Bumblebee Film Review
Before Transformers One proved that these Transformers films can be good if there done right there was another film that did exactly that. With that very film being the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today as it's one that's seemed to have been forgotten about by not only the producers of these films but by movie going audiences as well despite the fact that the film i the best reviewed live action Transformers film out there and so then join me as I review the film that proved that you don't need the entire Transformers cast of characters to make a good Transformers film with the film in question being called simply just "Bumblebee" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when he is hurt in a battle of Earth a planet he has to protect Bumblebee has to fight of two disceptacon robots and the human army all the while befriending a new human ally. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being that's oddly fille with heart something which you don't usually expect to see in a Transformers film let alone a live action Transformers film and it is something that does oddly work with this films plot as this is plot that does allow for moments of heart to come into play and while this films plot isn't necessarily the strongest plot out there as the films plot not only takes a good while to get going but when it does get going the film does pick up and drop it's plot several times not so much that you forget what the main plot of the film is even meant to be in the first place but it's done enough times that you do start to notice it happening but to be fair to this film tho that is something that could also be an issue with the other live action Transformers films as well and it isn't something that's unique to this film and while the films plot is easily the better of the live action plots it's also that doesn't oddly enough feel like a Transformers film as the films plot feels like it belongs more in an eighties teen comedy then it does a modern day action film with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie Watson , John Cena as Jack Burns and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Guillermo "Memo" Gutierrez. Also starring in this film is John Ortiz as Dr. Powell , Jason Drucker as Otis Watson , Pamela Adlon as Sally Watson , Stephen Schneider as Ron , Dylan O'Brien as Bumblebee / B-127 , Grey Griffin as Arcee , Steve Blum as Wheeljack , Andrew Morgado as Cliffjumper , Kirk Baily as Brawn , Dennis Singletary as Ratchet , Angela Bassett as Shatter , Justin Theroux as Dropkick , David Sobolov as Blitzwing , Jon Bailey as Shockwave and Soundwave and Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good, As you can tell right away that all of this films actors be they on camera actors or voicing one of the films robots are having a good time in playing there characters with them all being a bunch of really good actors in their own right and in the case of Peter Cullen has also been voicing their character since the eighties with the films human actors being shocking just as good as the films robot actors with this being something that isn't always the case with these films and yet here in this film it's exactly that with this being because of the fact that this films director Travis Knight really does know how to get a good performance out of his actors a skill that he does once again show us in this film and to great affect as well with the films best actor being none other then Hailee Steinfeld as while Peter Cullen is indeed great in this film you expect him to be great because of how long he's been playing Optimus for but with Hailee you don't expect that as she hasn't played this character before now and yet she feels perfectly cast and right at home with the character so much so that it's hard to picture anyone else playing Charlie as that's how good that she is in the role with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Rodeo FX , Scanline VFX , Base FX , Virtuos , Cantina Creative and BOT VFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this not really being something that's all that surprising give just who it is that's doing the VFX for this film as the effects companies that worked on this film mostly turn in some really good looking effects with the same thing also being true for this film as well as while something like Avatar: The Way Of Water does rightfully get alot of praise for creating realistic looking water effects this film creates realistic looking sand effects as when Bumblebee is on the beach in the middle of the film you see the footprints that he's leaving with each passing footstep and you see the sand raise up with each step that he takes as well which was a nice little touch and one that the makers of this film really didn't have to include with that effect feeling like the films effects teams where just showing off what it is that they can do with Bumblebee himself looking really good in this film with he more realistic approach to his design really working well with the more realistic tone that the makers of this film are gong for and while alot of what makes this version of Bumblebee look so good is down to the fact that effects have improved greatly since 2007 alot of it has to go to the fact that the character is integrated better in the live action scenes.
Whilst not alot of people will know this it is something that's worth bringing up as while this film didn't receive a direct sequel despite it being both a box office hit and hit with the fanbase. Ideas a sequel as well as the sequels script was merged with another script which eventually became Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts whilst it is hard to tell just what ideas from that original sequel script made it into that film it is weird that they never made a direct sequel to this film as there are quite literally decades between the setting of this film and the setting of the 2007 Transformers film during which any story with Bumblebee could have taken place as as far as the audience know Bumblebee was on this planet for a long time therefor it does make sense that he would get into more adventures not all of them have to include Optimus as that would mess up with the timeline a little bit but he very easily could have gone on more smaller scale missions that would still see the Earth put in danger but wouldn't always see him get alot of attention from the army either and yet by just straight not giving this film a sequel it makes you wonder just what it was that Hasbro was thinking as this era of the Transformers timeline is one that hasn't been explored this is despite the fact that it is rich with story potential and heck they even could have had cameos from younger versions of characters from the present day timeline as well which is something that would have been fun to see if they were dine right but for whatever reason the makers of these films like to give the bad Transformers movies sequels and the good ones don't get anything at all.
While the human characters in this film are easily alot more better then the human characters in the other live action Transformers movies. There still done pretty badly for the most part as alot of them like for example Sally and Jack are very one note characters who don't really learn anything form their experience in this film with neither of them not really having much in the way of a personality which for Sally is fine as she's basically a side character in this film but Jack is meant to be the main human villain of the film and yet he's treated more like an afterthought and not as being a very credible threat as the character doesn't really do all that much outside of bark orders at people and sometimes make pretty solid jokes and that's it with the same thing also bein true for the character of Guillermo "Memo" Gutierrez as he's basically just there to be a pretty badly done love interest for Charlie with him not really adding all that much to the films plot either with the films best human character of course being Charlie herself who is such a breathe of fresh air when compared to Sam or any of the other human leading characters as the the makers of this film actually give you a reason to care for her character as while she does love her family she's also struggling to come to terms with both the fact that her dad died and the fact that her mother has got a new fiancé and while she's not the best human character in film out there she does get alot of the films more emotional moments which help us the audience to get to like her as a character as on paper she could have been a really unlikable character and yet due to the fact that she does have a cry when playing her dads favorite song and the fact that she does understandably blow up at her mother when her mother thinks that Charlie is just being selfish does help to make her be this more likable character.
These films have never had the strongest of villains and that is something that does continue with this film. As both Shatter and Dropkick just aren't that interesting as characters with them even acting out of character as they are decepticons that willingly team up with a bunch of humans yes it's to use them for there own ends and they do betray them the second that they've gotten what they wanted from them but a Decepticon would never ever team up a with a human being let alone the army as they would rather do it all themselves then have t team up with people that in there eyes are the enemy with both Shatter and Dropkick feeling more like the villains that you'd meet on the first level of a video game and not the big bad that the film wants them to be which is something that does make sense as the big bad of this franchise is always meant to be Megatron but given that he's not in the picture right now there should have been more of an effort to make them seem like real threats to Bumblebee as he takes them down quite easily at the end of the film with the dup not really having much of a plan outside of locate and destroy Bumblebee and that's really it and that's fine for a few scenes but there whole film plan is basically just that which is just not that good enough of a plan for these characters to have as while granted there is only really two of them for alot of the film and therefor they really can't do all that much in the first place they still could have come up with something that would have helped them to locate Megatron as he is meant to be somewhere on Earth at this point in the timeline and it is something that would have shown that these characters are capable of doing some real damage as that's a plan that would naturally put them on a collision course with Bumblebee himself.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty three minuets and fifty three seconds. Which to be fair to this film is a perfectly solid running time for this film as while the other live action Transformers films are usually around two hours in length this film proves that you can tell a Transformers story in less time then that something which Transformers One would also prove as well with this film having the perfect amount of plot to cover that amount of running time in the first place with the film even using it's running time as wisely as it could have done as well as the film does fully develop it's plot as well as it could have as this is something that's not really needed to make a Transformers film work in the first place and yet here the film does take the time to fully develop as much of it's plot as it really needed to with this being something that helps to make the film alot more better then what it really had any right to be and due to the fact that the film does have some of these more emotional moments in it as well it does mean that the film does fully develop it's characters as well as it could have done as well as even the worst of this films human characters feel as fleshed out as they were ever going to be when compared to characters like Charlie for example with even Bumblebee himself getting some character development as he has to go from someone who is shy and not really willing to fight anymore due to the serious damage that was done to him near the start of the film to someone who is willing to stand up and fight for what he really loves and be a true hero but I really will admit that tyis film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With it being made clear that the makers of this film did put as much thought and effort into the films action scenes as they did into getting you to care for this films characters with this films action scenes really only being as good as they are because of the fact that the film lets you care for it's characters and therefor you want to see them make it out of this films action scenes alive and well with the best action action scene in the whole film oddly enough not being the films third act as it's instead the films opening scene as it gives us everything that we actually want to see in a Transformers film as we get to see nothing but Autobots beating up other robots in really creative and fun ways and while the films third act is a fun action scene to watch it focuses a bit to much on the human side of things then it does on Bumblebee and his mission which would be fine if Bumblebee was a side character but he's not he's quite literally the films title character and yet he doesn't really get to do all that much in the films third act where as in the opening scene we see him taking down alot of Decepticons with Optimus Prime by his side and that's the kind of thing that we want to see in a Transformers film with the rests of this films action being really good and really fun to watch as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall while people do remember Transformers One for being a good Transformers prequel it's important to note that this film beat that film to punch and without this film being as good as it is then we might not have gotten that film either as that's just how good that this film really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
