Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl Film Review

The Pirates franchise is one that has seen so many misses in recent years with alot of the more recent films being flops at the box office and Disney themselves are now struggling to get another one of the ground. However that wasn't always the case as back in 2003 there was a Pirates film that was not only a hit at the box office but was also a really good film in it's own right and so then join me as I review the film that launched an entire franchise with the film in question being called simply just "Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when the love of his life is kidnapped by Pirates hell bent on finding some certain tressure it's up to blacksmith Will Turner and rogue Pirate Captain Captain Jack Sparrow to save her. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really goo with this films plot being one that not only holds up really well all of these later but also goes to show you that these films can have good plots to them as alot of them especially the latter sequels feel so generic from a plot point of view but here tho because of the fact that the film adds a supernatural element to it it means that you have no idea as to where the plot of the film is going because anything can and in this case does happen which is something that makes what could have been a really generic and bad plot seem all the more new again as it's taking the elements that are in alot of Pirates movies but putting new spins on them with that one simple thing also being the thing that makes the plot of the film all the more fun then what it really should have been as by all rights this should have been a really dull plot but because of the fact that the plot to any pirate film can be fun and with this film putting new spins on the familiar plot tropes found in those movies this films plot comes across as being all the more fun because of it with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow , Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner. Also starring in this film is Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann , Jack Davenport as Norrington , Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs , Treva Etienne as Koehler , David Bailie as Cotton , Lee Arenberg as Pintel , Mackenzie Crook as Ragetti , Isaac C. Singleton Jr. as Bo'sun , Martin Klebba as Marty , Michael Berry Jr. as Twigg , Zoe Saldaña as Anamaria and Jonathan Pryce as Governor Weatherby Swann.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With alot of this films actors turning in some pretty decent performances which is something that's not all really all that surprising as alot of this films actors are a bunch of rally actors in their own right but at the same time given that nobody would have blamed any of this films actors if they chose to phone in there performance in this film it is still shocking that we still somehow managed to get good performances out pf this films actors in the first place as typically pirates movies don't really demand good or even great acting in them which is something that the latter sequels to this films would also have and yet in this film it's opposite that's true as all of this films actors turn in some good performances in their own right with the films best actor in the whole entire film being none other then Johnny Depp himself as he was simply born to play Captain Jack Sparrow with him always being on the verge of being drunk but always being crazy which is something that does work well for his performance with it being made clear that this films director Gore Verbinski really does know how to get a good performance out of all of his actors something which once again is proven in this film with this films acting also being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Boy Wonder Visual Effects , CIS Hollywood , Digiscope , Gray Matter FX , Method Studios and Pacific Title. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in al honesty really good and while yes granted this films CGI isn't as good as the effects that we have today but that's more due to the fact that the technology that we have today when it comes to CGI just wasn't there in 2003 and so the makers of this film had to make do with what they had to be fair o them they do make the most of what they had in the first place as this films CGI doesn't hold up really well in alot of places with the skeleton crew looking really good with even the drink that Barbosa drinks when i his skeletal form looking really good and oddly creepy as we get to the drink go right through him but for every good effect the film does have alot more bad looking effects in it as some of the CGI boats don't look all that good with the same thing also being true for when the film swaps out it's characters for digital doubles of them all of which do make alot of the films bad looking effects standout all the more and yet the films quality of effects is still pretty high which is something that does make alot of sense given just how is working on this film as alot of this films effects companies are known for turning in some really high quality work and that's exactly what we get in this film as well.

There's one thing that I think alot of people can all agree on and that's the fact that the romance between both Will and Elizabeth is the weakest aspect not only of these first three films but this film as well. As nobody ever goes to watch a pirates movie regardless of if it's apart of this franchise or not for the romance as we go to see some swashbuckling action and that's really it with it being the action where the makers of this film quite clearly put all of there effort as the romance between the two of them is just so dull and lifeless with neither character not only having much in the way of personality but both the actors and the characters don't have any chemistry together with each other as they come across more as being friends then potential lovers and if the makers of this film wanted to get us to buy into their romance then they should have made sure to hire actors that have that kind of chemistry with each other with it not being helped by the fact that neither of the two characters spend alot of time together before the main plot of the film really kicks off which then makes it next to impossible to buy into their romance as we don't get to see the characters together alot of the time with the very few times that they are together mainly being either one of them rescuing the other as they don't spend the time to actually talk about there relationship thus making it all the more lifeless then what it is in the first place with this being something that could have been fixed by having the characters spend more time together before the main plot of the film really kicked in as that then would give us the audience to see just what these two characters are like as a couple and give us a reason to want to see them together which is somethin that would have helped the film out by quite a bit.

It's in this films supernatural aspect that makes this film all the more creepy not only then what you'd expect from a live action Disney film but also from a pirate movie all the together. With this films supernatural aspect not only being so good that the film could be construed as being a kid friendly action comedy horror film but also something that does make this film standout from any other pirate film out there as alot of them did play it relatively safe with even the ride that this film is based off of also kind of playing things safe as well and yet it's due to the fact that we have this supernatural aspect that makes the film feel more adult then the rest of this films do as we get to see alot of creepy imagery like the bones of the characters and the skin decaying on the some characters all of which are things that Disney just straight up won't allow in the rest of the films and rightfully so as they can be pretty scary for kids to see and yet for some reason they gave it the OK to be included in this film with one of the things that helps to sell you on the supernatural aspect of the film being the fact that it's explained why the evil pirates are the way that they are in a way that does make sense not only for there characters at this point in time but also for the more supernatural tone that this film is also quite clearly going for as well as it helps to make this film standout from all of the other films in this franchise which became not only more cartoony as the franchise went on but also alot more family friendly as well with the latter films even dropping the supernatural aspect of this film all together which just doesn't work as it's that aspect that not only made this franchise as good as it was as it's something that we hadn't seen in a pirates film before this film but also made it stand out from other pirates films as well.

This film is an action comedy film and while the films action got quite alot of attention from the makes of this film. The films comedy got just as much attention from the makers of this film as well as this film has plenty of laugh out loud moments in it with nearly all of this films jokes not only mostly coming from Johnny Depp but also working as well with Captain Jack Sparrow having alot of the films more gutbustingly funny moments in the film which is something that does work well for his character as his character is nearly always drunk as a skunk and is pretty much crazy and so it therefor does make alot of sense that he would interrupt an action scene to tell a joke with none of his jokes really undercutting the tension of the scene something which alot of Marvel Cinematic Universe films are guilty of doing with the films best joke also being one of it's dumbest but in a good way as during the films third act he needs to get from Barbosa's ship back to his own and he does it by getting a hold of the rope that causes another pirate who was holding the rope to hit the side of the boat and fall into the sea with Jack just going "oops" which is such a stupid joke but it's the fact that it's so stupid that makes it work as this is a character that would do something like that and because of that it's something that does become all the more funnier as a result of it and heck Jack is more funnier then all of the films comedic relief characters as there just trying to hard to be funny where as Johnny Depp as that character is allowed to go over the top and therefor because funny without even trying to be as his character is allowed to basically be this over the top character due to the fact that he's crazy and is just doing things just for the sake of doing them where as with the comedic relief characters they just come across as trying to hard to be funny where as Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in this film just simply is funny.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twenty three minuets and fourteen seconds. Which even for one of these Pirates Of The Caribbean movies is still quite along running time to have and while yes granted this film does have more then plot there to cover that amount of running time it doesn't really use it's running time all that wisely as it doesn't develop it's plot all that well with the plot coming across as being a bit of mess at times as the film doesn't take the time that it really needed to to focus on the main plot of the film with the film instead being more interested on the dull romance between Will and Elizabeth and making it seem all the more important then what it actually is which does make this films plot feel alot more like an afterthought but when it does get focused on and developed it is an interesting plot to have in this film with even the films characters not even being that well developed with the best example of this being Barbosa who despite coming across as being a very likable villain as he does a motive that makes him a very sympathetic character he's not that well developed as a character and yet the makers of this film expect us to hate him and yet they make him a really sympathetic character for small portions of the film and yet just one scene later they'll have him acting like the villain say what you will about any of the films sequels but they at least wrote him consistently and developed him as such something that just cannot be said for this film and even Norrington who is meant to be the films secondary villain doesn't get that much development either as we don't get to find out why he hates pirates in the first place but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featued / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which is something that does make alot of sense as for the first three films at least they always had some really good action in them with the action in this film not being as over the top as it would get in say Dead Man's Chest for example which was quite shocking to see with them not really doing anything that's that crazy or insane with the films action being grounded in some form of reality with the best action in the film being the truly epic third act as we get to see Barbosa's crew of pirates in there skeletal form go up against this ragtag group of Norrington and his crew and Jack's crew as well with both Jack , Elizabeth and Will helping to try and take down Barbosa which does result in what can best be described as a really fun filled action scene with it being at times quite creepy due to the fact that we get the insides of the skeletal crew but also really exciting as well and when you pair that with the main Pirates Of The Caribbean theme it results in an action scene that more then holds up really well all of these later which is also something that could also be said for the rest of this films action as well as all of this films action is just as fun to watch then the films third act as all of this films action is just really fun to watch with any of them having the ability to make for a good ride at any of the Disney parks or more then likely a stunt show as that's just how good that this films action really well and truly is in my freaking opinion anyways / at least.

Overall out of the original three Pirates Of The Caribbean movies the best one is still Dead Man's Chest but this one is the more fun out of the three and also the one that could be considered the most dark out of all of the films due to the creepy imagery that it shows and it all comes together to create a truly wonderful film that more then holds up even all of these years later in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and a such that really dies mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the mages that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Pirates Of T Caribbean fandom wiki page and the official Disney fandom wiki page. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Disney fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Disney fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Disney fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
