also starring in this film is Mary Steenburgen as Clara Clayton , Thomas F. Wilson as Buford 'Mad Dog' Tannen and Biff Tannen , Lea Thompson as Maggie McFly and Lorraine Baines McFly , James Tolkan as Marshal Strickland , Elisabeth Shue as Jennifer Parker , Marc McClure as Dave McFly , Wendie Jo Sperber as Linda McFly , Jeffrey Weissman as George McFly , Matt Clark as Chester and Flea as Needles.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honestly I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. What makes this films acting be as good as it is is not just due to the fact that we have a bunch of really good actors reprising there iconic roles but also the fact that they have a good director in Robert Zemeckis in helping them to give these really good performances in the first place as after all an actor is only as good as the director that there working with. Incase it wasn't made clear by the first film or even the second film all of this films characters are perfectly well cast so much so that it is hard to picture anyone else playing these roles as the actors in this film even the ones that are in minor roles are so good as these characters and while that would have been more then true for the films returning characters it's also doubly true for the films newer characters as well as they all do bring something to there roles that helps to make there characters feel unique to them. With the best actor in the whole entire film being quite hard to say as really any of this films actors could make that case and it would be totally justified but if push did indeed come to shove then i'd say that the best actor in this film is Michael J. Fox as not only does he of course return as Marty Mcfly but he also plays Sheamus Mcfly one of Marty's ancestors and more often then not he has to play them both in the same scene which just from a technical standout is amazing to see and yet you can't really tell in his performance that there's some kind of movie trickery going on with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honestly I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that this film odes have some good looking CGI in it is something is both shocking and yet at the same time not all that surprising as even tho this film does have a really good effects company doing all of the films effects this was still a film that was made in the late eighties and early nineties and therefor of course CGI wouldn't be where it is today due to the fact that the makers of this film jus wouldn't have had the technology that film makers today have and yet even with that going against them they still manage to pull of some really good looking effects. With there being some really good split screen effects which yes was something that they did do in Part II but there in that film they mostly had a steady camera whereas here in this film they do have shots where the camera is moving and those kinds of split screen shots are hard to pull off and heck they even have the characters that are played by the same actor touching each other which might seem like a small thing at first but it is something that does help to sell you on the effect at hand. Whilst the film does have some really good looking effects in it the film does have one kind of bad looking effect that being the effect of the time train taking off as it just looks a little bit to fake and granted this is not somethin that the makers of this film could help as they didn't have the technology that we have today but it is something that does stand out like a sore thumb.
One of the things that people might not notice in the Back To the Future films is that while Marty Mcfly is a main character in the films he is never the main characters of the plots as in films one and two it's his parents that are the main characters and in this film it's Doc. With the film taking fully advantage of that by not only giving us some of Doc's backstory by revealing that his family is German but also revealing that he was a science fiction lover as he loved the works of Jules Verne when he was boy these things whilst they are small are things that helped to make Doc the character that we all know and love today as they helped to make a man of science who is always doing these odd experiments as he's trying to leave his mark on science as a whole. With this film even giving him something that the other films didn't do that being a love interest and while Clara isn't the best character in this film as she doesn't get the chance to show us more of her personality outside of the fact that like Doc she to enjoyed the works of Jules Verne and heck it could be argued that the TV show did a better job with her character just due to the fact that we got to send more time with her in the show then we do in this film. However even so there's no denying the fact that she and Doc and made for each other as they both other something that the other craves be it the fact that Clara is more spontaneous and romantic then what Doc is as she quite literally boards a speeding train just to tell him that she loves him or in the case of Doc he is more smart and is more capable of doing things for Clara that she can't do for herself which is something that does make them a cute couple together.
Like many of you i've never been a fan of the fact that Part II gave Marty this unneeded of flaw of him acting out whenever someone calls him a coward. As it does feel like something that Marty wouldn't do as he was always the cool kid who could think on his feet to get himself out of any kind of situation and thankfully this film doesn't focus on that aspect of his character with the film making it kind of key part of the film and even then it's only something that's done twice in the whole film as we see how it gets him into trouble when he accepts a duel from Buford at the town dance and we see how it forces him to think when during that dual he puts on something to protect himself from getting shot and killed. This was a great way to resolve that terrible plot thread and having Buford be the one to trigger it both times was something that does make sense as if Marty didn't accept the duel then eventually he would have become someone like Buford only more modern something which again we did see in Part II when he's convinced to take part in an illegal work scheme. With the duel scene even being one of the films many action scenes all of which does take as full advantage of the fact that this is film is a western as they have alot of the westerns cliches in this film and they all work due to the fact that the film has given the chance to get to know these characters with this being something that does make the film action be as good as it was and while many people hate the idea of Marty acting nuts when someone calls him a coward one can't deny the fact that they pay off for that lame subplot in this film is something that is really good as it does show that by refusing to race Needles back in 1985 that Marty has somewhat grown as a character.
While this film does have alot of things going for it one of the things that it has going against is oddly enough Buford himself. This is not to say that he's a bad character or anything like that as that couldn't be further from the truth but when compared to Biff it's night and day as Biff is the more better character due to the fact that he does have charm and charisma with him charming you into making you think that what he's doing is the right thing whereas with Buford he's lacking any of that which fair enough might be the point of the character as he is meant to be someone that just doesn't care about the law however tho given the fact that there was a scene cut where he does actually kill Marshal Strickland it oddly makes him the more weaker character as we do get to see Biff do alot of the evil thigs that he straight up says that he's going to do whereas with Buford we don't get to see him do anything all that evil in the film. This doesn't make him a bad character as we do get told that he and his gang are going to rob a stage coach before coming back into town to have the duel with Marty however that's part of the problem as we are told these things but we are never shown them when it would have made the character be all the more threatening if we get to see how evil that he could be as this is meant to be one of Biff's most evil ancestors and yet he just comes across as being nothing more then a school bully. Which again could be the point of his character but it also doesn't make him a character that we the audience are afraid of rather it instead makes him a character that despite well acted and mostly well written is just there for the sake of there being a villain and that's it.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty eight minuets and seventeen seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for these films and to be fair to this film this film really does mean that amount of running time in order to tell it's story in a way that does justice plot with the film even having the right amount of plot there in the first place to cover that amount of running time as the film really doesn't take it's time to tell it's plot as alot of the films scenes even those at the very start of the film are all about advancing the films plot forwards or about advancing the characters forward an while it would have been nice to spend more time in the fifties given the first two films spend alot of there films there it does make sense that this film would get out of the fifties as soon as it did. However tho the film doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot as the film does spend alot of time in just setting up the elements of the plot rather the adding things to it that help to make the plot be all the more better and while this sis something that could also be argued is the case for all of the other films as well here it is something that does stand but a little bit more due to the fact that the film does have to stick in a romance subplot for Doc and Clara. With this even effecting the films character development as while it could well be argued that Doc and Marty don't really need character development due to them being in the other films and the fact that Marty does get some small amount of character in this film none of the films new characters get any kind of character development with them al ending the film in the exact same place where they started it but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho..
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the film having alot of really funny jokes in it all of which work because of the fact that they do feel very character driven this is even taking into account that the film does have all of the franchises running jokes with alot of them have new spins put on them like for example when Marty wakes up at the Mcfly farm instead of trying to work who Maggie is to him he just says "who are you" which granted doesn't change the fact that we are seeing the same joke that's been done in the previous two films but it is something that does make the punchline funny again as the makers of this film very easily could have kept the punchline the same and while it still would have been funny with Marty easily working out who Maggie is to him the fact that he genuinely doesn't know is something that makes that joke even funnier. With the best joke in the whole entire film being when Doc and Marty commandeer the train when the train drive asks them if this is a hold up Doc quite proudly says "no it's a science experiment" which is just such a Doc thing to say that it oddly works and the fact that Marty openly goes along with it is something that does make the joke just as funny even taking into account that both of them are wearing there bandanas over there faces is something that makes that joke even funnier with the rest of the films obvious and not being just as funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall while the franchise did technically continue on in both cartoon series form and in video game form this film does serve as the perfect ending for the Back To The Future films as it gives the character a nice happy ending whilst also tieing up alot of the loose ends as well as being a genuinely good film in it's own right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now the as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images, With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
