Kevin & Perry Go Large Film Review

Whenever there is a film adaptation of a TV show one of the most common tropes for the film to do is to have the characters go on holiday. As that's an easy way to expanding the world of the show in question with the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today being one such a film as it takes alot of the characters from a TV show and has them go on holiday abroad and so then join me as I review the film that sees the title characters trying to become superstar DJs with the film in question being called simply just "Kevin & Perry Go Large" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when they accidentally foil a bank robbery teenage best friends Kevin and Perry decide to go on holiday to achieve their goal of becoming superstar DJs and being popular with girls. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho it was rather on the weak side as it did get pretty hard to actually tell just what the main plot of this film as even supposed to be for a good while of the films running time but when there are scenes that do focus on the main plot of the film that's when it's becomes entertaining as they get to do stuff that they just wouldn't be able to do in an episode of the show which is the perfect reason to do this film in the first place but at the same time tho you really do need to have a strong plot to fully justify in doing the film in the first place and that's something that this film just doesn't have as this very easily could have been the plot to one of the sketches from the original show or even a special episode of the show itself as outside of the Ibiza setting there's nothing that makes plot feature film worthy as it just feels like something that would be the plot of special and not something that you'd expect to see in a feature film with it being a really obvious plot so much so that you can tell what all of the major plot beats are going to be and sure enough this fil hits them all in the exact same order that you all think that they would do with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is this films co-writer and producer Harry Enfield as Kevin and Kathy Burke as Perry. Also starring in this film is Laura Fraser as Candice , Tabitha Wady as Gemma , Louisa Rix as Mum , James Fleet as Dad , Badi Uzzaman as The Shopkeeper , Sam Parks as The Policeman , Kenneth Cranham as The Vicar , Mark Tonderai as The Record Store Boss , Patsy Byrne as An Old Lady , Amelia Curtis as Sharon , Christopher Ettridge as The Postman , Frank Harper as The Armed Robber , Rupert Vansittart as The Bank Manager , Steve O'Donnell as Big Baz , Paul Whitehouse as Bouncer 1 , James Dark as A Clubber , James Murray as Candice's Adonis , Steve McFadden as Bouncer 2 and Rhys Ifans as Eyeball Paul.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With alot of this films actors turning in some really good performances which is something that really does make sense on two accounts the first of which being the fact that a small amount of this films actors are reprising their roles from the show and had been playing their respective characters for up to six years at this point in time and therefor they really would know how best to perform there respective and the second of which is the fact that alot of this films actors are a bunch of really good and funny actors in their own right and there for would have been turning in a good performance in this film anyway as there just that good of an actor but at the same time tho there some actors in this film that aren't that good and it really does show that this films director Ed Bye didn't really know how to direct his actors alot of the time as those of them that aren't coming over from the show alot of the time just feel lost and unsure of themselves where as with the actors from the show it's the opposite that's true with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just the say lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which s something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

The characters in this film are cartoonish in nature but this is something that could be argued works for the film. As this films characters are meant to be over the top with both Kevin and Perry being the stereotypical teenagers but seen through the eyes of the then nineties Great Britain and as such they act how every parent at that time thought that a teenager would act only now it's played for laughs not in a mean spirited way but in a way that we the audience can also laugh at the character and not with them in contrast to this we have Kevin's Parents who are viewed as the stereotypical suburban London couple with his Mum being more supportive of Kevin and his dreams of becoming a DJ and his Dad being more of a high strung realist who is just fed of Kevin and his behaviour something which does bring him into conflict with Kevin quite early on in the film and Perry is the kind of character who is just happy going with the flow with him being Kevin's sidekick and more often then not just going along with what he says but those are the only good characters in the movie and even then that's due to the fact that we've had countless years of them on TV to get a good idea of just who they are as characters with the films more newer characters being either female versions of Kevin and Perry as is the case with Gemma and Candice are being so cartoonishly evil that it's hard to take him seriously which is the case with Eye Ball Paul and while that is something that does work for this character as a character like him should be over the top but he also should have been scary a few times as well as that would then balance out his more over the op nature.

This film is based off of the character Kevin The Teenage who first appeared on the show Harry Enfield's Television Programme where he was a little brother before then becoming a teenager in that shows sequel series Harry Enfield And Chums. Both of these where sketch comedy shows with the sketches for his first show being based around the fact that he was nothing more then an annoying little kid brother who would frequently interrupt his older brother when he was with a girl and in the second series his sketches were more based around what adults think teenagers are like but done in a loving way with even some of the more memorable aspects of the character carrying over into this film like the fact that he hurls abuse at his parents over being asked to do the most simplest of tasks and heck the character was so popular that adults would even call there teenagers a Kevin if they started to act like teenagers with even the last episode of the show ending just how the first episode of Harry Enfield And Chums began as instead of Kevin turning into a teenager we now see him turn into a nice respectable young man but here's the thing tho it will always be hard to turn a character that was only meant to be appear in sketches no more then five minuets long into a character that can support a feature length film as there would become a point where the character would start to become annoying if done wrong which is very sadly the case here as both Kevin and Perry for that matter do start of as being likable dimwitted characters but the more that the film goes on the more that they stop being likable and start to become annoying characters.

This film does gave the typical third break up between best friends which is in a lot of films with best friends in them. With it not really being something that works here in this film as while yes the films main characters were really well known at the time of this films release it still doesn't feel right as these characters are two dumb to go there separate ways with there not really being any kind of build up that something lie this should have had where as if you look at The Inbetweeners Movie for example yes it was typical that two of the four boys would have a fight with each other and vow not to be friends with the other but there was also tension built up all throughout the film and so when a moment like that did indeed happen it felt natural and organic where as here the only kind of build up that we get is Perry secretly filming Kevin's parents in bed together and then unknowingly leaving the camera around for Eye Ball Paul to see it and mock Kevin for it infront of the pair of them not once but twice with it being the first time that causes the rift in their friendship which yes granted is a solid thing for these characters to get mad at but at the same time tho there really should have been more time dedicated to making it work and making it feel real as the people that we are friends with high school and through our teenage years aren't always the people that we stay friends with in our adult years and that is something that could have been toyed with in this moment but because it's not something that was that well built up in the first place it's not something that can have that big of an emotional impact on us the audience either when it really should have done.

This film does give the boys a romance which is something that does feel right for this film as the boys have always been dreaming abut getting girlfriends. Therefor having them finally get them in this film does feel right as it is something that those who did watch Harry Enfield And Chums would have wanted the boys to do as they would have grown up with these characters but at the same time there still needs to be something in the girls personalities outside of the fact that there just female versions of the boys as that just makes the makers of this film seem lazy while it does help that all four of the characters involved in the romance do have chemistry with each other to the point where you do by all four of them as two couples there's nothing to the girls characters tho as really any girl in this movie could have been the girl friend characters and it would have made sense but the fact that they want us to believe that these two girls and the perfect matches for the boys and yet give us no reason to buy into the romance as the two sets of characters barely spend any amount of screen time together before the big third act where as again in The Inbetweeners Movie we see all four girls spend alot of time with all four of the boys even seeing how three of the boys mess it all up for themselves and there for it makes the romance seem more believable where as here while yes the film might be satirizing teenagers that doesn't mean that they had to make a romance that doesn't feel believable and alot of that does also come down to the fact that the girls really aren't given much in the way of personalities as that would have helped to have made the girls stand out and seem all that more appealing to the boys.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty one minuets and thirty seven seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running time that you'd expect a film like this one to have and to the films credit it really does have the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho this film really doesn't use it's running tome all that wisely either as it doesn't develop it's plot all that well with the film instead feeling more like a series of very loosely connected sketches when it's England but when it gets to Ibiza it tries to connect it's plot a little bit better but still fails to do so for one reason or another with the film not even bothering to give us that many actually likable characters as while Kevin is meant to the normal teenager it's how he acts to his parents that does make him unlikable which fair enough might be the point of his character and while that might work for a two minuets comedy sketch it's not something that works for a feature length film with really the only three actually likable characters in the whole being Kevin's Mum and Dad and Perry and that's really is as Perry is just to adorable to be hated and the parents have to put up with Kevin and his abuse towards them with Eye Ball Paul making for a great villain as he's a DJ with a really huge ego who abuses anyone and everyone who works for him including the boys which is something that this films does really well as it's really good at making really unlikable characters but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However tho at the same time alot of this films comedy wasn't all that good either as alot of it was gross out comedy which is great for one or jokes but alot of this films jokes or exactly like that and there it looses all meaning when that's every single kind of joke that you make in the film with there being few jokes in this film that aren't like that at all with oddly enough one of them being the best joke in the film as when Kevin starts to write in his dairy and explain to us the audience his wishes and who his friend Perry is and all about his parents we then go on to see that he actually wasn't writing in his dairy at all something that the films narration had led us to believe rather he's just drawing a picture of the woman he's got a poster of in his wall and that's it and that's a good joke as it lets us know who all of the films main characters are and what there like whilst also being a really smart joke that feels oddly in character for Kevin with there being another such joke a little bit later on in the film as after he's threatened to run away from home after his parents refused to pay to go to Ibiza the film then cuts to Kevin crying outside only for it to be revealed that he never actually ran away at all as he only went as far as the end of his parents drive way with those two jokes being a good example of just how good this films jokes could be if they were more smartly written and not filled to the brim with gross out humor in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this might have been the final thing that these characters have ever appeared in that doesn't make this a good film as it's not but on the other hand it's really not all that of a bad film either as this film knows full well that it's bad a film and isn't afraid to be exactly that which is something that does make this film really all the more fun to watch because of it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this film really does earn itself a grand old score of score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Wikipedia and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
