Les Misérables 2012 Film Review

When a musical gets turned into a film it's usually when that musical is loosing it's popularity or is something that isn't all that well known. Well that isn't the case for the film that i'm about to review for you all today is the musical really is still very popular to this day and is known as one of if not the most really well known musical musical in the world and so then join me as I review the film that quite literally translates as The Miserables with the film in question being called simply just "Les Misérables" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a prisoner breaks his parole in nineteenth century France he embarks on a quest to better not only his own but the life of a little girl. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being breathtakingly good as it dares to show you that not everything in a musical ends up in a nice happy bow for it's characters and it dares to show that it's characters suffer sometimes for no reason at all and sometimes it's due to the other characters that there interacting with all of this is wrapped up in a plot that really isn't afraid to be true to the musical with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean , Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. Also starring in this film is Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy , Helena Bonham Carter as Mme. Thénardier , Sacha Baron Cohen as M. Thénardier , Samantha Barks as Éponine , Aaron Tveit as Enjolras , Daniel Huttlestone as Gavroche , George Blagden as Grantaire , Killian Donnelly as Combeferre , Fra Fee as Courfeyrac , Alistair Brammer as Jean Prouvaire , Hugh Skinner as Joly , Gabriel Vick as Feuilly , Iwan Lewis as Bahorel , Stuart Neal as Bossue and Russell Crowe as Javert.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in al honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films cast members turning in some really good performance which really couldn't have been easy as this film is told entirely in song with there only being about a paragraph's worth of actual dialog which makes the fact that the acting in this film is really good even more shocking as the cast have to act through all of the songs that there singing which for some people who are professional singers like Russel Crow example wouldn't have been that hard to do as they really already know how to sing with the fact that both Samantha Barks and Daniel Huttlestone are actually reprising their roles from various productions of the stage show and so would of course really know how best to perform there character and what kind of performance really would best suit there character in any given scene with the acting in this film really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

Doing the CGI for this film is Double Negative , The Mill , Utopia , Rushes Post Production , Lola Visual Effects , Webvfx , Artem and BOT VFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the issue as the CGI in this film in this film isn't al that good either and while yes the film does indeed get alot of credit for not really using to much CGI with it only being used for transitions and a few other shots that's still not an excuse for having CGI that looks really dated which OK granted isn't the fault f the makers of this film as you really can only work with whatever technology really is available at the time it is still something that really does date this film as the CGI in this film really hasn't aged all that well for the most part.

One of the key things about this film is that it's about love and how that can drive you to do things that you wouldn't normally do. As well as seeing how love in all of it's forms can effect people both of which are things that we see all throughout the film and both of which are things that lead the characters to go down dark and tragic paths and whilst some of them get happy endings it always comes at the cost of something tragic which is something that films don't portray as when you get a happy ending in a film you only usually see everybody get what they want and not what it cost to get there where as in this film you see all of that and all of that is due to the fact that the characters show some form of love with the best example of this being the unrequited love between Éponine and Marius and the love between Jean Valjean and his daughter Cosette as no matter Éponine does she can never get the attention of Marius and that is something that drives her to join the revolution which results in her death where as the love between Jean Valjean and Cosette is a familiar love as he wants her to find true happiness and when she does he doesn't live long enough to see how happy she becomes and so while she gets her happy ending it comes with a tinge of tragedy.

When this film was being promoted one of the things that they kept on mentioning was the fact that the singing was done live on set. Which is something that really does work well enough in this films favor as the story of this film really doesn't allow itself for singing that's been touched up and made perfect as it's meant to sound real and it's meant to sound raw and by singing the songs live it means that the actors can put in true performance that compliments the songs as well instead of having to guess how the song would sound in the end now they know how the song would sound and because of that they can adjust there performances and they can now get to those really emotional levels that you just wouldn't be able to get to if the songs where being pre-recorded but on the flip side of that tho is the fact that it means that the singing on certain people who can't sing can't be fixed before filming on the movie officially begins and that is something that really does show with the likes of Russel Crow who while he is a singer is more of a rock singer and there for doesn't have the voice to do what is basically an opera.

This film is of course a musical with the songs being written by the musicals original song writer Herbert Kretzmer. With this film shockingly including alot of the songs from the original musical with all of the songs in this film being some really good songs with the best song in the whole entire film being either "One Day More" or "Do You Hear The People Sing" with One Day More being a good example of how to tie together several character plot lines into one really good and really catchy song and Do You Hear The People Sing being a good example of how to do a song that alot of people can rally behind with all of the songs having some really good singing in it for the most part as while yes there are some dodgy singing in alot of the films songs those are very few and far between as the film features alot more good singing then it does bad singing and heck alot of this films songs are all good songs in there own right but those two songs are perhaps some of the best songs in the whole entire film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running timer of exactly two hours and thirty seven minuets and fifty four seconds. Which is the perfect running time for this film to have as the film really does have more then enough there interms of plot to cover that really large amount of running time and while yes the film can indeed feel a bit on the long side at times especially during the middle section which does seem to drag on but at the same time there's no way that you could possibly tell this story and do it justice without it coming in at over two hours and thirty minuets as if you do start cutting out alot of random scenes it would be something that really does go on to harm the plot of the film and to the films credit it really does take full advantage of it's really long running time with the film taking the time to create a bunch of really likable characters but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a drama that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good for the most part. As while yes alot of the drama that comes from the Jean Valjean storyline could all be resolved if he just took a second to think about what's actually going on but the drama in this film is also mostly really good with alot of the drama feeling like it's very character and very real which does make the this films drama all the more hard hitting as there things that could happen to people and in the cases and Fantine did for the most part actually happen to one of the real life people that inspired her and that is something that makes the drama in this film all the more really hard hitting in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is still so good even over ten years later and it's one that people who are fans of both musicals and films should go and watch as it's a good example of how to do a musical and how to do it well enough that it works both for musical fans and for being a straight forward film as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that meas that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Les Misérables fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the official Les Misérables fandom wiki page this is because alot of not all of the images that I really got for this review and that are still of course currently up and really are on the really great the official Les Misérables fandom wiki page with them all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
