Man Of Steel Film Review

When the new Superman movie came out this year people were comparing to Man Of Steel with some people even bashing the film because of the fact that it's not Man Of Steel. Well after rewatching Man Of Steel those people whilst they really are entitled to their opinion seem to be forgetting one thing and that's that Man Of Steel really wasn't very good and well it's that very film that i'm going to be talking about today and so then join me as I review the film that has just as many CGI explosions as Michael Bay directed Transformers movie with the film in question being called simply just "Man Of Steel" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a criminal known as General Zod and his alien army comes to earth looking to terraform the earth and turn into a new Krypton it's up to Superman to stop him once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt hat he actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad however this films plot really isn't all that good as they spend alot of time just on setting up Zod at the start of the film when that's something that would have been better spent in setting up the plot of the film as this films plot is one that does feel like it's undercooked with the makers of this film taking a more grounded and realistic approach to the film which would be fine if this was a Batman movie but it's not it's a Superman and Superman isn't from this world and therefor taking a more grounded approach to the films plot isn't something that works with his character with the plot being one that does have potential to be good with the film at several points showing us hints at a good plot but because the makers of this films put alot more thought and effort into the films many action scenes and CGI effects then they did the plot it does mean that this films plot isn't allowed to be as good as it could have been when it would have made this film all the more better if the makers of this film got rid of the more realistic approach to the plot and embraced the fact that Superman is an alien as then the film could be alot more fun to watch something that both it and it's plot aren't allowed to be due to the fact that the makers of this films are so committed to being realistic with the plot of this film also not really being really rather entertaining and not is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Kal-El / Superman , Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as General Zod. Also starring in this film is Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent , Diane Lane as Martha Kent , Laurence Fishburne as Perry White , Antje Traue as Faora-Ul , Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van , Christopher Meloni as Col. Nathan Hardy , Harry Lennix as General Calvin Swanwick , Christina Wren as Capt. Carrie Ferris , Richard Schiff as Dr. Emil Hamilton , Carla Gugino as The Voice Of Kelor , Mackenzie Gray as Jax-Ur and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Heck this films acting might be one of the best aspects of the film as even tho this film does get alot of things wrong one of those things is not the acting as all of this films actors do indeed turn in some really solid performances which for alot of these actors isn't really all that surprising and yet for some of this films actors it is completely surprising as while Henry Cavill is more well known these days back when this film was first coming out he was a very little known actor and therefor we wouldn't have known what to expect from him acting wise and yet he and several of this films other little known actors do indeed turn in some really good performances with it being clear as day that whoever was casting this film knows how to cast it's characters perfectly as alot of this films actors are so well cast in this film that it is hard to picture anybody else playing these versions of these characters as that's just how well all of this films characters really well and truly are with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Wētā FX , Double Negative , Moving Picture Company , Scanline VFX , Blur Studio , Look Effects , TeamWorks Digital and Gimzi Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in  this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGU that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this not really being something that's all that shocking as this films director Zack Snyder does always have really good looking CGI effects in all of his movies however tho just because the effects i the film are good doesn't equate to a good film as the film itself is still pretty bad this is despite the fact that the film itself is chocked full to the brim with a bunch of really cool looking effects shots but that's also the problem as while the Superman films will always be effects heavy films here tho it kind of came across as them relying to much on CGI almost to the point where they film might as well be a cartoon where as alot of the Superman films always found that balance of practical and computer effects with this being more then evident in the films third act which has so many effects in it that it might as well be an animated movie as so little of that third act was done for real but in fairness to the film tho due to who is working on this film from an effects standpoint it does make alot of sense to show off their work as the film does have some really good looking effects in it however tho with that in mind the film does have alot of really bad looking effects in it as well with alot of the stuff on Krypton looking like it needed a few more days to fully render and while granted this film was made in 2013 and technology has changed alot since then the makers of this film should have known when to do things for real and when to make it an effect.

One of the key things that any version of the Superman origin has to get right is the death of Jonathon Kent. Which is very sadly something that this film doesn't get right and it's not because of the fact that they have killed by a tornado either rather it's something more simpler then that as it's due to the fact that they didn't make the character likeable enough to the point where we the audience feel sad that he's died as Jonathon in this film spends alot of his screen time yelling at Clark and saying that he should have let the kids that he just saved from drowning die which is something that makes him really unlikable and if your going to do that but not show us why we should care about him in the first place then you can't be shocked when audiences feel nothing but joy for him dying and yet in the version that we got in the 1978 film the makers of that film went out of their way to show us why we should care for and like the character just by having do one simple thing and that's give Clark some fatherly advice and that's it as that one scene coupled with the scene he tries and fails to convince Martha not to adopt the then Baby Clark Kent tells us that he is deep down a really caring person and therefor when he does suffer his fatal heart attack we the audience feel something because of the fact that even tho he had a very short amount of screen time in that film he was still a really likeable character and that's something that this films take on the character was very sorely missing and because of that when he does die we don't feel sadness at seeing a likeable character we feel joy at seeing a character that we didn't like no longer being in the film.

Whilst it might seem that this review is going to be all about bashing this movie it really isn't as there are some things that I really liked about the film. Like for example the films take on Lois Lane was pretty interesting as having her be this kind of action hero type of character who is willing to go to wherever in the world and whatever it takes to get a news story does oddly enough feel true to her character be it in the various other films or in the comics and TV shows with the film even going as far as they could have possibly done with that concept in this film by having her flying all over the place just to track down Clark after he saved her when she was in his I guess you could say alien spaceship which does serve as a good way of getting them to meet each other instead of having it be the stereotypical way where it's Clarks first day at the Daily Planet and they get told to work together as at the very least here you get to see just how fearless of a reporter that she is instead of just being told it with the other thing that oddly worked in this film was the scenes on Krypton as even tho we spend FAR to long just on the prolog alone when all we really needed to know was what Zod was trying to do in this film and that's really it as the origin of Superman is so well known that you don't need to show that much of it in order for it to work in the film but here tho showing us the ins and outs of Krypton as a society is something that does make that world feel alot more lived in and real and while it doesn't make us feel anything when the planet does blow up it is something that does show us just what live on Krypton was like on day to day basis for these characters something that really hadn't been shown before interms of the live action Superman movies.

While the acting for Zod worked really well for the film what doesn't work for the character is the writing. As the Zod in this film is far away from the cold and calculating villain that he was in the first two Christopher Reeve movies and instead someone who shouts alot of lines just to make him come across as being more crazy and insane then what he actually is as all that does is make him more of annoying character and less of a scary character where as with the Terence Stamp take on the character he would spend good portion of the final fight in Superman 2 just watching and studying Clark so he knew when to attack him and how best to hurt him thus making him alot of smarter in a fight then what he might appear to be where as with this version of the character he's the kind of person that will punch widely in the hopes that he hit something maybe and while both characters are smart when there not in a fight as the Zod in this film does learn pretty quickly how to adjust to our atmosphere and sort of control his new powers he's still not that interesting as a character as there's really nothing to his character that makes him all that interesting in the first place but the film does get some credit for giving him a plan that we really haven't seen before in a superhero movie that being the fact that he wants to terraform the earth and turn into a new Krypton thus wiping out all life on earth which is something that does feel true to what little character he has in the first place but at the same time tho it does still boil down to Superman having to stop a sky beam which even back then was becoming a bit of an overdone trope in superhero movies.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twenty three minuets and two seconds. Which again to be fair to this film is a perfectly solid running time for a superhero film to have especially one like this one where it has an entire universe to set up as well as tell a good story in it's own right with the film having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place however tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the film is more focused on showing us every little bit about how Krypton was before it blew up then it is in developing it's plot with the films main plot being really underdeveloped as the film doesn't do anything that makes it's plot more well rounded in developed with characters coming and going for large portions of the films running time so much so that it was at times hard to tell just what the main plot was even meant to be alot of the time with the film not even developing it's characters which for characters like Superman and Lois Lane does make sense as they were always going to appear in the other DCEU films but for characters like Jor-El and Zod both of whom only appear in this film there should have been more of an effort to give those characters some kind of character development as the only thing that you remember about this version of Zod is the fact that he shouts alot of lines and you remember nothing about this version of Jor-El something which could have fixed if the character was more well developed then what he is in this film but I really admit that this very film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then a this is an action film that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which isn't something that's all surprising as Zack Snyder does know how to film good action scenes for his films with the same thing being true for this film as well as all of the films action does look good however tho the issue is is that for an action film there's oddly to much action in the film so much so that when another one does start up we don't feel anything as nine times out of ten the previous one has just finished and were still trying to catch our breath but in fairness to this film tho alot of it's action scenes are really good with them doing a good job of showing just how strong that Superman and his foes are in this film with the best action in the whole entire film being the films third act as that's where we get to see the film just go balls to the wall insane with it's action with the action in that scene being filled to brim with cool moments which is something that you always want in an action scene as that's what people will react to the must but in fairness tho the third act fight does go on a tad bit to long tho as first we see Superman fighting Zods minions in Smallville before then going on to have a longer fight scene with Zod himself when you could have had the side characters taking on the minions by having the side characters using weapons that could kill them or even taking them on plane fight while Superman is first trying to destroy Zods machines and then Zod himself as that would have made that action scene alot more easier to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall out of the two films Superman 2025 is still the better film not only because it knew that Superman had to be this light hearted hopeful character but also because of the it knew not to be realistic because Superman himself is an alien but this film is still a really solid watch it just has alot of bad things in it that make it more of a chore and less of a joy to sit through in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then  i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official DC Universe fandom wiki page , the official DC Extended Universe fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
