Rambo Film Review
There are quite alot of truly iconic film characters out there be they Darth Vader , John McClane or even Marty Mcfly to name but a few. However there is one character that alot of people seem to forget out which is mostly due to the fact that even tho his first film was in the early eighties he has only to date appeared in five feature films and well it's his fourth film that I wanted to to talk to you all about today and so then join me as I review the film saw Sylvester Stallone reprise his other iconic role with the film in question being called simply just "Rambo" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a group of Christian missionaries go missing in Burma it's up to John Rambo and a group of mercenaries to find them before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot not really being the kind of plot that you'd think of when you think of the character John Rambo but this is something that could work well enough to this films advantage as it does mean that this films plot can take you by surprise but at the same time tho this is a plot that really doesn't feel like it suits being the plot of a film as it's a plot that could very well work better as the plot of a TV show with this films plot not really being the strongest plot there is as it does feel like that nothing happens for a large chunk of the films running time with this being due to the fact that this film really does just pick up and drop it's plot so often that it does make it hard to work out just what the plot of this film is meant to be in the first place something which would have been helped by the fact if the film did focus a little bit more on it's plot but to be fair tho the idea for this film is one that's really good and is more then strong enough to support an entire film it just needed to be handled alot more better is all with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well n my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is this films co-writer and director Sylvester Stallone as John J. Rambo and Julie Benz as Sarah Miller. Also starring in this film is Paul Schulze as Dr. Michael Burnett , Matthew Marsden as School Boy , Graham McTavish as Lewis , Tim Kang as En-Joo , Rey Gallegos as Diaz , Jake La Botz as Reese , Maung Maung Khin as Major Pa Tee Tint , Supakorn Kitsuwon as Myint , Aung Aay Noi as Lieutenant Aye , Sornram Patchimtasanakarn as Tha and Ken Howard as Father Arthur Marsh.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the film actually getting alot of praise for it's acting and rightfully so as it is clear as day that Stallone does know how to get a good performance out of his all of his actors a skill that he has proven time and time again in all of the films that he's directed and he does it again here with all of this films turning some really solid performances as it is made perfectly clear that all off this films actors are really well cast in this film almost to the point where it is hard to picture anyone else playing there actors as they all add something that's unique to them into there characters and into there performances with the best actor in the film being none other that Sylvester Stallone himself as he has been playing this characters since the first film and therefor really does know how to best to perform this character and what kind of performance would best suit this character something which does come in handy with this film due to the fact that he's also the films director and while alot of the films other actors are still really good there's just that extra special something about seeing Stallone as this character that just feels rights in this film with the acting that's in this film also being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
To be frank this films characters aren't the best written characters out there which is something that you do expect from an action franchise. While that might be something that would work well in an eighties action film as there you do kind of expect the characters to be pretty weakly done that's not something that you want in a more modern film as while we don't want the characters to be that well rounded in this type of action film we do still expect them to be fairly well done and yet here they do come across as the kind of characters that you'd expect to see in the first draft of a film script as there not that well thought out and none of them have anything memorable about them which does mean that all o the films new characters do just blend into the background with the only character who stands out being none other then Rambo himself and even then that's more due to the fact that he's the franchises main character and that's really it with the films character problem being something that very easily could have been fixed in the films script as on paper all of the films new characters could have worked as the idea of having these christian characters team up with this bunch of mercenaries is a solid enough idea and there are enough solid characters in this film to make them work that it really wouldn't change much to make the characters work like or example the character of Sarah who is someone that actually shows respect towards John and what he's been through and yet the film doesn't show us why she has this respect for him and that is something that could have been added to her character like maybe she has a family member who fought in the army yes it's a small thing but it's something that would have made her character all the more interesting.
Much like alot of action movie sequels this film forgot what made the first film stand out in the first place. As in the first film Rambo was someone who was suffering from PTSD due to being in the Vietnam War and that is something that does make us question what we are seeing in that film was actually really or was it all in his head in the first place and therefor when he does snap and he does start attacking the town we do feel sorry because of the fact that he doesn't know any better and yet over the course of the movies Rambo pretty much became Superman and the PTSD aspect of his character is by the time this film starts pretty much removed from his character entirely when it is something that should have been brought back due to the fact that over the course of the other two films he did take on several armies alot of the time on his own so he would still have psychological scars there and yet the film doesn't play into that aspect of his character at all when that is something that is so entwined with his character to begin with that to remove them would be doing a complete disservice to his character and yet the film does still try to keep the spirit ad tone of that first film by having the film be alot more smaller in scale and be alot more contained then what the previous film was which is something that does show you that the makers of this film do know what it is that makes that John Rambo tick but because of the fact that they didn't want to or just straight couldn't be bothered to include key aspects of the John Rambo character something which even Rambo: Last Blood didn't do as well then it does make this film feel like a more really watered down and oddly more violent and gory version of that first film.
Look to be fair this film isn't that bad as there is a clear love and passion that went into making this film. Like for example the fact that Rambo and Sarah do kind of have this father and daughter relationship which is sweet and the fact that it is her that convinces him to take her and her friends to this dangerous place for what is basically peace talks does show that the two of them do have a strong bond together something which is made even more stronger when you take into account that not only is she the only one that's nice to him during the whole film but when she is kidnapped it's Rambo that goes into to save her while the mercenaries are with her friends but just because the film does have a few good elements to it doesn't make the film on the whole really good as while the film did get alot of praise for it's direction which is something that it does earn it also fails to be a memorable film say what you will about the Fast & Furious movies but you at least remember them and you remember the characters in those movies granted it might not be for the best of reasons but you still remember them here tho you don't remember anything that happens five minuets after finishing it as the film is more more focused on being this over the top and gory action film that it forgets to be memorable as there is nothing all that memorable about this film due to the fact that it does feel like a very by the book eighties action film which would have been fine if the film was made in the eighties except it wasn't as this film was made in 2007 therefor there should have been alot more effort put into making this film be all the more memorable.
What is weird is that even tho this film is set in Burma that's also one of the places where the film is actually banned. With being due to the fact that it doesn't put the whole of Burma in the best of lights it doesn't show them in the worst light either but it also doesn't make them out to be angels and yet despite this there are still bootleg copies of the film floating around in the country which is a really good sign as this is a film that should be shown there as it is nothing more then just that a film and therefor should have the rights that alot of films that get released over there do have there is a chance that the film could have had it's ban lifted in the years since this film first came out in which case great as this is a film is still a fun watch but at the same time tho this is a still a film where all of the main villains are depicted as being from Burma whereas alot of the heroes in the film are meant to be from America which is kind of hard to argue against as the makers of this film very easily could have had a local resident be friends with Rambo and help him out during the film but they don't do that with there being no in story reasoning behind it with this being something that could have gone a long way into getting the film shown there and it's also something that would have shown that Rambo who has meant to have lived in this country for years would have had some friends which is something that would have happened anyway which would have made it very true to life and yet for one reason or another the makers of this film wanted to make sure that the only real friends that Rambo has are all American which is something that makes no sense as he only knows both groups for about five minuets.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty nine minuets and sixteen seconds. Which is a perfectly solid amount of running time for this film and with this film being the directors cut of the film it does make sense this film would be this long with the film even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but even so this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely in the first place as the film doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot something which it very well could have done just by being an extra ten minuets longer which given that this review is being based of the directors cut is something that it actually could have done as this would have allowed the film to have scenes in it that would have developed the films plot and yet because of the fact that the makers of this film were more focused on giving us gory action scenes it does mean that the film can't have any plot development with this even effecting the films character development as the film really doesn't take the time to fully develop any of it's characters either with them all being these not even one dimensional characters as there's really nothing to this films characters and while you can excuse of him not having any character development as he would have gotten that during the previous three films it's not something that's really an excuse for the films new characters who get nothing interms of character development and are left as these blank slates which makes them all the more boring as characters which is something that really should have been fixed in this cut of the film as they could have had all the time in the world to make these changes but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk abut the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With much like the films acting and directing being one of the things that the film did get alot of praise for when it first came out and to be fair it's not that hard to see why as this films action is really fun to see with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film put alot more effort into giving us alot of really fun action scenes then they did into giving us some well thought out characters with the best action scene in the whole film also being the films goriest action scene as the best action scene in the whole film is the films third act as we get to see Rambo and the mercenaries bombard the place where Sarah and her friends are being held captive and gun down everyone that moves but it doesn't stop there as it also lasts all the way back to Rambo's boat as well with John and Sarah being cut off from the rest of the crew the action then evolves into a case where what fixes an issue for one group causes a problem for another which is something that does an add an extra layer of drama to the whole thing with the only thing that lets the action down being the fact that this films action is really gory but in saying this tho this film does have alot of really fun action scenes in it which is something that dies make this film worth watching as all of the films action scenes are that well done in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is quite easily better then what Rambo: Last Blood is as this film does at the very least try to be a good film where as that film was just a forgettable mess of a film that is best left forgotten with this film being one that does have alot more things going for it then working against it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad thigs that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
