Mean Girls 2004 Film Review

It's save to say that Lindsay Lohan is finally back in the limelight and becoming the star that those of us who grew up in the 2000's knew that she could become. As if she had kept her nose clean she would be a very big star by now with the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today being one of the two films that really helped to make her a major teenage star and so then join me as I review the film that tried and failed to make fetch happen with the film in question being called simply just "Mean Girls" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when new girl Cady and her new friends decide to bring down the schools popular girls they find out that it might be harder then what they first thought. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being fresh and original as this is a plot that we really haven't seen before now and while Cady's plot in the movie is a predictable plot the films overall plot is one that hasn't been done before and hasn't been done since this film and while the films plot could be a lot more focused as it does feel like that the plot of the film is all over the place alot of the time but at the same time tho that could also be the point of the film as this film is meant to take place over the entire school year and so there o course will be parts where the film doesn't really focus on it's main plot but when the film does focus on it's main plot that's when it gets to be alot of fun as it allows it's characters to be their fun and at times goofy selves as while this film would have benefitted from having a more deep and thought provoking plot it also doesn't need one in order for it to work either as part of what makes this films plot work is it's characters as without them we'd be left with a plot that whilst it was new back in the day could also be seen as being tired and worn out as well with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron , Rachel McAdams as Regina George and this films writer Tina Fey as Ms. Sharon Norbury. Also starring in this film is Amy Poehler as Mrs. George , Ana Gasteyer as Betsy Heron , Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners , Lizzy Caplan as Janis Ian , Daniel Franzese as Damian Leigh , Scrubs star Neil Flynn as Chip Heron , Jonathan Bennett as Aaron Samuels , Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith , Dwayne Hill as Coach Carr , Rajiv Surendra as Kevin Gnapoor and Tim Meadows as Mr. Ron Duvall.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films acting being alot more better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights this films acting should have been really bad as none of this films actors were big named stars at the point that this film was being made as such it would have been foolish for any of us to expect good acting from this film and yet that's exactly what we got with the fact that the films actors not being that well known oddly being something that works well enough for this advantage as it makes it easier to buy into these characters as then we can stop seeing the actor and start to see the character something that just wouldn't have been possible if this film had cast major well known stars in any of the main roles with the best actor in this film being both Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams as they both play there respective characters so well that it's hard to imagine quite literally anybody else playing their roles with it being quite clear as day that the two of them are having a blast playing their roles with all of this films being so perfectly cast in this film as well as all of this films actors are just so good in this film with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Character wise this film is just so good as all of this films characters are really well written as well being really well acted. As to put it frankly here all of this film main teenagers not only act like real teenagers but also talk like them to which does have the added effect of making them all the more likable as characters as well as they are being treated as real people and while yes granted teenagers are more often then not annoying people the teens in this film because of how realistic that there written come across as being more likable then anything else with all of this films characters having moments that showcase both there plus and negative sides like for example the films main heroine Cady she is sweet and naive girl but she can also get down and dirty as well something which she does take to extremes in this film and given her more naive nature she doesn't fully realise when she's acting like the very person that she's mean to be taking down until it's far to late and speaking of the queen bee Regina George is very spoiled rich kid in every single teen movie ever made and yet at the same time due to what she does go through in this film she comes out as being a more likable person because of it as she now knows what it's like to go through the exact same bullying that she herself has put the entire school through and it's things like this that not only make the characters authentic to actual teenagers but also make them feel more three dimensional as characters ad yet if you compare hem to the 2024 remake it's night and day as the remake didn't have them written like teenagers and instead had them written by someone in their forties who really is just guessing how a teenager in the modern day would act and speak.

This is something that really doesn't need saying but this film is one of those films that many people will know just from the quotes alone. As that's how instantly quotable that this film is with there being so many well known lines of dialog in this film that it really does make this film feel like that it was written by teens for teens as all of this films more well known lines of dialog and catch phrases do feel like things that teenagers would actually say and while this can and will be viewed as being a huge plus for the film we also have the fact that it makes the film oddly less fun to watch as you know all of the best bits in the film and you know when there coming whereas with a film like for example Monty Python And The Holy Grail there's lots of hidden details that make those rather ridiculous and silly lines all the more funny thus making the film all the more fun to watch in the first place where as here because of realistically that the film is being written there's no reason now to come back and rewatch this film as you already know where all of the best bits in the film and where all of the best quotes in the film are which again does speak volumes to how well written that this film but at the same time tho there should have been these smaller hidden details that add an extra layer meaning to the dialog and to the quotes as that would then give us the audience more of a reason to come back and rewatch this film more then people might already do in the first place but tho because of how the film is being written it means that the film can't have those hidden details in which in turn does cause the film to loose any reply value that it might have had as afterall why would want to watch a film where you know were all of the best and most quotable lines of dialog are.

While this film does get alot of praise and rightfully so as this is a really good film where the film does loose marks is in Cady's character arc. As she goes from someone who is this sweet and innocent kind of girl next door kind of character to someone who becomes the very thing that she despises and that's something that's rather predictable as alot of teen comedies where the main character is a girl have those kinds of plots lines and as such it does make it fairly easy to work out where this plot is going to right from the second that it starts up which does make it a slog to sit through as your just left waiting for the moment where the characters world comes crashing down so that they can learn a really basic life lesson and that's it and that's exactly what we got with Cady's story and yet with the makers of this film putting alot of thought and effort into quite literally anything else in the film you'd have thought that this character arc would be given just as much thought and attention but nope as it feels like an afterthought that was thrown in at the last second so that the makers of this film can say that they have a character learning a life lesson and that's really it which isn't a good enough reason to have a character arc in this film with this being made all the more worse when you take into account that all of the other characters arcs in this film are actually fresh and different with Gretchen learning that it's OK not to be a people pleaser and Karen learning that it's OK to be the dumb one of the group all of which are character arcs that haven't been done before with the same thing also being true for Janis's arc as well as she learns that going out for revenge all the time isn't always the best thing to do with all of there arcs being fresh and different and yet also true to their characters and while Cady's arc feels true to her character it's also one that's been done to death.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty six minuets and fifty three seconds. Which to be fair to this film is perfectly running time for this film to have with the film even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but in saying that tho this film really doesn't use it's running time in one respect that being the fact that the plot isn't that well developed as the film does at times drop it's plot all together all in the guise of having the plot take place all throughout the school year and yet by doing that it does make it harder for us the audience to decide on if we like this plot or not with the film adding in pointless scenes with Cady's parents that add nothing to the overall plot of the film which wouldn't be a bad thing if they added anything to Cady's character arc but they don't which makes all of there scenes feel pointless in this film with there scenes if anything feeling alot more like filler when this is a film that really doesn't need any kind of filler scenes as all the makers would have to do to fill out this films running time is just focus on the plot of the film alot more and that's it as that's when the film gets to be more interesting but thankfully the films characters don't suffer due to this tho as they are all really well developed with all of them feeling alot more like three dimensional characters with all of them having flaws that they have to overcome in the film and all of them having very well defined personalities and personality traits as well which is something that does help to make all of this films all the more memorable the what they all had any right to be but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With alot of this films jokes very early on in the film being some laugh out loud funny jokes that are so well known that the film is more well known for those jokes then it is it's story as that's just how well known all of this films jokes are with the characters of Janis and Damian getting alot of really good and funny lines with both there actors really making the most of what little screen time that they have and because of that they get to have some really funny and memorable lines of dialog with the film having so many good jokes in it that it really is hard to say just what the best of joke of the film is as really all of this films jokes could make that claim and it would be totally justifiable with what makes this films jokes so good being down to two things the first one being the fact that they feel like thigs that teenagers would actually say and the second one of which being the fact that they all feel like things that those characters would say or do as well thus making this films jokes feel like there very character driven jokes and to this film credit it does know when to stop telling jokes as there's not a single joke told all throughout the third act of the film which is something that does make sense as that's when the film is meant to be it's most tense with the jokes only returning when the film is about to end and that's it with all of this films jokes being some really jokes in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall it's clear as day that this film is and always will be ten times better then the 2024 remake due to the fact that that film has been forgotten about and people even twenty one years later still talk about this film as that's just how good that this film where as the 2024 film just feels like a shell of this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7/5 out of 10 from me.
