Bridget Jones's Diary Film Review

Every so often you get the urge to watch something that you might not always normally watch and nine times out of ten you do find yourself enjoying the film as well. With that being the case for the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today as even tho I was very much aware of this film and all of it's sequels i've never actually sat down and watched a single frame of the films well that all changes now and so then join me as I review the film that helped to make Renée Zellweger with the film in question being called simply just "Bridget Jones's Diary" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when thirty two year old Bridget Jones meets up with an old fiend she finds herself becoming more and more attracted to both him and her boss as well. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being one that oddly feels really true to life as the character does go through tings that alot of other people might have gone through as well with this films plot being one that isn't afraid to be silly and to put it's characters into these situations where us the audience are forced to laugh at the characters and yet at the same time the films plot also isn't afraid of going to these more sentimental places either which is something that does make this film feel like a better made romantic comedy which given that this film was co-written by Richard Curtis hasn't really made a bad film with all of films being really good films with it being clear that he knew how to craft a really good plot for this film even if the films plot is on the whole a little bit on the weaker side of things as the film does drop and pick up it's plot so many times that it's hard to tell just what the main plot of the film is even meant to be alot of the time but when the film does focus on it's plot thats when the film gets to be the most entertaining with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones , Colin Firth as Mark Darcy and Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver. Also starring in this film is Jim Broadbent as Colin Jones , Gemma Jones as Pamela Jones , Celia Imrie as Una Alconbury , James Faulkner as 'Uncle' Geoffrey , Charmian May as Geraldine Darcy , Paul Brooke as Kenneth Fitzherbert , Felicity Montagu as Perpetua , Shirley Henderson as Jude , Sally Phillips as Sharon , James Callis as Tom , Embeth Davidtz as Natasha Glenville , Patrick Barlow as Julian , Lisa Barbuscia as Lara , Neil Pearson as Richard Finch , Dolly Wells as Woney and Donald Douglas as Admiral Mark Darcy, Snr..

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to jus in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances which is something that's not really all that surprising and yet it's still surprising as well as while all of this films actors are now a bunch of big named stars who we know can turn in a good performance the fact is back when this film was being made it's the opposite that was true and therefor it would have been foolish to expect a good performance from them and yet that is exactly what we got from all of this films actors with the lead characters being so well cast that it is hard to picture anybody else playing these characters as they all bring something that's unique to them to there characters with the best decision that could have been being to cast an unknown or very little known actor as Bridget Jones as she is meant to be the everywoman of the film the person that we meet just walking down the street and casting a more ell known actor to play her would have been a huge disservice to her character with the best actor in the film being Renée Zellweger as she is just a joy to watch in this film with it being made crystal clear right from the moment that she appears on screen that she fully understands who this is character and because of that she delivers a performance that is perfect for her character with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

From a character standpoint this films are all really well done as they are all some really good characters. With all of the films mean lead characters being for lack of a better word charming as they all have something about them that makes them both funny and heartbreaking at the same time with this adding to what makes the film feel alot more real then what it really should have been as by al rights this film should been nothing more then a fantasy type of film and yet the film oddly feels grounded in reality with that being mainly due to the fact that the films characters feel like real people with Bridget being someone who is this hopeless romantic and yet is utterly clueless about other things whereas Mark is more traditionally smart but isn't the best romantic and Daniel isn't the smartest tool in the shed but knows how to charm women all three of those characters are people that we all meet in our day to day lives and yet all three characters are presented as being flawed characters as Bridget has body image issues , Mark has a lack of self confidence and Mark is just a terrible people who knows how to charm the pants of any woman that he wants and yet it's seeing two of three characters overcome these issues and become stronger characters because of it that makes them feel real and that makes enjoyable characters with the same thing being true for Daniel as while he doesn't change who is that adds to the films realism as sometimes people don't change no matter how much you ask them to and heck even the quirky side characters help to make this film both feel grounded and yet be alot more entertaining then what it really had any right to be in the first place.

As I romance film it is kind of hard to judge this film fairly as i'm not the biggest fan of romantic comedies. However tho this films was utterly sweet as it was interesting seeing Bridget having to essentially choose which character she would want to end up with all the while finding out things about both of them that could and sometimes do put her off both characters but out of the two male leads it is pretty obvious that Renée Zellweger has the better romantic chemistry with Colin Firth even tho she spends just as much time on screen with Hugh Grant then she does with Colin but with Hugh you do kind of get the impression that they'd be better off as friends whereas with Colin you can see both characters living happily together as they really do love and care for each other with Mark even getting her a new diary at the end of the film as a way of them starting a fresh start together which was a nice touch and it is something that does show you that nice guys don't always finish last whereas with Daniel you get the impression that he'd either A dump her the moment he gets bored with her or B cheat on her the second that he gets the chance to as that's in his character to do so and heck his character doesn't even do anything nice for Bridget that doesn't serve his interests whereas with Mark we do see that he really does care for her with it being made clear that those two characters are the ones that meant to be with each other and to be fair to the film having her have to choose between the two of them was an interesting thing to do and while it could be argued on if she chose the right person or not what is perfectly clear is the people with the better romantic chemistry won out in the end.

For people who are perhaps unaware this film is actually an adaptation of a book of the same name which was written by this films co-writer Helen Fielding. With the book oddly bein less known then the film version and just based off of a very quick reading of the books Wikipedia page it does seem like the film is a close adaptation of the book however it is of course hard to say on if the book fixes any issues that are there in the film since as was mentioned the film doesn't really focus on it's plot a whole lot now this is something that could have been true in the book as well but given that in a book you have as long as you really need to in order to tell your story so for all we could know the book might be a little bit more focused when it comes to it's plot but however tho the one thing that we know for sure is that the right person was chosen to direct this film as this films director Sharon Maguire is not only best friends with Helen Fielding but also the inspiration for the character of Sharon as well and just like and all of the other films in this franchise are all adaptations of Helen Fieldings books as well with it being interesting to try and find out on if the book handled the romance better then the film did as the book would have had alot more time to flesh out it's romance then what the film would have done as even tho this isn't a big issue when it comes to the film it is something that very easily could have become a huge issue if the wrong person was making this film and while it could be argued that having the writer of the book also serve as one of the films co-writers in this case it is something that works well for the film as who would know the world that these characters exist in better then the person that created them in the first place.

There is a big reveal with Mark and Daniel that you can kind of see coming a mile away just due to how it was filmed . As early on in the film when Daniel is out on a date with Bridget he says that he caught Mark in bed with someone else on Marks own wedding day and yet due to the fact that we never see either persons face all throughout that flashback it's pretty clear that he was telling a lie as such it's not really all that shocking when it's revealed that the person who was actually in bed with someone on Mark's wedding day was Daniel and he was in bed with Mark's soon to be wife which granted isn't something that you can see coming a mile away but once it's revealed it's kind of hard not to notice it in hindsight with this being the first big clue that Daniel isn't the best person to be around with the rest of the reasons coming all throughout the film when we see him acting like a horrible towards Bridget herself with her only breaking up with him after she pretty much catches him in bed with one of his colleagues butt what is odd is that Bridget's parents don't really get involved a whole lot in the film so much so that you do kind of forget that they are meant to be characters in the film when it would have made more sense for either her mum or dad to try and cheer up during one of the many times when she does get her heartbroken as that would at the very least make sense for there characters but to be fair to this film for little we do see of her parents they do make there screen time count and as there not really main characters it doesn't effect the film to much that there not in it during scenes where they really would should have been.

Now then this film really has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one and thirty seven minuets. Which to be fair to this film is pretty much the exact running time that you'd think that a film like this one would have with the film even having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time however tho in saying that tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as this film really doesn't develop it's plot with the plot of the film barely getting alot of focus in the first place which is something that does make it hard for the film to fully develop it's plot this is despite the fact that the film very easily could have developed it's plot just by going more into what makes Bridget want to get a boyfriend as that's the main driving force behind the film in the first place with the film not even taking the time to fully develop it's characters either with alot of the films characters coming across as being one dimensional which I guess does make sense as it's only the side characters that don't get that much development however tho it's also true for the films main characters as well as none of them get that much interms of character development this is despite the fact that the film does have ample amounts of scenes where they could develop there characters alot more but the film doesn't take the time needed to do that which could be seen as being fair as this film is meant to have weak characters as we're seeing this film through the eyes of Bridget and her diary and therefor of course the film is going to skip out on giving it's characters some character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the film having alot of really cute jokes that whilst they aren't as funny today as they might have been back in 2001 they are still really good jokes with the film really just telling the kinds of jokes that would have only have worked back in the olden days as this film does make alot of body weight jokes all of which are very hit and miss but in saying that tho they all feel very character driven as it's Bridget herself that's making those jokes with the film not really having a best joke not because of the fact that the film isn't funny because it is but it's because of the fact that none of this films jokes are laugh out loud funny with all of this films jokes being just either very cute or just cringy which is something that des make sense as Bridget herself is meant to be this very awkward character and so she would of course make these awkward jokes as that's true to her character but at the same time for a film that's meant to be a romantic comedy the film feels very heavy on the romantic aspect of the film and not that heavy on the comedy with the film favoring being romantic over being funny when it should have been equally funny and equally romantic as then the film could have had it's cake and eaten to but by choosing one over the other it means that certain bits of the film that should have been funny come across as being quite unfunny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall it is quite easy to see why this film became as big as it did as there is alot to like about this film but at the same time tho this is a film that does feel like it would only be liked in the time that it was made in as it's a film that does have alot of flaws to it and really isn't as funny as it could have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
