Barb Wire Film Review
We are now living in an age where pretty much every female character under the sun is getting a movie adaptation. However that wasn't always the case as even way back in the nineties you would struggle to find A comic book movie let alone one that's being led by a female character which makes it all the more sad when you realise that when you did get one then they most likely ended up as bad as the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today and so then join me as I review the film that really does prove that Pamala Anderson really should just stay away from playing superheroes with the film in question being called simply just "Barb Wire" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a group of resistance fighters come to her for help Barb must try and find some contact lenses that will allow the user to escape undetected. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I inn all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad however tho at the exact same time tho this film plot really isn't all that good as it's the kind of plot that you'd expect to find in an episode of Stripperella and not the kind of plot that you'd expect to be in major motion picture as to put it bluntly this films plot in it's current state isn't strong enough to support an entire movie but it is strong enough to support an episode of a TV show and that's really it with this not really being helped by the fact that not much actually happen to actually progress the plot in any meaningful way with the films plot just coming and going as it pleases and as a result of that is the fact that this films plot really doesn't capture your attention and while this film might have gained a cult following over the years that's still not an excuse for having a plot that's not as good as it could have been with the plot of this film also not really being really rather entertaining nor is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Pamela Anderson as Barbara "Barb Wire" Kopetski and Temuera Morrison as Axel Hood. Also starring in this film is Victoria Rowell as Dr. Corrina "Cora D" Devonshire , Jack Noseworthy as Charlie Kopetski , Xander Berkeley as Chief Alexander Willis , Udo Kier as Curly , Andre Rosey Brown as Big Fatso , Nicholas Worth as Ruben Tannenbaum , Clint Howard as Schmitz , Jennifer Banko as Spike and Steve Railsback as Colonel Victor Pryzer.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film as bad as you'd expect from a film like this one to have. As let's be honesty here people a film like this one was never going to have that good acting in it and while yes there are some actors in this film that do indeed try to turn in a good performance like Temuera Morrison as Axel Hood and Victoria Rowell as Dr. Corrina "Cora D" Devonshire but everyone else is either OK at best as is the case for the vast majority of this films actors or in the case of it's leading lady just straight up bad and while it is understandable by the producers of this film chose to cast Pamela Anderson in this movie as Baywatch was big at the time she just doesn't seem like the person who is a touch person which is exactly the kind of person that a role like this one required and as a result of that is the fact that it comes across as her trying to hard to play a tough person when what you needed was somebody who was naturally a tough as nails person or someone who could give off that impression with the acting not really being helped by the fact that none of this films actors have any kind of chemistry with each other at all and with the acting in this film also not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
To put it bluntly this film really does feel like it's trying to hard to be a cool and edgy film where as something like The Craft which came out just a few days after this film simply was cool and edgy. With this film having a Mad Max vibe to it without really understanding why that look works so well for those film where as here it just comes across as them trying to hard by copying what had already worked before hand and while yes the comic books that this is based off of might also have had a post apocalyptic look to it as but it also more then likely wasn't trying to hard and actually did something new and interesting with it's setting where as here you could literally replace any scene in this movie with a scene from the Mad Max films and people wouldn't be able to tell the difference and yet here it's also not something that not only extends to it's setting either as every aspect about this film just feels like that it's trying to hard to be cool and edgy even by having Pamela Anderson mumble most of her lines and have a scowl on her face alot of the time in a vain attempt to make her look tough and hard without actually realising that all there doing is making it obvious that the makers of this film quite clearly hadn't read the comic books that this is based off because of if they did then they would have realised that not only is Pam wrong for this role but every approach that there making in this film just doesn't wok at all.
For some strange reason even tho this film is already based off of a comic book which is also called Barb Wire Dark Horse Comics still not only decided to make a comic book adaptation of the movie adaptation of the comic book but also lie on front cover by saying that it's smash hit movie. Even after just very quickly glancing at the movie comic book it looks nothing like the movie with none of the actors likenesses being represented in the book heck even Pam herself isn't that well done in the book either and while it is understandable why they chose to put this book together as again Baywatch was a big thing at the time and so they rather rightfully thought that they would have a hit movie on there hands and making book to tie in with the movie might draw some attention to the original comic book as a whole it's a sound plan and a sound idea as well but at the same time you still need to actually make sure that the book version of the movie represents how the characters in the movie looked and have the book actually feel like an extension of the movie instead of it being something that looks visually nothing like the movie and while the comic book Barb Wire might not be that well known it was still being published as late as 2015 and so there are some people out there who most likely have a fondness for the original books and the original character as a whole as well and who knows maybe some of the people that love the book got that love from watching this movie.
Say what you will about modern day female led comic book movie and TV shows but they are a damned sight better then the movies that we are getting not only when this film was being released but also before and after it as well. As movies like Supergirl and Catwoman completely missed the mark on what it was that made there characters so cool and popular in he first place and then we had both Elektra and Tank Girl which in the case of Elektra tried but was just boring and Tank Girl was fun but was quite literally unfinished before they released it with really the only semi-decent female led comic book movie that we got back in the day being Red Sonja which even then that wasn't a good movie but it was at least a film that was so bad that it's good where as with all of the other films they were just flat out bad with this film even having one of the many things that's in common with all of the films as well and that's the fact that villains just weren't that good with the villains in this film being really flat and boring villains whose only crime is that they want to maintain order and that's really it which doesn't make them bad guys it just makes them human with this being made worse by the fact that Bard herself actually has a small rouges gallery of her own including oddly enough The Mask and all of which would have made for some passable villains in this film but for some strange reason the makers of this film chose to abandon everything that's from the comic barring Barb , her brother and the name of the city and that's really it and at that point it might as well just be something else entirely.
For some reason the makers of this film thought that it was a good idea to have both Barb and Axel have somewhat of a romantic subplot. Which not only doesn't suit either one of there characters and it doesn't work as none of this films cast have any kind of chemistry which each other romantic or otherwise and as a result of that i the fact that it just comes comes across as the makers of the film trying to win over the female audience without actually realising that they could've done that anyway just by making a good film with a strong female lead and while the character of Barb herself does come across as being a product of the nineties as she's not really written all that well in this movie it's something that couldn't be fixed as you very easily could've fixed all of this films problems apart from the acting by doing a rewrite of the script and by bringing in someone who actually worked on the comic books to work on this movie and yet because the makers of this film were just to lazy to actually be creative and do the work needed to make an actually good movie we are instead stuck with a film that really should've been alot more better then what it actually was and a romance angle that really isn't needed in this film as it's something that doesn't benefit either character and instead just feels like that it forced into the film by studio bosses who know absolutely nothing about how to make an actually good movie.
Now then this film has / had an exact gran total running time of exactly one hour and thirty four minuets and three seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running time that you'd expect a film like this one to ave to to this films credit it really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time but the issue is tho is that the film really doesn't take as full advantage of it's running time as it really could've done as the film really doesn't develop any of it's characters which leaves them all just feeling like there very note characters who are all very one dimensional , the plot of the film is also really underdeveloped along with the world that this film takes place in an all of the characters relationships with each other which means that when we do get to the big emotional moment where barb finds her that her brother was killed off by the villains then we the audience feel nothing because of the fact that the film has given us absolutely no reason to want to care for any of these characters and it's like that across the board as well which only serve to do more harm to the film then good as it would have helped the film if it did take the time to fully develop any or perhaps even all of these things and as such this film really does feel like that it's much more longer then what it really needed to be as you very easily really could have told this films plot in about forty five minuets at the most but I really will admit that his film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films action really being the films saving grace and what keeps it from being a dull and boring and lifeless mess of a film as it's during this films many action sequences that we get to see just how fun this film could've been with the film having many crazy and over the top action sequences that do feel like that they were ripped out of Tank Girl and placed in this movie only here it's something that actually works in this films favor as this film is also really over the top and there for it should have some really over the top action scenes to go with it with it being helped by the fact that Pamela Anderson actually did alot of own stunt work in the film even during the films epic third act fight scene where she and the villains are suspended high above the air and given that Pamela Anderson has a fear of heights and she's also fighting in high heels that means that when she looks scared during that scene it's because she genuinely is quite scared and that is something that really does help that action scene be the best action scene in the movie as it adds a small touch of realism to the scene and that is something that all of this films action scenes are very sadly missing as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall between this movie and the first two episodes of Stripperella this is very easily the better of the two just because of the fact that this movie can at least be so bad that it's good at times where as Stripperella was just bad and both of them are better left forgotten as they both pretty bad as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as being all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Dark Horse Movies fandom wiki page , the official Dark Horse Database fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
