Superman 2025 Film Review

Superman seems to be the only character that DC likes to use when there launching a new cinematic universe. Which is something that does make sense as he is there most popular character yet at the same time tho it does feel getting a new Superman solo film not that long after we got Man Of Steel but this is a film that was actually alot more better then the the rest of the DCEU was and well since I got this movie on Blu-Ray for Christmas you all just knew that I had to review the movie for you all ad so then join me as I review the film that actually does a good job of setting up it's own cinematic universe with the film in question being called simply just "Superman" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when he gets involved in a war between two countries Superman must face the consequences for his actions and has to deal with Lex Luthor when he steals Krypto and plans to crown himself king of one of the warring countries. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good as this films plot is very much comic book in nature as it's one that doesn't take it self to seriously but also it takes it self seriously enough for us the audience to buy into it and because of that this is plot that really does work and is alot more better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights this films plot is one that shouldn't have worked and should have been really bad but because of the fact that the people that were making this film knew full well that they were making a comic book movie they just embraced it and because of that this films plot does turn out to be alot more fun then what it really should have been however tho there is some downsides to this films plot like the fact that the plot is so wafer thin that it is hard to tell just what the main plot of the film is even meant to be alot of the time and the fact that there really isn't alot of focus on this films plot which is something that does make it feel more like an afterthought when if the film did put more attention and focus on to it's plot then it could have ended up being so much more better then what it already is in the first place as it had all of the potential there to be one of the best Superman film plots of all time with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Kal-El / Superman and Ultraman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Also starring in this film is Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific , Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho , Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern , Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl , Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen , Wendell Pierce as Perry White , Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard , Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant , Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe , Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent , Neva Howell as Martha Kent , Bradley Cooper as Jor-El , Angela Sarafyan , Lara Lor-Van , Alan Tudyk as the vice of Four / Gary , Michael Rooker as the voice of One , Pom Klementieff as the voice of Five , Grace Chan as the voice of Twelve , Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher , María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer , Stephen Blackehart as Sydney Happersen , Terence Rosemore as Otis Berg , Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. , House Of The Dragon star Milly Allcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl and Skins star Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances in this film and while Milly does only appear in the end to set up the upcoming Supergirl movie she does do a fairly decent job as the character given the very limited screen time that she has in this film as for the rest of this films actors they all do a really good job of portraying their characters in this film as while Frank Grillo is actually reprising his role from the Creature Commandoes animated series the rest of this films actors are all newcomers to the DCU and they all fit there characters with it being made clear as day all of this films characters are perfectly well cast as they all just get not only the tone and style of the film butt also there characters down perfectly something which does also come across in the films nearly hour long making of documentary where it's reveled that David Corenswet would frequently ask this films writer , producer and director James Gunn about his lines as he comes from a theater background and wanted to get his lines down perfectly with this level of dedication not only to his craft but also to his character being why he is the best the actor in this film as he does turn in a good performance as the character in this film and while he might not be as good as Christopher Reeve was in Superman 1978 David Corenswet is still really good in this film with the acting that's in this film really bein helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films actor have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Weta FX , the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic and Framestore. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty so good with the fact that thus films CGI being so good is something that's not really all that surprising given just who is working on this film from an effects point of view as all three effects companies turn in nothing but good work and the same thing is true here as all of this films effects look as good as they could have done with it being made clear as day that the effects teams working on this film had a pretty big effects budget as while everyone talked about the flying scenes and the monsters in the lead up to this film there was effect that no one talked about as no one knew that he was a effect that being none other then Krypto himself as while they did have a dog actor play him it was done pretty much as motion capture with the rest of the character being built entirely inside of a computer and it looks o good as you can't tell alot of the time that he was a computer effect as he does look like that he was there on the day filming and while yes there some dodgy looking effects like some of the flying scenes look like they were thrown together at the last minute but where it counts this films effects do look pretty good as the aliens whilst there not life like they do look like they belong in a comic book movie and while the fights have alot of CGI in them they work really well and add to those scenes rather then take away from them.

Look i'm a dog person I love dogs and I love everything about them and yet even I think that the movie relied a bit to much on Krypto. As while yes he is a really cute dog no one will ever deny that but it kept on getting to the point where it felt like that Krypto was the main character of the film and not Superman which would be fine if the movie was called Krypto but it's not it's called Superman and heck the only reason why Superman is going after Lex in the first place is because of the fact that Lex kidnapped Krypto which fair enough is a bad thing for him to do but at the same time the film could have given another reason for Superman to go looking for him outside of the fact that he's a dog like maybe Superman could have said to Lois that he's looking for him because of the fact that he's the last animal from Krypton and therefor like him is the last of his kind which would have been a completely understandable reason for Superman to go looking for him but they don't do that and while yes Krypto does get alot of the films more humorous scenes those scenes shouldn't come at the expense of setting up this world as don't forget this is an entirely new DC Cinematic Universe and therefor this new world still does need to be set up and while having Krypto just behaving like a dog doesn't get in the way of that he does take away screen time that could have been used in setting up this new world now this isn't to say that Krypto is badly used because he's not but he's someone that is best used in small doses where as in this film it does feel like they went a tad bit to far in using him so much so that he might as well have been the main character of this film.

Unlike Man Of Steel which seemed to like any real color and that had the characters be written to be anything but themselves. Here in this film you can see right from the first frame that there's going to be alot of color all throughout the film which is something that does go an awful long way in making this film feel alot more like a comic book movie then Man Of Steel did and when you add in the fact that this film could be more campy alot of the time as well which again is something that you'd see in a comic book it is something that does make this film feel like a true comic book movie. With one of the things that alot of people really hated about Man Of Steel being the fact that none of the characters especially Clark Kent himself felt like they were written like themselves as Clark Ken is someone who is the eternal optimist as he always looks on the bright side of things and is always trying to see the best in people and wants to bring out the best in people and that is who this version of Superman is as well yes it's not realistic but guess what he's an alien therefor it doesn't need to be realistic it just needs to be who he is as a person and seeing him have that hope and inspire it in others that's who Superman should always be with it being the very thing that the Richard Donner films and the Bryan Singer film knew to do and yet for one reason or another it was lost in Man Of Steel which instead gave us a Superman that was more true to who Batman is as a character then to who Superman is as a character and yet here because of the fact that the makers of this film were fans of the character be it from the comics or the Christopher Reeve movies we get a Superman that feels like himself with the same thing even being true for alot of the characters as well.

Lex in this film is a character that is hard to judge as on the one hand he does seem rather calm and collected alot of the time but on the other hand he does have this really good plan that whilst it's not the exact same plan as the one Gene Hackman had in Superman 1978 does feel very reminiscent of that plan. As his plan in this film is to start a war between countries and then as he has an agreement with the president of one of the warring countries he then gets to name himself as king over half of the other country which is a pretty good plan but it does also very similar to the plan he had in the 1978 movie as well even down to him working with the same two side kicks from that movie and while it's not a bad plan by any means as it does show us both how smart Lex is as a character it also shows us just how demented he is as well as he's willing to let innocent people die just so he can rule one half of a country and when things start going sideways and his jealousy of Superman gets the better of him he's even willing to let the whole world burn and die just so he can finally beat Superman which to be fair to this film was a great thing to include as it is something that does feel true to his character as he is the type of character that would do anything just to become a king even if it's just a king of a small country heck just look at how far he was willing to go just to make more money in the 1978 film as for him being jealous that is something that does feel out of character for him as Lex would never be jealous of Superman rather he'd go insane if something happened to Superman that he himself didn't cause as he's that mentally unstable but the fact that he does use his brains quite alot in this film is something that does make the whole brain vs brawn set up more interesting to watch.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and nine minuets and twenty two seconds. With this film not covering the origin story which would have been pointless to do as Superman's origin is really well known it does make sense that this film be as along as it is with the film having the right of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place and yet this film is one that really doesn't use its running time all that wisely as this film really doesn't take the time that it really should have done to fully develop it's plot with the film instead being more focused on giving us scenes with Krypto and showing us why we should like him instead of giving us scenes that make the films plot feel alot more thought out with this being something that does also effect the films character development as well as none of the films characters get any kind of character development which is something that could also be due to the fact that this is the first film in a new cinematic and therefor you could very well make the argument that the characters will get there development over the course of several films which is something that would be fair enough but at the same time tho the makers of this film should have been more focused on making this film as could as it be and not spend time in setting up other characters that aren't relevant to the plot of this film as all that does it take away screen time that could have been spent in giving the film the much needed character and plot development that it really did need but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I inn all honesty personally thought  felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films action being alot of fun to watch as we get to see some really fun and creative scenes something which is typical of a James Gunn action film with this film even having the typical action scene which is done in one long take and has some quirky music playing over it which is still fun to see but at the same time it is something that you do expect from this director at this point in time with this film even giving us something that alot of superhero films seem to be afraid to show us that being the superhero actually saving people this being something that do get to see alot of the time in this film and it's something that does make Superman out to be a really good superhero with the best action scene in the whole entire film being he films third act as we not only get to see Superman taking on both Ultraman and The Engineer in a fight that takes us all over Metropolis and even into space but we also get to see Superman match wits with Lex and Guy , Hawkgirl and Metamorpho take on entire army as well all of which does add up to this one action being really well done as it will always be cool seeing a bunch of heroes using their superpowers no matter what film or TV show it's in with the film even having alot of other good action scenes in it as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst Superman was a good debut film for the DCU Supergirl will be this new universes biggest test as it will be the first entry not to be written and directed by James Gunn with this film being one that does prove that if you do Superman right the you end up with a really good movie because of it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Blogger , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
