The Simpsons Movie Film Review

When it comes to animated TV shows there are none that have had the staying power of The Simpsons with the show starting in the late eighties and STILL airing new episodes to this very day. With the show being as popular as it still is it was only a matter time when the Simpson family got there own movie and low and behold in 2007 that's exactly what happened and it's that very film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today and with the news that they are getting a second film in two years time it does oddly seem fitting to be reviewing this movie as well and so then join me as I review the film that sees America's favorite TV family make the leap from the small screen to the big screen with the film in question being called simply just "The Simpsons Movie" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when is he accidentally gets the entire town trapped in a glass dome and with his family on the run from the law it's up to Homer to find a way to save his beloved town from being destroyed for good. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with the films plot being alot more better then what it really could have been as this is a film where the plot could have very easily have been an extended episode of the show but no the makers of this film actually went out of their way to make sure that this is a plot that could only happen in a movie and to that extent it worked because this is a plot that could and more importantly should only be told in a movie as doing it in an episode of the show would alot of serious harm to the plot on the whole as alot of what makes the plot work isn't in the big set piece scenes it's in the smaller character scenes be it Bart forming a bond with Ned or Lisa getting a boyfriend or Marge and Homer having issues in their marriage those are all plot lines that would need to be cut if this was done for the show but because it's done for the movie it means that those smaller scenes can now have a bigger impact and be fully justified in this film with the plot of this film being as well done as it was ever going to be and being a plot that is quite frankly strong enough to support an entire film in it's own right with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson , Itchy , Barney , Grampa , Stage Manager , Krusty The Clown , Mayor Quimby , Mayor's Aide , Multi-Eyed Squirrel , Panicky Man , Sideshow Mel , Mr. Teeny , EPA Official , Kissing Cop , Bear , Boy On Phone , NSA Worker , Officer , Santa's Little Helper , Squeaky-Voiced Teen and Groundskeeper Willie , Julie Kavner as Marge Simpson and Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson , Maggie Simpson , Ralph Wiggum , Nelson Muntz , Todd Flanders , TV Daughter , Woman On Phone. Lovejoy , Ned Flanders , Lenny , Skull , President Arnold Schwarzenegger , Kent Brockman and Principal Skinner , Pamela Hayden as Milhouse Van Houten , Rod Flanders and Jimbo Jones , Tress MacNeille as Sweet Old Lady , Colin , Agnes Skinner , Nelson's Mother , Pig , Crazy Cat Lady , Female EPA Worker , G.P.S. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films acting being so good is something that is completely understandable as all of this films actors are not only a bunch of really good actors in there own right but have been playing there respective characters for literally decades at this point in time and would therefor know how best to perform there character and how there character would react in any given situation with it being helped by the fact that the films writers are all those that have written several dozen episodes of the show and they therefor know how a certain character talks as well with this being case where all of those involved with the making of this film know how to best to do a certain character with this amount of team work and effort really shining through in the films acting as all pf the films actors including the guest actors turning in some really good performance in their own right with the films best actor really being hard to to say as this is a case where any of the films main actors could and rightfully should be able to make that claim and it would be totally justified due to how well that all of there characters are performed in this film however if pushed i'd say that the films best actor is Dan Castellaneta just because of the fact that he gets to show us a different side to Homer in this film and his acting as the character in those scenes are really great in their own right with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is Film Roman Productions , Rough Draft Studios , Akom Production Company , Rough Draft Korea , CIS Hollywood , Toon Boom Animation , Hanho Heung-Up Company , Munich Animation Film , SEK Animation Studio and Warner Bros. Animation. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featu4red / resented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the film rightfully getting alot of praise for it's animation when this film was almost eighteen years ago as while this films animation isn't on par with anything from Disney or even Studio Ghibli for that matter it is still really good animation with the film even topping the show interms of it's animation which is something that would have been really hard to do as the show has always had some really high quality animation in it even for a TV show and yet this film just comes along and blows the shows animation out of the water not only by mixing 3D CGI backgrounds with 2D hand drawn characters really well but also by giving the characters these really nice and fluid movements that more then likely wouldn't have been possible on the shows budget and while the character designs aren't altered for the film as they don't have any of that detailing that alot of characters seem to get when there transported from there show to there movie you can still quite tell that these characters got a visual upgrade from what they looked like in the show.

What also makes this film standout from an episode of the show is oddly enough it's crowd scenes as you'll notice on the show that whenever they do have a crowd shot they'll have one or two named characters from the show in there with the rest of them being made up of newly created models just for that one scene. Well here in all of the crown scenes in Springfield every character that we see in a named character which isn't much but it's something that does make those scenes oddly feel all the more important as we've gone on a journey with those characters over several years and so when we see them happy or sad or angry in a crowd scene we feel for them because of the fact that we've gotten to know them over the course of the show and heck it could even be argued that this film is meant to be a true love letter to the fans of the show as there are characters in this film that only appear in crowd scenes and yet there deep cut characters that the average fan won't know as there not going to know who Ruth Powers is or who Gabbo is for example and yet both of those characters show up in this film in none speaking roles with this being something that does add to the fact that this is only something that had to be seen in the movie and couldn't be done in an episode of the show as the show has a much more smaller running time and there for has to get to the plot beats alot more quicker then the movie does as here in the movie you can do and the film does take it's time to show us these really obscure characters that the average audience won't know but the die hard fans will do with that being one of the many things that does make this film feel like a true love letter to the fans of the show as it would have been very easy for the makers of this film to just make the movie for the average mainstream audience member who hasn't watched an episode of the show since the nineties but the fact that they went out of there way to include these deep cut characters is something that does make this film feel like a true love letter to the fans of the show.

As much as it made sense from a storytelling standpoint to make Homer the main character of the film as he is the one that would allow for the most character progression. It is something that does come at the expense of the other main family members as both Bart and Marge have there respective plotlines be tied to him which leaves Lisa just on her own with her not getting a plot line to speak off as while yes she does gain a boyfriend in this film she doesn't develop as a character and has no real plot line to speak of which is odd because of the fact that the whole the town was trapped inside of this dome was due to pollution something which she is very big on and therefor it would have made sense to give her a plot line with Homer as well like maybe because of the fact that he caused this massive disaster she now lost all of faith and trust in Homer and over the course of the film he has to try and win that back something which would feel very in character for both characters as out of all of the family members they have one of more stronger bonds together and yet they give that to Bart which don't get me wrong still works for both characters as they've always had this really strong bond together as well but it then leaves Lisa with nothing to do with it feeling like that she was only included in the film because of the fact that she's apart of the main cast of characters and that's really it with her being pretty much a useless character in this film as you could remove her character from the film and nothing would change about the films plot and yet if the makers of the film did give a plot even a small one it is something that would have justified her being in the movie and it could have made her relationship with Homer seem all the more stronger coming out of the movie as well.

To give this film some more credit by making Homer the main character of the movie essentially then it does mean that he gets the chance to grow as a character. As at the start of the film we see that he really doesn't care all about his family all that much or at least no more then he does on the show and yet throughout the course of the film we see how much his family really does mean to him and how far he's willing to go to make amends with them for all of the harm and danger that he's put them in with this being something that really does come to ahead when he finds out that Marge and the kids have left for good something which at that point in time hadn't been done in the show and while it's been done since then with an entire episode at one point being dedicated to Homer and Marge getting a divorce here it's done better because of the fact that it was done that first time and it's only then that Homer does start to realise just how important that his family is to him so much so that when he does mess things up again for the town it's Bart that he goes to when he tries to throw the bomb sent to blow up Springfield with that being how he manages to win him back over as he knows that that is something that he'd like to do and should they fail he'd be able to spend his last moments with his son with Marge being won over not by hm doing some heroic act altho that is apart of it but just by the fact that he was willing to try and help out in the first place with this being something that the Homer at the start of the movie wouldn't have been able to do and yet because of the fact that he's this films main character he now gets the chance to show of this more softer side of himself and get that character progression that the character had been needing at that point in time.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty six minuets and forty four seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running time that you'd expect this film and to be fair this film really does have more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place but in saying that tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely in one regard as the film doesn't take the time that it has to fully develop it's plot with the film for a fairly small amount of time feeling like an episode of the show with there just being short sketches if you will that don't really connect with each other but when the plot does get truly going that's when you see all of the potential in the film it's just a shame that while the plot does indeed feel like something that could only be the plot of a movie and not a plot of an episode of the show that the film did for that little part of it's running time feel like it was stuck in that twenty two minuet format when it had the time to really get going and with the film not really being long it does mean that the film had to get going pretty much right away and if the film did that then it would have allowed for the plot to be more developed instead of rushing in plot points in the films third act as by then it's to little to late however tho the films characters do fair alot more better in this regard tho as while not all of the main characters get development as it's really only Homer that gets character development in this film it could be argued that the rest of the films characters get there development in the show and even those that don't are still done really well in this film as well but I really will admit that this film really does have some really god pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in al honest really good. With the film also getting alot of praise for it's humor and it's not that hard to see why as this is a really painfully funny film as there are alot of really funny jokes in this film ad those that aren't that funny are forgotten about so fast as the film has already thrown two or three more funny jokes at us as that's just how fast that the jokes come at us in this film and while there are alot of physical comedy jokes like Homer trying and failing to go around the Wheel Of Death three times the film does also have some good word play jokes as well like the fact that Homer gets quite literally stuck between a rock and a hard place with the films best joke being not only when Homer sings the Spider-Man theme song but changes it to Spider-Pig but also when he renames Spider-Pig to Harry Plopper both of which are really funny jokes as it does show off just how charming and loveable that Homer himself can be however what really sells us the audience on the Spider-Pig song isn't the fact that he's singing it it's Marge's reaction to it as you can tell right from her blank expression that she's so close to going mad on killing Homer as even for her that's one step to far as it just creates more work for her to do around the house with the film having alot more funny jokes in it as well like Bart altering the families wanted poster only for the people that he made his family look like to actually be real people that get arrested or Lisa just punching Bart in the face when he taunts her about the possibility of not being able to see Colin again bottom line alot of this films jokes are just really funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall The Simpsons Movie 2 or whatever the second Simpsons film ends up being called has alot to live up to as this film is just so good and is one that more that holds up even all of these years later as that's just that good with it being clear as day that the makers of this film put alot of thought into creating a great Simpsons movie and it worked as it's still being talked about almost twenty years later as that's just how good that this film really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys an girls and and well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official The Simpsons fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
