Rebel Moon Chapter One: Chalice Of Blood Review
Directors cuts or not a new thing as they've been around for quite awhile however most directors cuts are released after there is a great demand to see the original vision of a certain movie. However the same thing cannot be said for this film as both this film and it's sequel are directors cuts of a pair movies that not alot people liked in the first place and didn't have a troubled production so there really was no call for anyone to greenlight to R rated versions of these movies and so then join me as I review the film that is quit literally a three hour and twenty four minuet trailer for the second film with the film in question being called simply just "Rebel Moon Chapter One: Chalice Of Blood" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when her planet is invaded a young girl goes out to find a group of rebels to help her defeat an evil empire. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about thew actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot t6hat's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with the plot of this film being just as good as it was in the previous cut of the film only in this cut of the film the plot does come across as being alot more focused where as in the previous cut of the film it came across as being all over the place dur to the amount of things that it has to set up where as here the plot really does take it's time to get going which doe both work for and against the film as it does allow the film to breathe alot more and it does allow for some solid world building but at the same time it also means that we get pointless scenes that add nothing to the plot of this film as well with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Sofia Boutella as Kora , Djimon Hounsou as Titus and Ed Skrein as Atticus Noble. Also starring in this film is Michiel Huisman as Gunnar , Bae Doona as Nemesis , Ray Fisher as Darrian Bloodaxe , Charlie Hunnam as Kai , Staz Nair as Tarak , Fra Fee as Balisarius , Cleopatra Coleman as Devra Bloodaxe , Stuart Martin as Den , Ingvar Sigurdsson as Hagen , Alfonso Herrera as Cassius , Cary Elwes as The King , Rhian Rees as The Queen , Elise Duffy as Milius , Jena Malone as Harmada , Sky Yang as Aris , Charlotte Maggi as Sam , Corey Stoll as Sindri , Stella Grace Fitzgerald as Princess Issa , Greg Kriek as Marcus , Brandon Auret as Faunus , Ray Porter as Hickman , Dominic Burgess as Dash Thif , Tony Amendola as King Levitica , Derek Mears as Simeon and Sir Anthony Hopkins as The Voice Of Jimmy.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that;s actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that;s actually featured / presented to us n this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As it's quite clear as day that all of this films actors had such a blast making this film with it also being helped by the fact that this films co-writer , producer and director Zack Snyder really does know how to get a good performance out of his actors something which is on clear display here as he manages to get some really good performances out of all of his actors and while somebody like Sir Anthony Hopkins really didn't have to turn in a good performance for this film as his legacy is already set in stone even he does turn somewhat a solid performance with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so bad as it gives none of this films cast absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in this first place something which really does help to bring down down the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Framestore , Weta FX , Scanline VFX , Luma Pictures , Rodeo FX , Mammal Studios and Day For Nite. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that;s actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in al honesty really good which really isn't all that surprising as alot of the effects companies that are working on this film are a bunch of really good effects companies and do usually turn in some really solid work which is also the case with this film as the effects that are in this film look really good and while yes they don't look as could as they perhaps could have done that's more due to the fact that there were doing the effects for this second Rebel Moon as well as this one and as such they would have had to have cut corners on some effects in order to put alot more effort in the more eye grabbing effects with the overall quality of the effects that are in this film being really good as this film has alot more good looking effects then it does have bad looking effects.
Unlike Zack Snyder's Justice League both this film and it's sequel have no reason to exist in this form as both films didn't have a troubled production that would have required a directs cut. As such it makes both this film and the next film pointless as they both add nothing to either film where as with Zack Snyder's Justice League it actually went out of it;s way to fix several issues that people had with 2017's Justice League here tho because no one was asking for a director's cut of either Rebel Moon film it makes you wonder why they even made these new versions of the films as this film doesn't really fix anything from the previous cut of the film but it also doesn't double down on those faults either and as a result of that is that all of the issues that people had with Part One of Rebel Moon are still present in this cut of the film only now it's surrounded by very little new footage which add nothing to the overall plot of the film and is rather pointless in the grand scheme of things with the only reason to make this cut of the film being of the fact that they added blood to the action scenes and that's really it and that's not a good enough to justify this cut of the film being a thing as the previous cut of the film and as a result of that is the fact that Zack Snyder could have made that cut of the film have alot of blood in it and Netflix could have released that cut of the film with all of the blood in it onto there streaming service and release a PG13 cut of the film in theaters.
To this films credit it does fix alot of the issues that are present in the previous cut of the film with the plot of this film being alot more focused and the hero characters getting at least some character developments. Something that really wasn't present all that much in the original cut of the film as that cut of the film was really determined to set up part Two that it came at the expense of making Part One a good enough film in it's right and while yes this film does still spend alot of time setting up things that will be payed off in Chapter Two they also take the time to really develop the characters alot more then what the previous cut of the film did and as a result of that of that is the fact that it does make the characters come across as being more memorable then what they were in the previous cut of the film and while they don't have much in the way of personality this cut of the film does show that the makers behind the film did put alot of care and effort into making the films hero characters come across as being somewhat developed characters with alot of the characters getting alot more time to shine and show what it is that they bring to the team something that they just didn't get in the previous cut of the film.
For some reason even tho this film hero characters at the very least start to become more fleshed out characters the same thing cannot be said for this films main villain. As Atticus Noble does come across as being a very note character with him not really having much of a reason for him being evil and as a result of that is the fact that;s hard for us the audience to actually find him threatening as a villain as we're not given a reason t dislike the character with him just being evil for the sake of being evil and that's not enough to make him an interesting character as all it does is make him a really boring characters that's exactly what Atticus Noble is and because of that is the fact that it makes the hero characters come across as being boring characters as well as the hero can only be as good as the villain that there going up against which means that if the villain isn't that good then the hero isn't that good as the hero doesn't have to do that much to outwit and defeat the villain something which is also the case for Atticus Noble and Kora as she doesn't have to do that much to outwit and defeat him which in turn makes hi look like a really weak villain that isn't all that threatening of a villain either.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly three hour and twenty four minuets and twenty six seconds. Which is just about the same running time that Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King's extended edition had but where as that film really did need a longer running time in order to tell it's story this film really doesn't and infact it's the regular edition of the film that has the better running time in the longer run as while yes this film does fix several issues that were present in the previous cut of the film this film also has alot of filler scenes that only serve to set up things that won't be payed off until Part Two and as a result of that is the fact that they come across as being filler scenes as they add nothing to the overall plot of this film and they therefor come across as being filler when this film really didn't need padding out as the film has more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time and as a result of that is the fact that the film should have spent more time in developing it's plot instead of setting up things that won;t be payed off until Chapter 2 but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that means that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However at the same time tho all of the action that's to be found in this film is the kind of action that;s to be expected in typical Zack Snyder action films all of which are fine for a few minuets but when alot of them play out the exact same way even with having pointless slow motion portions it makes all of this films action just come across as looking the exact same as there's nothing to make the action from the start of the movie and the action seen at the end of the movie different from each other and while the action at the start of the movie is the best action in the whole movie just because of the fact it was shocking to see them actually having blood in this film that is something that does quickly go away and as a result of that is the fact that the rest of this films action really just isn't all that interesting to look at and can be quite boring to watch at times as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall credit to Netflix for releasing this film and it's sequel really on the exact day but at the same time there really is no reason for wither cut of both films to exist with both of them really just being there just because of the fact that Zack Snyder has a thing for making really long directors cuts of his movies and that's really it and that's not really a good enough to justify either one of these two films being made in the first place in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally sued in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Rebel Moon fandom wiki page , the official DC Extended Universe fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great Google Images are all really high quality with all the images that are currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
