Your Name Film Review

When it comes to films it's all about which one strikes a chord with the audience better as there can be several better films that are released on the exact same day but if that one film that's not as good as the others strikes a chord with the audience then it'll be that film that people will be talking about the most. Case in point the film that i'm going to be talking to you all today as while yes this film came out around the same time as two other and quite frankly better anime films in A Silent Voice and In This Corner Of The World this was the film that set the anime world on fire becoming a hit not just with anime fans but with mainstream audiences as well and so then join me as I review the film that is a visual treat for the eyes with the film in question being called simply just "Your Name" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when teenagers Taki and Mitsuha start swapping bodies randomly they most work out why before it's to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being one that whilst it does tread alot of the same steps that alot of Makoto Shinkai do seem tread it does so masterfully more then not doing so in ways that you wouldn't expect it to happen in the first place with the plot of the film also being one where the less you know about what's going on in the film before hand the more that your able to sit back and enjoy the films plot as otherwise all your left doing is asking how and why the main twist of the film happens and not being as sucked in as you really could have been in the first place and while the plot of the film isn't the strongest plot out there as there are times in the films third act where the film does drop it's plot for no reason for large periods of time and all that does is make you wonder what the main plot of the film was even supposed to be in the first place but by then your so engrossed by the film that you can kind of forgive the film for doing that even tho it is something that does highlight the fact that even tho this films plot is indeed really good it's also one that really could have been alot more better then what it already is in the first place with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Michael Sinterniklaas as Taki Tachibana and Stephanie Sheh as Mitsuha Miyamizu. Also starring in this film is Ben Pronsky as Tsukasa Fujii , Cassandra Morris as Sayaka Natori , Kyle Hebert as Katsuhiko Teshigawara , Laura Post as Miki Okudera , Ray Chase as Shinta Takagi , Catie Harvey as Yotsuha Miyamizu , Glynis Ellis as Hitoshi Miyamizu , H.D. Quinn as Teshigawara's Father , Katy Vaughn as Yukari Yukino , Marc Diraison as Taki's Father , Michelle Ruff as Futaba Miyamizu and Teshigawara's Mother and Scott Williams as Toshiki Miyamizu.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which was something that both was and wasn't all that surprising it was surprising as this kind of film really doesn't allow for good acting to be in it in the first place and yet that's exactly what we got from all of this films actors and wasn't all that surprising as alot of this films actors are a bunch of really good actors in their own right with it being made clear as day that the makers for this dubbed version of the film really did know how to cast the characters perfectly as all of this films characters be they major characters or minor characters all feel perfectly well cast with it being hard to picture them sounding any differently then what they do in the film as that's just how well cast all of this films actors with the best actor in this whole entire film being Michael Sinterniklaas as he does have alot of the more dramatic scenes in the film and yet he makes them all work so well with him somehow making this totally unbelievable situation seem real and while alot of that does also go to Stephanie Sheh as well with Michael on the other hand he delivers his lines in such a way that it makes Taki feel like a real person which in turn helps to make the film and the events of the film feel all the more real as a result of that with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this film.

Doing the animation form this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at CoMix Wave Films. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty pheromonal with that being the best word to describe this films animation as every single frame of animation is filled to the brim with love and care and it is something that really does show in the film and while yes we do get some 3D CGI animation in this film as well that's mostly done for the films backgrounds when the characters are walking and that's really it and even that CGI looks really good with the best way to describe this films animation is that it's like a piece of art as every single frame of animation in this film could be hung up somewhere as that's how good it looks with there being alot of detail in all of the films backgrounds all of which do make this films world feel more lived in and real with the film even from an animation point of view being a visual treat for the eyes as there's just so much going on in the film from an animation point of view and all of it not only works well for the film as a whole but it also all looks really good as well with there not really being a single bad thing that can be said about this films animation as it looks fantastical enough that you buy the film as being this fantasy type of film but also looks real enough for you buy the film as taking place in the modern day as well.

There are two things that this film is quite known for the first of which being it's shocking third act twist. Which even all these later and the fact that the film came out years ago will not by spoiled here in this review as the film is worth watching for the twist alone with the films twist being so well done that you don't really see it coming and even when you go back to see if there are any clues to the big reveal it's still something that works and part of makes it work so well is the fact that you buy into the characters of Taki and Mitsuha as if your not able to buy into them and there relationship then the films twist no matter how good it is doesn't work and this is were this films writer and director Makoto Shinkai really shines through as he gave us alot of time to really get to know and to like these characters before then pulling the rug from under our feet and when he does that it hits so hard like it does the films characters and that is something that does make him a master storyteller but at the same time tho this film would have worked just fine without the big twist as the characters are likable enough as it is to make the film with the fact that we have this big shocking twist only serving to make the film all the more worth while with the really the only thing that lets the big twist down is that it's not explained how they've been swapping bodies all this time which des make the whole thing feel more like an afterthought as there are alot of things about the twist reveal that doesn't get explained but in saying that it could be argued that we're not meant to know all that much about it as that way we get let our imaginations run wild with theories and reasons as to why this twist happened and how it happened in the first place which is something that does make it all the ore exciting.

With the other thing that it could be argued that this film is also really known for being it's central romance between Taki and Mitsuha. As even the characters don't really spend any time together for the vast majority of the films running time you do still believe them as a potential couple with each one being what the other needs be it Taki brining in rues and stability to the unruly Mitsuha or Mitsuha brining more fun to their relationship both of which are things that the other person is lacking and because of that they do both in a way need each other which is something that does make it all the more heartbreaking when they forget each others name and what the other person looks like and while the break up in 5 Centimeters Per Second was done alot more better as in that film it was due to the characters drifting apart as people naturally do that made them stop being in love with each other even tho each had written a letter to the other confessing their feelings to each other where as here even tho they both have chances to confess their feelings to each other through the letters that they leave other neither one of them takes that chance which does make there heartbreak and breakup feel a little less impactful then what it could have been this is despite the fact that it is still really well done with it playing in the films third act and epilogue really well with even there breakup being something that will require people to have boxes of tissues with them as it is something that whilst it was done better in 5 Centimeters Per Second is still something that works just as well in this film as this film does give us alot more chances to get to know both of these characters and therefor we want to see them get together at the end of the film something that 5 Centimeters Per Second just couldn't do.

While the film does have some fairly interesting main characters where it does somewhat fail is in it's side characters. As the films side characters aren't really given alot of time to fully show us the audience why we should care about them in the first place which I guess is something that makes sense as afterall we the audience aren't there for them we're here for the main characters but at the same time tho there still could have bee some effort into making the side characters alot more interesting then what they already are with the only thing that's memorable about Miki Okudera whom only real character trait seems to be that's she's beautiful and that's really it with none of Mitsuha's not really being all that memorable as characters this is despite the fact that both Sayaka and Tessie do have their own romance going on in the film as well and even play a huge part in the films truly epic third act but here's the thing tho from a character stand point there's nothing all that memorable about either character which again does make sense as there not the main characters and so of course there not going to be all that memorable but at the same time tho it would have helped the film out quite alot if they were given something that did make them standout especially given the fact that they play a huge role in the films climax with this even being something that would have been a very thing to fix as all it would taken was just a few lines of dialog here and there with the side characters to add something to any of their characters as that would then give them alot more personality and make them standout from each other whilst not over shadowing the films main characters and their storyline.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty six minuets and thirty five seconds. Which to be fair to this film is a pretty solid if a somewhat long running time for this film to have in  the first place with the film having more the enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time in the first with the film even using it's running time wisely in one respect as the films plot is as fully developed as it was ever going to be as while the film does have a really simple plot to it it's also a plot that didn't really need to be that well developed as part of what makes the films plot work is it's characters with the films characters being more then enough to make the films plot work and make it seem all the more well developed then what it actually is in the first place with the films characters however sadly not being that well developed as the only two characters that we get to find anything about is Taki and Mitsuha and that's really it which again is something that does make sense as they are the films main characters but at the same time tho it still would have been nice to make the films side characters all the more developed as then we would be given a reason to care for them and want to see more of them and yet for one reason or another the makers of this film instead chose not make them interesting characters and while it doesn't hurt the film that much it still would have helped to make the film all the more better if all of the characters in this film were well developed with this being something that could have very easily have been fixed just by removing alot of the filler scenes in this film and replacing them with scenes that develop the side characters a little bit more and that's really it but I really admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a drama that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film being filled to the brim with dramatic moments that work because of the fact that the makers of this film took the time to make all of this films likable characters and therefor when something bad does happen to them we feel for them because of the fact that we've grown to like them as characters and want to see them come out of this film OK with the film best bit of drama being the entire third act as not only is that when the films truly epic twist comes into play but it's also when we get to see that the meteor that we'd been told all about throughout the film is actually heading right towards Mitsuha's village and so she and her friends have to struggle to get every one out of the village all the while trying to convince her father who is the village mayor to help them out and while the stuff with her father is stuff that really isn't needed as the drama was working just fine with out altho the added twist of her and Taki trying and very slowly failing to remember each others names is something that does make the films ending feel bitter sweet as even tho she does save the day at the end they both cannot be with the person that they both want to be with the most with all of this films drama working just as well as the films huge dose as third act drama really does as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst yes this film is really good and does deserve all of the praise that it not only got back in 2016 but still gets to this very day both A Silent Voice and In This Corner Of The World are the better of the three films it's just that this film managed to capture something that those other two films did with this film being worth watching if not for the drama and twist but for the animation alone as it's just that good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that re in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 9 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all f the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Wikipedia , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
