The Million Eyes Of Sumuru Film Review
When people think of Shirley Eaton they usually just think of her most famous film that being the James Bond classic Goldfinger. However she was in quite alot of films all throughout her career with the film that i'm about to review for you all today being one where she plays the films main villain and so then join me as I review the film that is to date the only only filmed to be featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 not once but twice with the film in question being called simply just "The Million Eyes Of Sumuru" enjoy.
The plot of this film is two American agents are sent to investigate the death of a politician and stumble across a plan to replace the world's male leaders with evil but stunning women. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with the plot of the film being something that was a fun plot to see play out but at the same time it's not really a plot that manages to hold your interest as it just keeps on plodding along when it really should be ramping up it's tension and starting to get going and while the plot was certainly new , fresh and different that doesn't make it a good plot as all it does is show that makers of this film are indeed willing to try out a different story but at the exact same rime tho they don't know how to make this films plot exciting with the plot of the film not really rather entertaining nor is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Shirley Eaton as Sumuru , Frankie Avalon as Agent Tommy Carter and George Nader as Agent Nick West. Also starring in this film is Wilfrid Hyde-White as Colonel Sir Anthony Baisbrook , Klaus Kinski as President Boong , Patti Chandler as Louise , Salli Sachse as Mikki , Ursula Rank as Erno , Krista Nell as Zoe , Maria Rohm as Helga Martin , Paul Chang Chungas as Inspector Koo and Essie Lin Chia as Kitty.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featue4ed / presented to us in this very film well then n all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featue4ed / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With there being some decent performances in this film from the likes of Shirley Eaton for example who is just such a pure joy to watch in this film and is so quite clearly having the time of her life playing Sumuru and even some of the films side characters as well but what lets the film down is the acting from star Frankie Avalon who is trying his best to be the funny comic relief side character but instead of just comes of as being annoying and someone that you don't want to see show up in the film and actor George Nader is just there with his performance being nothing more then OK at best with the acting in this film not really being helped by the films script as it gives this films cast absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does affect the overall quality of the acting that's n this film.
This film is based of off the Sumuru character that was created in 1945 in a radio serial with the character being created by author Sax Rohmer and being so popular that she spawned her very own series of novels. With what little information there is about the character out there the character herself was always a villain which makes it odd that in the 2003 film Sumuru she was portrayed as being somewhat of an anti-hero when that purely isn't the case and while it's hard to tell which of the book that this film is inspired from are even adapting as none of the books share a title with the film it is a telling thing that a film made in the sixties when the character was at her most popular got more of the character right then a film made in the 2000's where you could very easily find all five of the books in one go and while yes the character was never and will never be as popular as say James Bond for example she was still a popular character and one that started from nothing and yet due to how popular that she was still managed to get a few movies and a handful of book all written all about her and her attempts to rule the world.
As was mentioned at the start of this review this film is actually one of the only films to featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 twice. As the show featured it as it's eighth episode during what is known as the KTMA season and was featured as the ninth episode of season thirteen of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with the film also being covered by Rifftrax and it's not hard to see why as there's alot to make fun of this film for as it really is just that bad with the film even having a really obvious matt painting as nothing in what is meant to be the background is moving and that's not to mention the fact that the film has alot of bad acting in it and a story that is just so weird and bizarre that it's not hard to see either Mystery Science Theater 3000 or even Rifftrax have spotlighted this film as there's alot of material for both of them to get alot of really painfully jokes out of it and it does call attention to a film that might overwise have been forgotten about as not alot of people would even know that this film was even thing in the first place.
To give this film some form of credit the film does try to be a good film by having things like some good sets and a good villain. However those things aren't enough to make the film a good film as you need everything to come together to make what is a bad to average at best film be a great film and sadly that's not what happens with this film as there are alot of issues to he found with this film like the fact that alot of the girls including the main hero girl Helga Martin just come across as being rather bland and forgettable as none pf the are given much in the way of personality that helps them stand out from each other with the only one that stands out is oddly enough Sumuru herself who is a joy to watch as she is a charismatic character who is filled to the brim with charm and charisma something which does help her stand out from all of the other girls in this film fail to have and it's the same thing for alot of the male characters as well as alot of them just come across as being bland and to be frank really forgettable characters as well.
Alot of these sixties films wouldn't be made today and the same thing is true for this film but not because of anything that they say or do in this film. Rather it's due to the fact that the main plot of the film has a women trying to take over the world and that is something that certain subsections of the internet you just know will get offended by it without realising that the film does also present a member of her group as someone who sees the error of her ways and jumps ship and becomes a good guy and yet they won't be able to get past the fact that somebody who is meant to be a strong female character is doing these evil things and is using her femineity and that of her allies as well in order to get what she wants and as a result this film wouldn't be made today and given just how bad thing film is that might be a good thing as there are alot of bad films being released more now then ever before and we don't really need enough one as we the audience would be turned of form going to see films on the big screen something which would harm cinemas in the long one of things.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and nineteen minuets and six seconds. Which is the absolutely perfect running time for this film to have as this really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to cover anything longer then that and to this films credit while it does take itself more seriously then what it really should do it also knows to take the time to have some fun with it's plot and to have some fun in alot of the films scenes and while alot of the films comedy really doesn't work alot of the time when ti does work however you get some good comedy out of it and with the fil having a shorter running time it means that alot of the films running time has to be about advancing the plot of the film and be about advancing the characters and while yes it would have been nice if the film had a slightly longer running time as that wold allow the makers of this film to really fully develop all of it's characters on the flip side of doing side that tho it would also mean that the films plot would be stretched thin but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an actin film that means that means that I have actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not bad. However that's also the problem as the action in this film isn't all that good either with the action in this film being nothing more then OK at best as alot of the films action is just clunky and really slow moving which doesn't make for an exciting action scene as all it does is call attention to the fact that the action just isn't as good as it really should have been with the same thing also being true for the films action filled finale which just doesn't work this is despite the fact that the finale is very action orientated and yet it's just not as exciting and as good as other action films from around this same time period and that's really the same thing for pretty much all of this films many action scenes as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall to say that this film is either a bad or average film would really be an insult to bad or average films as at the very least those films have enough good things about them to really justify being average films where as with this film it's hard to justify it being really anything more then an average film as it's just that bad of a film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Amazon . Co Uk and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the really great Google Images this is because really all of the images that I really got and used from Google Images are all really high quality with all the images that are currently up and on the great Google Images are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
