The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King Film Review

There are so few trilogies that can honestly claim to be one of the best trilogies of all time let alone be one where each film in that trilogy is so good in there own right. Well that's just the case with the film that i'm about to review for all today as this film was made and released at a time where fantasy films were seen as nothing more then box office poison and yet both this film and the other films in this trilogy proved that fantasy film can be hit films if they were actually good films and so then join me as I review the film that sees a great trilogy come to an end with the film in question being called simply just "The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King" enjoy.

The plot of this film is Sam and Frodo near the end of the quest to destroy the one ring but something more evil lurks closer to home ad Aragorn and company have to convince the steward of Gondor to raise an army to help in the fight against Sauron. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being a good example of how to do a final film in a trilogy as it does a good job of not only wrapping up all of the plot lines set up in the previous films but it also does a really good job of telling it's own story as well something that while yes is also true for the other films as well it stands out here because of the fact that this is the final film in this trilogy and yet even with all of that in mind the plot of this film still stands out as being a really good plot this is despite the fact that on paper it could be seen as being really over stuffed and yet it's somehow now at all with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins , Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee and Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn. Also starring in this film is Andy Serkis as Sméagol / Gollum , Billy Boyd as Peregrin Took , Dominic Monaghan as Meriadoc Brandybuck , Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf The White , John Rhys-Davies as Gimli and as the voice of Treebeard , Orlando Bloom as Legolas , Bernard Hill as Théoden , Miranda Otto as Éowyn , David Wenham as Faramir , Karl Urban as Éomer , Hugo Weaving as Elrond , Liv Tyler as Arwen , Cate Blanchett as Galadriel , John Noble as Denethor , Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins , Thomas Robins as Déagol , Bruce Spence as The Mouth Of Sauron , Brad Dourif as Gríma Wormtongue and The Man With The Golden Gun star Sir Christopher Lee as Saruman The White.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances in this film which really isn't all that new or shocking as alot of this film actors are not only reprising their roles from the previous films but alot of them have also being been playing there characters for years as well as it did take close to five years or so to film all three films back to back and that really does mean that all of this films actors will have a really good grasp on there characters and really know what kind of performance will best suit there respective characters in any given situation with the acting in this film also being helped by the fact that the script for this film  really is just so good that all this films actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Wētā FX , Tweak Films , Oktobor , Sandbox F/X , Rhythm & Hues Studios and Rising Sun Pictures. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which isn't all that surprising given the effects companies that were involved with making this film with all of this films effects not only looking really good for 2003 but also holding up really well over twenty years later and actually look better then alot of the modern of films that were being made just a few short years ago with alot of that being because of the fact that the effects teams for this film actually had alot of time to do the effects with it being clear as day that the effects budget for all three films was really high as all three films have a bunch of really good CGI in them while some of the effects in this film don't hold up really well as alot of the digital characters do look a little bit to fake the effects that do hold up really do look really good with this film being worth watching just for the effects alone.

While it could be argued that Frodo is the main hero of the trilogy as he's the one that's tasked with destroying the ring. It could also be argued that Sam is the hero as he's the one that's always there for Frodo when he needs him and even when he doesn't as he's just that good of a friend to him and heck even in this film alone he literally picks Frodo up and carries him to the the bridge near Mount Doom as well as fight of a giant spider and decide to take on the responsibility of destroying the ring himself when he believes that Frodo's died this is on top of the fact that he's always been there to cheer up the rest of the Fellowship which is something that makes it all the more sad when he admits that he doesn't think that he's going to make it for the journey home as at that point he's all but given up hope but it could also be argues that at that moment in time Sam becomes more of a realist and fully understands that the chances of him making back for the journey home are very slim at best either way it's a far cry from the optimist that he was even at the start of this film as then he was planning for that journey home and yet when he's at his lowest point even Frodo can't really cheer him u because for the past two films Frodo has been at his lowest point with the two characters serving as each others hero one in the physical sense (Frodo) and in the case of Sam in the mental sense as well.

One of the things that this film got quite alot of hate for when it first came out was the fact that it had far to many endings. Something that is still an issue even with the extended edition of the film as while yes the film does have quite alot of stories to wrap up it could have done so without having several fake endings as all that does is make the film start to drag on and when your film is as along as this one is it makes you wonder why the makers of this film chose to have several endings when they could have wrapped up all of the stories in one or even two or three endings and that's really it but at the same time by giving this film alot of endings does allow for us the audience to say goodbye to this film that we had spend quite alot of time in at that point in time and it allows us to say goodbye to the characters that we really came to love as well and while not alot of the films endings are all that good with the main ending taking alot of time to fully wrap up when there's nothing all that interesting even happening the endings that are good like the one with the fellowship reuniting and the coronation of King Aragorn those are not only a pair of really good endings but there also really good points to end the film with the extra ending feeling like that it was pushing things a bit to far when the two endings that they just had work just as good then the third extra long ending does.

Out of all of this films villains Denethor felt the most underdeveloped as while him not liking Faramir as much as his brother Boromir. The film really doesn't spend alot of time in developing Denethor as a character and while yes the character does also appear in The Two Towers extended edition as well neither film develops the characters outside of the fact that he likes one son more then then other and while yes we do get to see that he's fully insane there's nothing said in either film when he got that way and when he started to care about one brother over the other but at the same time not knowing all of those things does make hims seem all the more creepy as it says that something like that could happen out of anywhere which is a really creepy thought to have and the character does get the better treatment when compared to Saruman who only appears in one scene at the start of the movie in the extended edition and he's meant to be the big number two to Sauron and yet he gets treated like a throw away character when a character like him should have been given kore screen time to make his death really feel earned and that is something that this cut of the film really could have done giving how long that this film is.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time four hours and twenty three minuets and eleven seconds. Which really is such a long running tome for this film but to be fair tho this film really did need that long of running time as the film really does have alot of plot there to really cover that large amount of running time and it really does need every single second of it in order to tell it's story in a way that does justice not only to the actual story that's it's trying to tell but also to the book as well as it means that the film can be alot more faithful to the book and include things that would have been left out in theatrical cut of the film and while yes the film couldn't include every single thin from the book as if they did then the film would be at the very least nine hours long and to this films advantage this film really doesn't waste any single second of this films running time with all of this films running time being spent about advancing the plot and about getting the characters to the points where they need to be in a way that feels natural organic and that's because of the fact that the film isn't rushing it's plot points due to having a short running time as now that's not a problem and because of that every ingle plot point really does feel earned but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk abut the actual action that;s actually featured / presented to us in this vey film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that;s actually featured / presented to us un this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of good action scenes in it and while this film does get really over the top with what they have Legolas do during those action scenes as they take when they did with him sliding down a flight of stairs in the previous film and go really over the board with it in this film by having him take down an entire elephant and slide down it's truck on his own which yeah it;s cool but at the some time it's also something that doesn't look all that great either and when the film does have some really cool moments crowd pleasing moments they feel earned because of the fact that they weren't over the top and the fact that they feel like something that the characters would indeed do with the best of example of this being the "i'm no man" portion of the Battle Of The Pelennor Fields action scene as that moment was a culmination of Éowyn's character arc and because of that it was something that audiences loved and the film really is chock filled to brim with moments like that in it's many action scenes as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall it's not hard to see why this film is so well loved and so well remembered as it really is just that good of a film and it serves as great ending to a truly great trilogy of films and while watching the extended editions won't be the best way to get new fans into The Lord Of The Rings it is the only way to watch this films in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good ans as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 9 out out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in his very review from the official The Lord Of Th Rings fandom wiki page page , IMP Awards .
