Barbie Film Review

There are some brands that we all just know about due to how long that they've been going and because of that they become so engrained in pop culture. With the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today being a prime example of that as we've all grown up with the Barbie brand and therefor it did make sense that the brand would eventually get her very own live action movie and in 2023 that's exactly what we got and so then join me as I review the film that is so 2023 that it actually hurts with the film in question being called simply just "Barbie" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when she finds out that's malfunctioning Barbie and Ken set off from Barbieland to the real world to find out what's wrong with Barbie and fix it before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As while the main plot of the film is indeed really good and is a really refreshing to se in a film that's mostly made with kids in mind the issue stems from the fact that you can tell from how the characters to each other that this films plot is one that could only work in the 2020's as it's more focused on putting Barbie as a brand down rather then presenting an equal argument with this being something that will be touched on later on in this review as it is a big issue with the film with even Ken's side plot being pretty pointless in the grand scheme of things this is despite the fact that it does serve as a good way to give him something to do while the films plot is one that could b seen as being fun alot of the time it's also a plot that isn't as strong as it could have been as while the premise does have the potential to be a strong movie plot there's not alot there that makes it that strong once you remove all of the really obvious messaging that it ends up diluting the films plot as that's how obvious the film is with it's messaging in the film with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is one of this films producers Margot Robbie as Barbie , Ryan Gosling as Ken and America Ferrera as Gloria. Also starring in this film is Issa Rae as President Barbie , Alexandra Shipp as Writer Barbie , Emma Mackey as Physicist Barbie , Hari Nef as Dr. Barbie , Sharon Rooney as Lawyer Barbie , Ana Cruz Kayne as Judge Barbie , Ritu Arya as Journalist Barbie , Dua Lipa as Mermaid Barbie , Nicola Coughlan as Diplomat Barbie , Simu Liu as Ken / Rival Ken , Kingsley Ben-Adir as Basketball Ken , Ncuti Gatwa as Artist Ken , Scott Evans as Stereotypical Ken , John Cena as Kenmaid , Will Ferrell as The CEO Of Mattel , Michael Cera as Allan , Kate McKinnon as Weird Barbie and Helen Mirren as The Voice Of The Narrator.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances on this film which is something that's not really all that surprising given just who is starring in this film but at the same time it's also something that's completely surprising given the fact that this film does have alot of little known actors in it like for example Ncuti Gatwa who yes was known for starring in Sex Education but wasn't that big of named actor and yet he and alot of the little known actors that are in this film do turn in some really good performances in this film with them more then holding their own when it comes to acting with the more established stars with the best actor in this film being Margot Robbie as Barbie as she is just so much fun to watch in this film with it being pretty obvious that she fully understood just what she had to do to bring the character to live from a performance standpoint with her even looking like a real life Barbie doll as well which is something that really does make it easier to believe her as the character with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that al this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Framestore , Universal Production Partners , FuseFX and Chicken Bone Effects. Now then interms of what I pe4rsonally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with what makes this films CGI so good is the fact that you can't tell that CGI is being used however it might shock you to learn that alot of Barbieland is made up of CGI granted the film does have alot of practical effects in it as well with some of the Barbieland stuff being practical however it's mixed in really well with the CGI with it being hard to tell just what is a practical effect and what was created in a computer with the makers of the film even claiming that the film had no CGI in it when the film was first being released however that's just simply not true with all of this films CGI being things that you can't really see and that's what it should be used for as when you notice that something is obviously a CGI effect then nine times out of ten it means that that effect wasn't good in the first place as it took you out of the film or TV show that you were watching where as here with this film because of the fact that you can't tell what was done in a computer and what wasn't it means that you can't be taken out of the film as while there are some obvious effects in the film like when Barbie is floating down from her house there's obvious wire removal done but that's really it with the film only using effects when it has to and not when it wants to like it so easily could have done in a film like this but they don't and because of that the effects in this film do come across as being really good.

You can tell right away that this film was written in the 2020's as the film just has that stink of being the stereotypical "woke" film from that time period. With the film even having the character of Sasha refer to Barbie as a fascist which is something that a kid would never say let alone know the meaning to and top of that when you think about the Kens actually had a good point as they get no respect and no power in Barbieland with all of that going to all of the various Barbies and heck it's even treated as a bad thing when Ken does take over Barbieland when Barbie as a brand was always all about equal rights for women and part of that does mean admitting when your wrong and having Barbieland be rules entirely by the Barbies was wrong as in order to get true equality you need to except both sides and accept them for who they are both good and bad and in the case of this film as that does mean giving the Kens equal rights and while how Ken does go about getting that is indeed wrong it's the fact that he felt that he had to do it in the first place that makes it standout as while Barbie got no respect in the real world Ken didn't get in Barbieland with this film thinking that two wrongs make a right when it doesn't as just because Barbie got no respect in the real world doesn't mean that she has the power to stop someone else from getting the same respect in her own world and this is something that is a huge issue with the film as while Barbie has always been a girls brand it always knew to treat it's male fanbase with respect but due to when this film was being made the male characters get none of the respect that the female characters seem to get.

To give this film some credit it did do a good job of showing of the wide range of both Barbie and Ken dolls from there respective histories. Which was a nice touch and it was something that does go to show you that the makers of this film knew there Barbie doll history with them even having the actual house playsets be houses for various Barbie characters all throughout the film with another another nice touch being the fact that everything was made of plastic which was the same approach that the The Lego Movie took when it was building up it's world as everything in that film and in the other theatrically released Lego movies was all made of Lego and here it was something that did serve the film and did show off just how creative the makers of this film really were as it added to the film due to the fact that both Barbie and Ken are of course made of plastic and so of course that the world that they live in is made of plastic with there even being plastic waves and birds which was a nice little touch that helped to make the world of the Barbies feel more lived in as it would have been very easy for the makers of this film just have invented new Barbie and Ken dolls just for the movie and not use any of the actual playsets and not have everything be made of plastic and yet the fact that they did all of that does show you that the makers of this film really do go the extra mile in making sure that everything in this film was as authentic to the Barbie brand as it humanly possible with the only thing that could have made it more better being if the Barbies favourite song was "Barbie Girl" by Aqua but that's really it and even then that's not that big of a thing to not have in the movie as the film does a good job of getting across Barbies history even having Rhea Perlman play Barbies actual creator Ruth Handler in the film which was something that the makers of this film really didn't need to do.

Again to give the film some more credit it was interesting seeing the Barbie characters in the real world and heck it could even be argued that that's where the film got to be alot more fun as well. As while it would always have been fun seeing them interact with all of the other Barbie and Ken characters it was more fun seeing Barbie and Ken still being themselves but now being forced to interact with real world people with the only thing that lets this down is the fact that then both Barbie and Ken have to face real issues for things that they didn't do in the first place when it would have been more fun and more in character for them to be blissfully unaware of the troubles of the real world at least for the first half of the film as that would be a joke that could get old pretty quick but having them be this bliss unaware couple of characters who thinks that the real world is exactly like Barbieland does make for a fun and potentially funny idea however tho it is understandable why the makers of this film didn't go that route with the film as that is a joke that would have gotten really old really fast and therefor getting the characters back to Barbieland pretty quickly does make the most sense in a way even tho it would have been fun to see Barbie interacting with people in the real world alot more and heck you even got have gotten some celebrity cameos in the real world scenes as well just to sort of sell just how bug of a brand that Barbie really is but that is something that might have been seen as being overkill for a film that's stuff full to the brim with celebrities making cameos as various Barbie and Ken dolls tho so even tho it would have been nice to see Barbie interacting with celebrities it is understandable why the makers of this film didn't do that.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty four minuets and three seconds. Which while that might be a slightly longer running time that you'd think that a film like this one would have it's still a perfectly solid for this film to have as well with the film having just about the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but in saying that tho the only way that this film reaches that amount of running time is due to the plot with Ken which just wasn't needed in the film as having Barbie be in the central plot would have been more then enough to get this film up to a feature length running time with this film not even using it's running time all that wisely either as the plot of this film isn't that well developed with it being hard to tell just what the main plot of the film is even meant to be alot of the time with this even effecting the films characters as none of the films characters get any kind of character development which is something that wouldn't have been an issue if Barbie had been presented as this kind of air head character who didn't know any better but because she's not and is actually someone who is meant to be quite smart it means that it is a big issue as she along with all of the other Ken and Barbie characters getting no character development whatsoever with them all being the same coming out of the film as they were going into the film and all that does is show that the makers of this film couldn't be bothered to go all the way with the fact that the film was about a toy going into the real world as that is something that would have meant that they wouldn't have had to give the characters character development as they wouldn't have been the smartest characters out there in the first place with even the films real world characters getting no character development as well but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of really funny jokes in it which is something that was really quite surprising as you don't really think of hood and funny jokes when you think of Barbie as all you tend to think about are jokes that only little kids will find funny because of the fact that even tho this film was made with little kids in mind it was more geared towards adult women as well as little kids that means that we do get stuff that adults would find funny as well which is something that des intern make this films jokes more family friendly like the fact that everyone hates Alan something that kids won't know why it's funny but the adults will do as they would know that that character really didn't sell all that well in the first place with the best joke in the whole entire being the opening sequence with Barbie in her house as it was just funny seeing nothing poor out of a shower or seeing Barbie drink out of an empty cup which was a nice little joke as when you play with Barbie in real life of course there would be no water to come out of her cup or no water coming out of her shower and so it made that scene feel like you were playing with a real life Barbie doll with even Ken having a few good jokes as well like the "I'm Just Ken" song for example which is a really funny comedy joke or the fact that hos job is just beach which is just going to the beach and that's it bottom line this film is filled to the brim with good jokes that people young and old will all find to be really funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst his film does hit you over the head with it's messaging which I guess can make the film a tough one to watch regardless of your gender this is still a film that proves that movies that are based on toys can do well if you have the right creative behind them something which this film does seem to have in my freaking opinions anyways /at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
