Monsters, Inc. Film Review
PIXAR have released many a great film over the decades with alot of there films being classic animated films. With the same thing also being true for the film that i'm about to review for you all today as the film that i'm about to review for you all today is one of the very PIXAR films that is mostly a cult classic as it never really got all that popular until about fifteen years ago and so then join me as I review the film that makes monsters fun to be around with the film in question being called simply just "Monsters, Inc." enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a human child accidentally walks into a world full of humans to of the monsters must work how to get her back home before it's far to late. Now the interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented t us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being a good example of just how good the plots of PIXAR films used to be as opposed to what the plots of the more modern day PIXAR films are really like now as it was a really fresh plot that wasn't done before and hasn't been done since this film came out with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is John Goodman as James P. "Sulley" Sullivan , Billy Crystal as Mike Wazowski and Mary Gibbs as Boo. Also starring in this film is Steve Buscemi as Randall Boggs , James Coburn as Henry J. Waternoose , Jennifer Tilly as Celia Mae , Bob Peterson as Roz , John Ratzenberger as Yeti , Frank Oz as Fungus , Daniel Gerson as Needleman and Smitty , Steve Susskind as Jerry , Bonnie Hunt as Flint , Jeff Pidgeon as Bile , Sam Black as George Sanderson , Philip Proctor as Charlie , Joe Ranft as Pete "Claws" Ward and Wallace Shawn as Rex.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which given who is starring in this film isn't really that much of a surprise as the overall vast majority of this films cast are a bunch of really good actors with the best performers in this film being John Goodman , Billy Crystal , Mary Gibbs and Steve Buscemi who really just light up the screen in whatever there scene that there in as the acting in this film really is just so good in this film with the acting in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all the films cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.
Doing the animation for this film is of course the legends ad the greats that are currently over at Pixar Animation Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which just like the acting in this film is not really that surprising as it's PIXAR and they only do visually stunning films that always have some really good animation in them with even there bad films like Cars 2 for example have some really good animation in them with the animation in this very film being just as stunning as you'd want it to be and actually groundbreaking as Sulley's hair took days to render out every single time as there was just that much fur on his body that they needed more processing power and it because of that we get some really good looking fur on animated creatures in today's animated films as well.
One of the key things to making the plot of this film work is the relationship between Sulley and Boo as without that relationship working the film really does fall apart. As that's how key there relationship is to not only the plot of the film but also to each others characters journey like Boo has to learn not to be afraid of the monsters in her closet and Sulley has to learn that scaring kids isn't always the best thing in the world and neither can do that without each other and this is something that the makers of this film really do understand as the films puts alot of focus on their relationship which does make us the audience really do believe that these two characters that on paper really shouldn't be friends very slowly and over the course of the film become really close friends so much so that at the end of the film all each of them want to do is just see each other again and that's it and that is something that really does make there relationship really feel all the more reel.
However while putting alot of focus on the relationship between Boo and Sulley is indeed a good thing it's also something that takes away alot of the focus of the friendship between Sulley and Mike. Something which is also key into making the plot of this film work as they both need each other in order to achieve there own goals in life and yet because of the fact that the film doesn't give there friendship alot of the focus that the Boo and Sulley relationship gets the friendship between Mike and Sulley feels forced as for alot of the film we just the two characters treat each other horribly all of which makes you wonder why these two characters are friends in the first place and is this is something that could have been fixed just by giving there friendship some focus as well and this would have the knock on effect of making the characters seem alot more reel and alot more fully developed as well as as things stand both characters come across as being very thinly drawn out characters that have very little personality to them and yet if there friendship was given some focus then they could be alot more developed as characters.
While the film is quite possibly the first PIXAR film to have a twist villain it's the films main villain that is the better of the two. As Randell is a good character with him being insanely jealous of Sulley and over the course of the film we see that aspect of his character drive him to do things that he thinks will help the scare industry and will also help him and we see just how far that he's willing to go to archive his goals all of which combine to make him a really good and a well rounded villain where as the same thing cannot be said for the films twist villain Henry J. Waternoose as everything about his character doesn't really scream villain character and as a result of that is when he does reveal himself as a twist villain it really doesn't work as everything that we've seen him do and how he's acted before then all make him look like that he's a good guy albeit one that's a little behind with the times with this not really being helped by the fact that there are no clues all throughout the early part of the film even hinting that he might be a villain as well as Randell all of which combine to making his surprise reveal really feel out of left field.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty two minuets and eight seconds. Which really is the absolutely perfect running time for this film to have as the film really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to cover that large of a running time and yet at the same time the film also feels like that it has not only just enough plot but also more plot at the exact same time as well all of which makes it feel like that the film was really thought as it appears as if the makers of this really did put in alot of effort into creating a story and a world that felt reel and that is something that really does show in the final cut of the film and while the film would have benefited if the film had a slightly longer running time just so the characters could be more fully developed if they did that then they also run the risk of stretching the films plot thin which would also then make alot of the issues in this film seem alot more bigger and major then what they already are but I will admit that this film really does ave some really good pacing to it tho.
So now ten as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the film having alot of cute and funny moments alot of which come from Boo herself as she is just a funny character that works well as a character as she's a kid that's just acting like a kid and acting how a kid would act like in any of the situations that she finds herself in in this very film and while yes both Sulley and Mike get alot of really good jokes as well none of which are as good nor are they as cute as the ones that Boo has in this very film as both her jokes and alot of the films jokes really do feel like that there character driven jokes and feel like jokes that those characters would in deed make in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is so good and while the prequel film does somewhat mess with the backstory of both Mike and Sulley it doesn't make this film really all that bad as while yes the film really does have some flaws in it those flaws don't do alot of harm to the actual film itself in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official PIXAR fandom wiki page , the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the really great the official Disney fandom wiki page this is because all of the images that I got for this review and that are still and of course currently up and really are on the really great the official Disney fandom wiki page with them all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
