Carry On At Your Convenience Film Review

The Carry On films are one of the most underrated British films out there as when people think of British films they don't really think of any of the Carry On films. Since i've taken to spotlighting alot more of these films in recent months I thought that i'd take a look at another one of these films as even lesser known films do deserve to be talked about just as much as say the James Bond films or even the newest big budget blockbuster and so then join me as I review the film that is the first Carry On film to actually loose money at the box office with the film in question being called simply just "Carry On At Your Convenience" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when the workers at a toilet making factory go on strike the bosses try to get them back to work in order to fill out a big order. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho this films plot is quite clearly not the franchises best plot as it just feels like the makers of this film are going through the motions and not really putting in any effort to make the plot of the film feel relevant to the franchises more working class audience something that the franchise always did really well and yet in this film none of that is there and while the Carry On films have always had some fairly weak plots to them they were always like that because of that they had a rather wacky premise and set up to them where as here they don't have any pf that going for them and as a result of that is the fact that this film really should have had a plot that got alot more focus and attention as instead the film just picks up and drops off it's plot for large portions of it's running time which is something that does really make it hard to tell what the actual plot of this film is even meant to be in the first place with the plot of this film also being not really rather entertaining and nor is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Sid James as Sid Plummer , Kenneth Williams as WC Boggs and Charles Hawtrey as Charles Coote. Also starring in this film is Hattie Jacques as Beattie Plummer , Joan Sims as Chloe Moore , Bernard Bresslaw as Bernie Hulke , Kenneth Cope as Vic Spanner , Jacki Piper as Myrtle Plummer , Richard O'Callaghan as Lewis Boggs , Patsy Rowlands as Hortense Withering , Davy Kaye as Benny , Bill Maynard as Fred Moore , Renée Houston as Agatha Spanner , Marianne Stone as Maud , Margaret Nolan as Popsy , Geoffrey Hughes as Willie , Hugh Futcher as Ernie , Simon Cain as A Barman and Amelia Bayntun as Mrs Spragg.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With all of the Carry On regulars turning in some really good performances in this film however they all turn in the exact kind of performance that you expect from them at this point in time which is something that not only does make alot of sense given the fact that alot of them are playing the same type of character that they had been playing for years at this point in time but at the same time tho it is something that does hinder the kind of performances that these actors can and do give in not only in these films but in other projects as well but given that the script for these films are usually written within a few weeks at best it does make sense that alot of them would be playing the same character as that's what works for these films the fact that you know exactly what your going to get with each and every film but that doesn't mean that the this films actors couldn't have been given the chance to play other types of characters as that is something that would have made this films acting alot more better then what it already is with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this film actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does hurt the over quality of the acting that's in this very film.

What does work well enough in this films favor is the fact that Joan Simms basically plays the Barbera Windsor type of character. In that she gets alot of the films more raunchier and cheekier jokes which is honestly refreshing to see as that was a role that Joan Simms herself did use to play in these films and so to see her going back to play that type of character dies prove that she could still play that type of character despite her playing a more motherly figure type of role in other Carry On films with her banter with Sid James further going on to prove that not only can Sid James have chemistry with anyone but that the two of them do have great chemistry together so much so that alot of the Carry On both before and after this one would frequently pair the two of them together as it was just something that worked really well but what would have worked better in this films favor was if they cut down on the more cheeky type of jokes that they have her character say as it just wasn't something that the Carry On films were known for doing as these films were more family friendly films that adults could take there little kids to and both of them would find something funny about the film where as not only with this film but also alot of the more recent Carry On film they started to push the boat out a bit by including more risque humor and by having more risque type of characters and while Joan Simms is great at playing those types of characters she won't ever top Barbera Windsor when it comes to playing those type of characters.

One of if not perhaps the biggest audience market for these films was easily the working class and yet the very people that this film makes it's villains is the working class people. By having the very people that go on strike be portrayed as being dumb people where as the ones in charge are not only being presented as being the heroes of the film but are also meant to be alot more smarter then the working class employees which does say that if you want to be smart and liked by all that you should keep quite and just do whatever your boss forces you to do no matter how much it goes against the rules set in place by your own trade union with this just proving that you don't want to make the people who made your films hit films as this film took five years to make back it's money and was only done after the rights to show the film on TV had been sold to various broadcasters and yet if the makers of this film wanted to make there money back on this film alot more quicker then all they had to do was just two simple things the first was make the film actually good as that would mean that more people would go and watch the film numerous times and the second of which is appeal to the same working class audience that's been with you from the very start and not make them feel like the enemy as by doing that there going to tell you exactly how they feel by not turning up to see your film which is something that they did and by doing both of those things then this film could have been considered a Carry On classic but they didn't and a a result of that s the fact that we end up with just an average Carry On film and really nothing more then that.

While this film does have alot of things going against it it does have a few things that work in the films favour. Like the fact that all of the regular Carry On actors are simply a joy to watch in this film with it being just as fun to see them all quite clearly having a blast in this film and the second thing is the fact that this film despite alot of it's faults really is just a fun filled to watch which is something that could also be said for alot of the Carry On films as well but where this is a film that really does require you t switch of your brain and just enjoy and there's nothing wrong with that as not every film needs you to be able to think to enjoy as sometimes just being a dumb comedy film is more then enough to make for an entertaining film as there alot of dumb moments in this films and while not all of them get a big laugh out of people alot of them do work  for the more crazy and dare I say it Looney Tunes-esique tone that this film is quite easily going for as this film is basically a live action Looney Tunes short only with a feature length running time and that's really it and just like with the Looney Tunes shorts you don' really need your brain to enjoy as all you need to do is just sit back and watch the characters act how you know that they would act and still get some laughs out of you and while what kind of laughs you'll get out of this film will depend on what kind of jokes that you find to be funny it doesn't change the fact that sometimes just being a dumb movie is all you need to be and that is something that this movie is in the best way possible and it's something that really does work well enough in this films favor as it shows that the Carry On films are meant to be nothing more then pure family fun filled films for the whole family to watch.

For some reason the makers of this film don't really give there characters any kind of development outside of the one personality trait that there all given. Which is something that could also be argued is true for alot of the other Carry On films as well but where as those films have the charm needed to pull it off here in this film tho none of that is present as the film really isn't charming or cute enough to get with that fact and as a result of that is the fact that us the audience are now forced to focus alot more on the films characters and yet the makers of this film don't really bother to give the characters alot if any kind of character development with us knowing as much about the characters at the end of the film then we did at the start of the film which in turn does make it hard for us all to form any kind of connection with the characters outside of the fact that Sid James is playing one of the characters and that's really it and even then that only works if know who Sid James is with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film thought that they were going to make alot of money off this film anyway and so they just didn't bother to put in alot of effort into making there characters more memorable where as with films like Carry On Camping and Carry On Spying whilst you won't remember the characters names what you do remember is what the characters were like where as here with this film it's the opposite that's true and that's because of the fact that regular Carry On screen writer Talbot Rothwell was most likely either not caring or franchise producer Peter Rogers just told him that they were going to make alot of money from this film either way the films characters do suffer because of it as not one of them are interesting characters with even Joan Simms herself admitting in her own dairy written for the first day of filming that she wasn't quite big on the film and she's one of the best aspects of the film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty six minuets and seven seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for these film and while this film really does have more then enough plot to really cover that amount of running time what it doesn't do is use it's running time all that wisely as the films plot really isn't as developed as the other Carry On films so much so that it is hard to get fully engaged with this films plot despite the fact that this film doesn't require you to use your brain in order to enjoy it and it doesn't really fully develop any of it's characters either with it bein hard to form a connection with any of this films cocharacters be it because you hare them or because you love them and because of that what should have been  home run for these film instead just falls flat on there face as the things that did make the Carry On films work in the past either aren't present in this film or aren't given as much focus and attention as they were in the other Carry On films like the fact that people didn't like the fact that Sid James's characters usually lust after much younger women regardless of if he's happily married man or jot but that's part of the charm with his characters with him not even being presented as the hero in ay of those situations but because people complained about it here he's a loyal family man which just isn't that fun to watch and thus his character in this film just isn't as fun to watch with it being like this for alot of the aspects of the Carry On films as this film is lacking alot of what it was that made these films so well known and so well beloved by the British public in the first place but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us n this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Yes it's not the Carry On team at there best but it's also not them at there worst either either as they are still trying to tell some decent jokes in this film but the issue is that alot of the jokes that they are telling are just warn out jokes like there's only so many times that you can hear Joan Simms say a risque line of dialog in this film before it starts to get painfully unfunny which for this film happens with her second or third scene in the movie as the movie has a long canteen scene where all she does is make those kinds of jokes and that's when it became really unfunny and while the film does get some laughs thanks to the Kenneth Williams and Patsy Rowlands the film just on the whole just isn't that funny as it setting would allow them to be as this film is mainly se at a toilet factory and yet they don't have alot of fun with that setting instead just playing it far to safe for there own good while the always funny Sid James does get a few laughs early on in the film they come few and far between later on in the film but when this film does hit the mark with it's jokes it is something that could be really funny like the fact that the strike at the end of the film only ends because the mother of the one of called for and started the strike in the first place comes in and not only calls him out for stopping all of the females from returning to work but then just embarrasses him infront of everyone there is a funny idea as is the fact that that same person only changes his ways because of the fact that a pretty woman has started working at the same place as him which again is a really funny idea in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this film which was known as Carry On Round The Bend in America isn't so funny that it will drive people round the bend it's also not as bad as some of the other Carry On films with this film not only trying to please the wrong people which in this case where bosses and CEO's instead of the working class person but it's also really just not as funny as some of the other and quite frankly better Carry On films where as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then interms of where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Carry On fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
