Wonder Woman 2017 Film Review

For one reason or another Hollywood has always found it difficult to make a good female led superhero movie even dating back to the eighties with the likes of Red Sonja and Supergirl making less of a profit then there make counterparts. Well in 2017 we not only got a female led superhero film that was actually good but one that was actually alot more better then then two possibly three DCEU film that came before it with it being that film that I want to talk to you all about today and so then join me as I review the film that sees an iconic character finally get there first live action solo movie with the film in question being called simply just "Wonder Woman" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a pilot called Steve Trevor crashes on her home island of Themiscyra Diana Prince is charged with brining back to his own world and stopping the go of war Ares from destroying the world. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. As while the plot of this film is pretty much a beat for beat the exact same plot as the 2009 direct to DVD animated Wonder Woman movie even down to them using the exact same villain here in this film it does still make sense that they would start of with this plot as they do have to set up Diana and tell us her origin story but at the same time tho it would have helped the film all the more if the film did tell an original story as opposed to copying what a then eight year old film did. As while people won't be comparing the two films or at the very least mainstream audiences won't be the films target audience that being comic book fans will be and in this regard this film does come out all the more better due to the fact that it does take the time to add things to the plot of this film that do make it feel more fleshed out like for example we get to see how the human world effects Diana in both a positive and negative way as she gets to see both the good and bad side of humanity both at the same time with this being something that does help to effect her choice to stay on being a hero with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman , Chris Pine as Steve Trevor and Danny Huston as Erich Ludendorff. Also starring in this film is Elena Anaya as Dr. Maru , Lucy Davis as Etta Candy , Saïd Taghmaoui as Sameer , Ewen Bremner as Charlie , Eugene Brave Rock as Chief , Lisa Loven Kongsli as Menalippe , Gladiator star Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta , The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Robin Wright as Antiope and Harry Potter star David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan / Ares.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the fact that this films acting being as good as it is is really something that's to be expected as alot of this films actors are a bunch of really good actors and while it is fun and hip to say that Gal Gadot can't act the fact is like any actor she still needs a good director to get a good performance out of her and that's exactly what this film gives us with Patty Jenkins as she does know how to get a good performance out of Gal Gadot and out of the rest of this films actors with this being something that does result in the film having alot of really good acting in it. With the best actor in this film being Gal Gadot herself as she does carry alot of this film on her back and she does so with grace with her and Chris Pine having some really good chemistry together and while it would have been very easy to say that someone like David Thewlis is the best actor in the film the fact does remain that he is horribly miscast in the role of Ares but not in the role of Sir Patrick Morgan as for Ares you want a Brock Lesner type someone who has alot of muscle and could back up everything that they say and with Sir Patrick you want the exact opposite of that. With the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actor have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will com out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Double Negative , Moving Picture Company , Pixomondo , Universal Production Partners , Weta FX , Platige Image , Vitality Visual Effects , Mist VFX Studio and VFX Studio By Atlywood. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the films CGI for the most part holding up really well almost ten years later as while there are a few bad looking effects that didn't look good then and don't look good now like for example Ares himself doesn't look all that good and neither do alot of the CGI doubles for the characters either. Yet when the film does do some really good looking effects like the destruction of the bell tower at the end of the "No Man's Land" scene as that effect does look really good and while yes it could have been alot more better it did honestly look like something that you would see in a CGI Godzilla film but the fact that this films effects do mostly look pretty bad with things like the obvious CGI tank or alot of the stuff on the airfield during the third act doesn't come across as being shocking as you do usually expect good work from all of the effects companies involved and while yes they might have done well with it just being the fact that the effects haven't aged all that well due to the passage of time that makes them look bad. All this does is make you wonder why the film didn't use more practical effects as this isn't an effects heavy film and therefor instead of having a CGI tank in that airfield action scene it could have been real with it only turning into CGI when Diana picks it up and throws as practical effects will always look better then things that are done inside of a computer

Like alot of you I also hated Ares in this film as it felt like such a waste of a good character just be clear this isn't to spread hate to David Thewlis as the character is well acted. He's not that well written or cast for that matter as you don't buy this skinny as anything British guy as the god of war as he looks like a gust of wind could beat him in a fight which is fine for Sir Patrick but is not fine for Ares as there you want someone who does look intimidating and who looks like he will beat you up if you so much as look at him the wrong way as that's who Ares is as a character he's a guy who not only enjoys fighting but enjoys making others fight other people. With this being something that the film gets wrong as this character wouldn't hide away in the shadows and watch humans destroy themselves he would be out in the open and admit that it was him and would then sit back and watch the chaos go on around him however to be fair tho having him hide in the shadows is something that does go well with this films theme of are humans truly evil and having the character be out in the open and admit that he's starting all of these wars would go against that. With another thing that doesn't quite work about the character is the fact that he's two powerful of a foe for Diana to be going up against as don't forget this is her first solo live action film and in those you don't typically want your heroes most well known and most physically strongest character going up against them as with Ares being the villain that would have been better served being in what would become Wonder Woman 1984 or a third Wonder Woman film as then Diana would have had the chance to grow and become this strong hero only now she has to go up against someone that is just as strong as her with someone like Cheetah being the perfect villain for this film as she's not that physically strong as a character but is still well known enough for mainstream audiences to know who she is.

Where this film succeeded where other female led super hero films has failed is that this film not only give Diana herself flaws flaws which she not only has to over come but also make her human. It's also because of the fact that this version of Diana isn't afraid to show emotion as we see her laughing at jokes we see her be happy , we see her get upset when Antiope dies in her arms and we see her get mad Steve when he stops her from killing Erich Ludendorff as she believes in her heart of hearts that he is secretly Ares and yet if she does kill him Steve knows that that will effect the armistice that governments of the world are trying to put together and due to that we see how much stopping Ares means to her. All of these are things that female led movies where for a shockingly long time as they all believed that inorder to make the female strong she has to be emotionless and picture perfect at everything that she does when all that does is give you a boring a character that can't grow as they have no where else to go but down and that's why we saw characters like Captain Marvel and Rey Skywalker crash and burn with audiences as they just weren't written in a way that was interesting. Yet if you look at Diana here we get a character who is interesting and who does have these flaws that she has to overcome and that does show emotion and because of that people especially little girls took her and fell in love with her like they did back in 1941 thankfully tho companies have slowly started to catch on to this and have very slowly started to remember how to make a good female character with films like Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps being very good examples of this.

It would always be a crime if when talking about this film no one brought up the still powerful no man's land scene. With that scene being THE true stand out scene of the whole entire film just due to what that scene represents as in alot of superhero movies we very rarely if ever see the hero actually save lifes and yet it's during that scene that we see Diana doing exactly that as she found out that alot of the villagers of this small village are being starved and that those that are able are being sent to work as slaves with the only thing to do being to drive the German forces out of the village and yet they can't because of the fact that there's opposing soldiers shooting at them so Diana takes the most direct route possible and by doing so she draws the fire of enemy soldiers which does allow for Steve and his men to flank them and start taking people out. With the thing that sets that scene apart from all of the other action scenes in this film is the fact that Diana isn't doing this because it's the easy thing to do she's doing it because it's the right thing to do and with her only having a shield to protect herself it does mean that she could get hit with a bullet at any time and yet she does it anyways despite the fact that she comes under this very heavy fire she still keeps on moving forward because it's the right thing to do with thins being something that does inspire the other soldiers who had all but given hope of recapturing the village and it give them the hope that they could take it back. It really is a wonder that super hero films hasn't had a scene like this as it does go along way to cementing Diana as hero as she doesn't use any of her powers in that scene she just uses her training and that's it and it's this type of scene that would go a long way into making other heroes seem all the more better due to how powerful that it could be when it's done right.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twenty one minuets and sixteen seconds. With this being a really solid running time for this film to gave as the film does have to cram all of the iconography from Wonder Woman's origin story and still tell a really good story in it's right and it can't do all of that in a shorter running time with this film also having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. Due to the fact that the film does gave alot of plot to cover in the first place and while it would be nice if this film did come in at around two hours to give this film a shorter running time would be a huge disservice to it's plot and to it's characters however tho this fil really doesn't use all that wisely due to the fact that the film doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot as the film doesn't really give Ares a plan outside of just wanting to cause chaos and that's it with the film not really having scenes that add to the plot of the film this is despite the fact that the films plot is one that is really well done but it's one that does need a few scenes that make the films plot and it's theme on if human are truly evil or not feel alot more well developed. The same thing tho cannot be said for the films characters as the film does take the time to fully develop all but maybe one or two of them with alot of the films characters feeling like fully fleshed out characters with the best example of this being Diana herself as she does have to learn what it is takes to truly be a hero and to accept humanity for what we are worts and all and yet the only maybe two characters that aren't that well developed are Ares who doesn't even have a plan in this film and Chief who is just there and adds nothing to the film on the whole but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The film really does have alot of really thought out action in it with the only thing that lets down all of the action in this very film being the fact that the film has a ton of pointless slow motion parts in all of it's action all which feel more like padding rather then showing of something cool that's happening on screen and yet the very few times that it does work it's still not that effective as the film has had so many slow motion scenes that we've become numb to it. With the best action scene in the whole entire being the third act fight between Wonder Woman and Ares as we do get to see Ares really test Diana and really put her through the winger as we see her noy only loose the one that she loves in Steve Trevor but because of the fact that she's seen human killing other human she's now lost her faith in humanity and is now basically unsure of herself with the only thing that stops her from killing Dr. Maru being something that Steve said to her earlier on in the scene which causes her to remember not only him but the good times that they've had together and all of the good that she's seen humans do. This is something that makes Diana standout from other superheroes as she is all about spreading love and kindness to each other therefor when she is put into a situation where she might lose that love and faith she has for humanity it is something that would rock her to her very core and seeing overcome that and how that gives her this new found strength is really exciting to see in the film with the films action scenes being just as good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst Supergirl and many others have shown Hollywood how not to do a female led superhero movie this film seems to be the only one that has shown them how to do one as this film is just so good and is easily the best film in the entire Dc Extended Universe because of it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and a such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally sued in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images tat I personally used in this very review from Blogger . Com , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
