Avatar: Fire And Ash Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review
It seems to be that Avatar sequels are like buses you wait ages for one ad then two come along at near enough the exact same time. As while we had to wait literal decades for The Way Of Water to come out due to the fact that this film and possibly Avatar 4 were shot at the same time as that film it does mean that the wait for this film was a lot less as Fire And Ash has finally come out and you all just knew that I was going to be checking this film out the very first chance that I got and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that is going to make a lot of money at the box office with the film in question being called simply just "Avatar: Fire And Ash" enjoy.
The plot of this film is Jake and his family find themselves in for the fight of their lives when the RDA start to attack them again at the same time that they find themselves being attacked by a fire tribe of Na'vi. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being one that does more then match up to the high standards of the second films plot in some respects but also feels like more of the same as well as while this films plot does indeed up the stakes alot for Jake and his family it also feels like that it's repeat alot of the time and is just covering the same ground that the second movie already covered yet with this film effectively being he end of this trilogy of Avatar films there is also a sense of finality to the films plot as everything does feel bigger and the threats are more extreme then what they were in the first film which is great but this film is also lacking the heart and the beauty that both the second and first films had in droves but to be fair to this film tho it's plot is one that is really well handled and is one that does feel fresh and new alot of the time with the films plot even being unpredictable as your not going to know where this films plot is going as it does keep you guessing alot of the time with that being something that does serve to keep you hooked and yet is also the films biggest weakness as at times it does feel like that the film has no plot to speak off due to the fact that the film does indeed keep on changing what it's plot is meant to be alot of the time with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Sam Worthington as Jake Sully , Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri and Sigourney Weaver as Kiri. Also starring in this film is Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch , Oona Chaplin as Varang , Kate Winslet as Ronal , Cliff Curtis as Tonowari , Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman , CCH Pounder as Mo'at , Edie Falco as General Frances Ardmore , Brendan Cowell as Captain Mick Scoresby , Jemaine Clement as Dr. Ian Garvin , Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge , Britain Dalton as Lo'ak , Jack Champion as Miles "Spider" Socorro , Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Tuktirey , Bailey Bass as Tsireya , Filip Geljo as Ao'nung , Duane Evans Jr. as Rotxo , Matt Gerald as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet , Dileep Rao as Dr. Max Patel and David Thewlis as Peylak.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of the actors that you expect to give us a good performance in this film really giving us exactly that with this being something that does make alot of sense as not only are alot of this films actors reprising their roles from the previous films but even those that aren't and only make there debut in this film they still spent a long time in playing these characters due to the fact that this fil and the previous Avatar film was in production for years and while of course the actors that have been in this franchise since the very beginning are really good in this film as well that doesn't mean that the films newer actors are bad as there really not as alot of them do hold their own when it comes to acting with the films more established stars with the best actor in this film being Sigourney Weaver as Kiri as she really does prove why she really is perfect for this character as even tho she's in her sixties and is playing a character that isn't even in her twenties she still does bring an earnestness to the character that really helps this character feel all the more real then what she already is in the first place with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Legacy Effects and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Wētā FX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the fat that this films CGI being so good is not really all that surprising as the previous film was more well known for it's drop dead gorgeous CGI with this film not only matching the already incredibly high bar set by the previous film but also surpassing it as alot of this films fire effects look just as good as the previous films water effects did which was really impressive as both fire and water are two of the things that are hard to get right in the world of VFX due to the fact that they both behave differently each time and yet here they both look good with the fact that this film has some drop dead gorgeous VFX being one of the many things that even those that hate this franchise won't be able to hate on as even tho alot of this film does look live action there's not a single frame of live action footage in this film with it all being done inside of a computer and yet even down to how the Na'vi look you wouldn't be able to tell that as they look so photo real with there not being a single bad looking VFX shot in this film as that's just how good that this films CGI really is in this film with the film giving all the Na'vi tribes that we meet in this film some really cool looking designs as while we know the designs for the water tribes the sully family thanks to the previous films they even make the fire tribe that we meet in this film look really cool with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film really did give alot of thought and effort into creating something truly magical with there VFX for not only the previous film but for this film as well.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the previous film was nothing but set up for this film then this film is nothing more then paying off alot of the stuff that was set up. As we get to see the plotlines for both Jake and Neytiri get payed off in ways that do feel satisfactory as Jakes learns to fully except Lo'ak for who he is and Neytiri learns to start to trust Spider even tho he's a human which is something that doesn't quite make sense as while yes she has met alot of humans who have heart her she's also met humans that care for her and heck she's even married to one something which Jake himself points out in this film but either way it was nice to see there arcs from the previous film get resolved in this film with the only plot line that doesn't get resolved being the fact that we don't get to find out who it was that got Grace's avatar pregnant with Kiri and why she has this special bond with this worlds god as while they do hint that she has this connection with this worlds god is because of the fact she is a reincarnation of that god it's something that's said out right which is something that is both a good and bad thing it's a good thing as gives us the audience a chance to keep on making theories about why she has this special connection to their god but it's bad thing because of the fact that this films director , producer and co-writer James Cameron has recently said that if he is unable to make Avatar 4 and 5 due to this film not making enough money at the box office then the one plot line from this film will then only get resolved in a novel when the people that have sat through nearly six or seven hours of both the second and third film combined would want to see it get resolved in a movie as it is something that could make up the plot of an Avatar movie.
Whilst this film is subtitled Fire And Ash and the all of the films marketing made you believe that the film would mostly focus on the element of fire. That is a lie as the film much like with the second Avatar movie mostly focuses on the element of water with there being shockingly few scenes that feature fire in it as the only connection to fire that this film has being he fact that Varang is the leader of a volcano tribe and that she likes to use fire in battle and that's really it as we don't get to see any cool looking locations with it like we did in the previous film with water which makes it pointless to call this film fire and ash but in saying this tho Varang herself is a pretty cool villain even tho she doesn't get alot of screen time as she is this tough fighter who is willing to do whatever she wants to whomever she wants just because she can do with her not really having an end goal which is something that is usually a red flag and it is still here but at the same time it is something that does still work in this films favor as she's an insane person who quite literally wants to watch the world burn so she wouldn't really have a plan to speak off she'd just be doing whatever she wants and that is exactly what she does with the only reason that she helps out Quaritch in the first place being the fact that he can give her more tools in which to course great amounts of fire and that's really it which is something that's perfect for both characters but at the same time tho it would have been nice if we got to see more of her character as right now she just comes across as an evil version of Neytiri which is fine as Neytiri is still a really good character but it does mean that Varang doesn't have the room to be her own unique character either.
It does go without saying that despite Jake and his family having to deal with basically three foes there biggest foe is the one thing that's linking the two groups of foes together that being Quaritch. As while he's not as evil as he was in the second one he is still a pretty crazy villain with his main goal in this film just to be to get revenge on Jake and his family and that's it with him even going as far as team up with other Na'vi tribes just to help him reach that goal however tho the film does do something interesting with him and that's the fact that they have him and Jake spend a small portion of the films opening act working together to help to locate there kids after Varang attacks Jake and his family which is such a cool concept as it's something that does call back to the second movie where we did get to see his more softer side with Spider which does show that he does really care for Spider like a son heck even in this film when both Jake and Spider have been captured by the RDA it's Quaritch that brings Spider some food and tries to reason with him which is cool idea as it does show off this characters more softer side but that doesn't mean that he's not as heartless as was in the previous films as both he and Varang form a partnership in a bid to bring down the entire sully family and all of their allies something which does result in both Spider gaining the ability to breath the Pandorian air without his mask early on in the film and the death of Quaritch himself as he's just not able to handle the fact that Jake is the better person and that he will never be able to defeat him and while having a main hero die off would have worked to make Quaritch seem all the more evil having him be the one to die is also just as shocking as he's meant to the franchises big bad.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly three hours and ten minuets and thirty eight seconds. Which even for an Avatar film is bit on the long side with this not really being helped by the fact that you do start to feel that running time near the end of the film as the film builds up to what could be an ending to the big fight only to suddenly have it start up all over again with this film having just about the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time with the film using it's running time really wisely as the film does take the time to fully develop it's plot due to the fact that this film does act as kind of like a slow burn where the plot does take a little while to get going which is something that does allow for the plot of this film to be developed with the alot of the scenes that develop the various plots in this film happening in not only the bigger action scenes but also in the smaller character scenes as well which is something that does make those scenes ones that you need to watch as there all about advancing the characters own plots with the film even taking the time to fully develop it's characters as well as all of the films main characters each getting some character development be it Neytiri getting over her hatred of humans or Jake learning to trust his son granted alot of the films character development was set up in the previous film it's still something that's done really well in this film thanks again to alot of the films smaller scenes that might not seem important at first but they are things that do add to the films characters and while the films third act could have done with being trimmed done quite alot this films running time is a really soli running time to have but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of really fun action scenes that do make what could have been seen as a film that's a chore to sit through all the more fun to watch as we do get to see the characters but into some serious life or death or situations and with this film finishing off the story from the second film there was a very good chance that alot of them could have ended up dying which is something that does make those scenes all the more thrilling to watch with the best action scene in the whole entire film being the films third act which granted does go on a bit to long but the action in that third act is still really fun as we get to see alot of the inhabitants of Pandora both on the land and in the sea take part in this huge truly epic battle against Quaritch and Varang and the RDA with the idea of alot of the tribes uniting for this battle alone being more then enough to make this films third act battle more then worth watching but then you add in the fact that Kiri and Lo'ak convince alot of the underwater sea life to also take part which is something that makes this battle be all the more bigger and all the more epic then what it really had any right to as it shows that alot of Pandora has a steak in the outcome of the fight as alot of them don't want the humans there killing them with the film having alot of action scenes that are just as fun and have some really cool moments in them as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall whilst this film isn't as good as The Way Of Water was it is still a good film in it's own right as the film does have some good acting , effects and action in it whilst the plot of the film is something that could have been a little bit better the rest of the film more then makes up for it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
