Star Wars: The Force Awakens Film Review
It's save to say that out of all of the franchises out there Star Wars was perhaps one of the most biggest ones out there. Whilst it doesn't hold as much weight today as it once did it would be hard to argue that when Star Wars got something right it really did get it right and for better or worse one of the things that it got right was with the release of the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today and so then join me as I review the film that is the best film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy with the film in question being called simply just "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a young scavenger and ex stormtrooper meet a droid with a map to Luke Skywalker they have to do whatever it takes to make sure that the maps ends up in the right hands. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as while it does yes come across as being a remake of A New Hope that is something that does work to this films advantage as the makers of this film had to first prove that they could make a typical Star Wars film before they could then make a Star Wars film that did things differently which is what this film did do really well but in saying that tho this films plot really isn't the best that it could have been as this does feel like it was plot that was thrown together in five minuets instead of it being something that took months to create with it being obvious that those that were involved with the making of this film only got involved because of the pay check and not because of the love for Star Wars whereas you can tell right away in A New Hope that it was a plot that took years to develop and made to be the best that it could have been because Disney wanted the film by a certain date it pretty much meant that the films story had to be rushed and it really does show in the final cut pf the film with the film having some good ideas but not really developing them but when the plot is good like with alot of the scenes with Finn and Poe then it can be good and it does show that the writers of this film had at the very least some idea of what they were doing with the plot of this film being really rather entertaining and as well as being really engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Harrison Ford as Han Solo , Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren. Also starring in this film is Daisy Ridley as Rey , John Boyega as Finn , Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron , Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata , Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke , Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux , Anthony Daniels as C-3PO , Max von Sydow as Lor San Tekka , Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca , Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma , Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca , Greg Grunberg as Snap Wexley , Billie Lourd as Lieutenant Connix , Simon Pegg as Unkar Plutt and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With it being quite obvious that all of this film actors are at the very least trying to turn in a good performance and it is something that does show through in the final film as all of the films actors are genuinely a group of really good actors but tho sadly alot of them just aren't used as well as they should have been like for example Gwendoline Christie who we know from Game Of Thrones is a really good actor and yet the film keeps her under a helmet and gets rid of her as soon as they can do which feels like a waste of a really good actor so much so that any female actor could have played the role of Captain Phasma and got the same results and while the films newer actors are good in their own right they just can't hold a candle to the films more established franchise actors which is a shame as we know from other projects that Daisy Ridley is a good actor with the same thing also being true for both John Boyega and Oscar Isaac and while yes Andy Serkis does a great job in this film he to feels very under utilized in the film with him only showing up in a very small handful of scenes with the films best actor being Harrison Ford which is of no surprise to anyone as he really is just such a good actor and from the second he walks on screen and is back in the Millennium Falcon he just IS Han Solo hands down with the acting that's in this very film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none off this film actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGIA for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Kelvin Optical , Base FX , Hybride Technologies and Virtuous. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt hat the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films effects more then holding up ten years later with this mainly being due to the fat that the makers of this film used a combination of practical and CGI effects alot of the time and it really is something that helps to make the CGI effects blend in better with the live action footage as you can have a ship cast a shadow the way that something would have done if it was there on set for real and not just have to guess with the film even using practical sets as well which is a huge improvement over the approach taken for the prequel films where alot of things where CGI and yet while this films effects are indeed really good having good looking effects doesn't make the film good at all with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film put alot more effort and thought into creating some really good effects something which would have been alot more easier to do given just who is working on this films effects then they did in anything in regards to the films plot or characters but credit where it is due the film does know when to use CGI and when to things for real as they very easily could have done someone like Unkar Plutt and Chewbacca in a computer and called it a day but it's the fact that they went to the trouble of making those suits and doing those characters for real that help to make this world feel alot more real then what it already is.
There is no way to do a review of this film and not talk the most contentious character from the sequel trilogy that being Rey. As it's pretty obvious that Disney really did want to make her the next Luke Skywalker however there was one thing that Luke had that she doesn't and that's flaws as Luke is presented as someone who is young and eager to do things more often then not in a rushed manner and we do get to see him over come that flaw and learn that sometimes taking your time on things allows you to see the bigger picture which in turn will help you out in the longer run but with Rey right from the word go she's presented as someone who is completely perfect and has no flaws to speak and when you do that you only have one way to go with your character and that's down yet on paper Rey being a female force sensitive person could have worked and she could have been a really cool character to see in future films as all she needed was flaws in her character to over come and that's really it with this not really being helped by the fact that the only interesting thing about her character being who her parents could be gets totally destroyed in The Last Jedi and then retconned again in The Rise Of Skywalker and while the makers of the film did try to make her an interesting character they forgot to give her a good story and personality both of which characters like Luke , Finn and yes to some degree Poe had and heck out of the two characters Finn was the one that had the more interesting story in the film as he's an ex-stormtrooper now fighting against those that he worked for and yet the makers of this film instead chose to follow a character that is as bland as a plank of wood and had the personality of a tea spoon as well.
Speaking of Luke Skywalker out of all of this films legacy characters they did him the dirtiest as he only appears in one scene at the end of the film and has exactly zero lines of dialog. Yet the whole film is meant to be about finding him and bringing him back home this is a character that took on and defeated The Emperor and fought Darth Vader in the same movie he was a hero to millions of kids growing up and yet they treated him like he was some second yate character this right here is how you can tell that the makers of this film weren't true Star Wars fans at all because if they were then they would have had do something literally anything meaningful in the film over then just appear for what is quite literally a cameo role in the film and it's perhaps this scene that made alot of old school Star Wars angry as they know Luke and from the behind the scenes picture that was officially released by Disney and Lucasfilm it made it look like that he was going to be playing a much more bigger role in the film and to just have him appear in one scene at the end which is already bad enough but to then give him no lines of dialog is just disrespectful to the character and to his legacy and it something that Mark Hamill should have stood up for as it's his legacy as well but to the films credit they do make the plot of the film be about him and about trying to find him but there's better ways in which you could have done that without having Luke be this hermit type of character like you could have had Luke be someone who is used to going on undercover mission for the Resistance hence why The First Order is looking for him with Leia looking for him because he was due to report in but didn't thus causing her to worry about his safety something which would make sense as he's her brother afterall.
While Kylo Ren in this film doesn't have the best starts as a villain as he does come across more as a whiney teenager who's just been told no for the first time in his life then a straight up powerful force user. The film does do it's best to try and make him intimidating something which to be fair to this trilogy they would kind of do with the following two films but by then it's to little to late with him in this film not being all that creepy and all that scary and menacing where as if you look back at even just the first scene in A New Hope where they introduce us to Darth Vader they treat it like it's a big deal and they make him both look and sound like a threat and so when he does go up against Obi-Wan near the end of the film we fear for his life yet here despite him having a really cool looking design Kylo Ren just isn't that threatening as a character and while it could be argued that this is because of the fact that the Ben Solo side of his character is still trying to come out which would be a fair enough argument to make there still should have been more thought into how this was going to play out in the final film and while he does have the edginess needed to be a villain he comes across more as being a side villain to Hux who is perhaps the least interesting villain that this film introduces us to as all he does is SHOUT HIS LINES alot of the time and that's that's not creepy it's annoying and heck we don't even get to find why Kylo Ren is supposedly evil in the first place which just makes him feel like and afterthought in the film and yet if there was more thought put into his character then he could have been one of the best villains in the Disney Star Wars era as he has the right look he just needed everything else to go with it and that's really it.
Now then this film has / had an exact grant total running time of exactly two hours and eighteen minuets and six seconds. Which to be fair is pretty par the course for Star Wars film to have this kind of longer running time with the film itself having just about the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place however tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the plot of the film as good as it is isn't that well developed with the films plot being at best wafer thin and at times just straight up dropping the plot not so much that you can't tell what the plot of the film is but enough so you'd notice it happening in the first place and yet if the makers of this film really wanted this film to be this long then all they had to was develop the films plot as that would then allow for things to be more fully explained like how can Rey not only hold herself in but also a win a fight against the more experienced Kylo Ren and how Poe Dameron is suddenly alive and well despite him being very much dead both of these things are key plot points and neither of them get explained with the film not even taking the time to fully develop it's new characters either with Rey being the best example of this as there's nothing to her character that makes her standout and yet if the Lucasfilm and Disney wanted to make her this trilogy's version of Luke Skywalker then what they should have done is fully develop her character and while the film doesn't really need to develop it's legacy characters due to them being in the original trilogy they really did need to do something anything to develop it's newer characters as that would have made them more memorable and possibly more well liked by the wider fandom then what they are but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is ana action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films action perhaps being the best aspect of the film as that's where alot of the thought and effort was put into which whilst there it is fair enough as Star Wars films are still action films the other Star Wars films knew to be good films as well and to put just as much effort into the rest of the film and not just it's action with this film having an action what feels like every five minuets which is something that can be exhausting for us the audience to watch as the film doesn't really give us the chance to fully catch our breathes before the next one starts up again with the best action scene in the whole entire film being the films third act as we basically get two stories going on at once one with Poe and other pilots trying to blow up Starkiller Base whilst Rey and Finn try to fight Kylo Ren whilst trying to get back to the Millennium Falcon and escape the planet before it's blows with both stories being very action packed with it being helped by the fact that the original trilogy barely told to stories during there action scenes and to this films credit it does manage to give both of them some really cool moments even if Rey being able to beat the more experienced force user in a lightsaber fight being something that really doesn't make alot of sense the third act action on the whole was one that was done really well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall as was stated at the start of this review this film really is the best film in the sequel trilogy mostly because of the fact that this film does copy what was done alot more better in A New Hope with the things that this film does try to do differently not being done as well as they really should have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Star Wars fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
