The Lord Of The Rings 1978 A Short Film Review

When it comes to filmed versions of The Lord Of The Rings people seem to only rather rightfully think of the Peter Jackson films. Yet not alot of people know about the film that i'm going to be reviewing about today and so then join me as I review the film that crams two of the three books into one film with the film in question being called simply just "The Lord Of The Rings" enjoy.

The plot of this film is young hobbit Frodo Baggins is tasked with destroying a very powerful one which might see the end of the world if it falls back into its masters hands. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which really isn't all that surprising as the plot for The Lord Of The Rings as a whole is a really good with thus film pretty much following the plot of both The Fellowship Of The Ring and The Two Towers to the letter with there only being a few cuts made to the plot of both books with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Christopher Guard as Frodo and William Squire as Gandalf. Also starring in this film is Michael Scholes as Sam , Sir John Hurt as Aragorn , Simon Chandler as Merry , Dominic Guard as Pippin , Norman Bird as Bilbo , Michael Graham Cox as Boromir , Anthony Daniels as Legolas , David Buck as Gimli , Peter Woodthorpe as Gollum , Fraser Kerr as Saruman , Philip Stone as Théoden , Michael Deacon as Wormtongue , André Morell as Elrond , Alan Tilvern as The Innkeeper , Annette Crosbie as Galadriel and John Westbrook as Treebeard and Lord Celeborn of Lothlorien.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad which is to be expected given not only who is starring but also the fact this films director Ralph Bakshi really does cast some really good actors in all of his films and while the acting in the Peter Jackson does very easily eclipse the acting in this film that doesn't mean that this films acting is bad as it really isn't with alot of this films actors being very well cast with the acting that's in this very film also being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

After doing a bit of digging around there is one company that keeps on popping up in all of the credits for Ralph Bakshi films and that's Bakshi Productions and its them who I believe did the animation for this film. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the film using not only rotoscoping with them first filming the movie in live action and then tracing over rhe footage with films animation looking really good whichvis something that's to be expected from a Ralph Bakshi film with this film containing alot of the things that makes his animated films standout like the highly detailed backgrounds and the hyper realistic movements of all of the films characters.

As was stated at the start of this review this film crams the furst two books into one film. This was because of the fact this film was meant to have a sequel but because of the fact that someone in charge of United Artists at the time thought that audiences wouldn't pay to see half of a film and so the films title was changed from The Lord Of The Rings Part 1 to just The Lord Of The Rings this of course had the effect of making the audience feel cheated as this is only half of the story when if they stuck with the films original title then people would have been a bit receptive to the films approach of adapting all of the books in one go but as things stand there was no official sequel to this film and given the fact that Bakshi himself now regrets making the film just due to how bad the production was then there never ever will be an official Ralph Bakshi directed sequel to this film at all.

One of the things that thus film gets right is the fact that it's really good at building up tension. With the film just holding on shots while something creepy is coming towards our heroes which is a good and really effective way of building up tension and making the foes that our heroes have to face seem alot more creepy and frightening then what they actually are but at the same time tho the film doesn't really spend alot of time in building up it's enemies either with them coming across ss being mindless goons which granted might be the point for The Ring Wraiths but when The Orks are also being presented as being the exact same way then the film really does have a problem with making its villains seem actually scary.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and thirteen minutes and twenty seconds. Which is such a long running time for this film as while the film does have more then there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running it's the fact that the film is adapting two full length novels that makes the film hard to sit through as the film does throw so much at you that it then expects you to remember an hour later when it comes back into play which by that point several other things have happened which does make you wonder why the makers of this film chose this approach when adapting all three books as three films would have and is the much more better approach with this film not even taking the time to let us get to know its characters as its instead more focused on cutting of scenes way before there natural ending point but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As while yes this films action does come across as looking a little bit hokey due to the fact that the film was made using rotoscoping the film does actually feature alot of blood which is a small thing but it helps to sell us the audience on the action and when this film wants to have an impressive action set piece like there take on The Battle Of Helms Deep then it does look visually really impressive in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim is the latest animated outing into middle earth it's this film that has a cult following and it's very easy to understand why that's the case in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then interms of where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official The Lord Of The Rings fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official The Lord Of The Rings fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official The Lord Of The Rings fabdin wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official The Lord Of The Rings fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
