Thunderbirds 2004 Film Review
It's not uncommon for TV shows to get movie adaptations but what is un common is for a show that only lasted two seasons in the sixties to get a movie adaptation. Well that's what happened in 2004 when a show that saw a resurgence in popularity in the nineties was given it's very own live action movie and it's that movie that i'm going to be talking about today and so then join me as I review the film that introduced the world to a pre Disney star with the film in question being called simply just "Thunderbirds" enjoy.
The plot of the film is when his family are held captive and left for dead it's up to Alan Tracy to save hos family and stop the bad guy once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really bad with this films plot not only being very badly written but also being very generic and really boring as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Brady Corbet as Alan Tracy , Philip Winchester as Scott Tracy and Lex Shrapnel as John Tracy. Also starring in this film is Dominic Colenso as Virgil Tracy , Ben Torgersen as Gordon Tracy , the late Bill Paxton as Jeff Tracy , Soren Fulton as Fermat Hackenbacker , Anthony Edwards as Ray "Brains" Hackenbacker , Sophia Myles as Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward , Ron Cook as Aloysius Parker , Deobia Oparei as Mullion , Rose Keegan as Transom , Vanessa Hudgens as Tin-Tin Belagant and Sir Ben Kingsley as The Hood.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As this films cast do turn in some fairly solid performances but even so there are alot of performances in this film that just flat out bad and that does bring down the overall quality of the acting in this film.
Doing the CGI for this film is the true legends and the true greats that are currently over at Framestore CFC. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films CGI being alot better then most other CGI heavy films that were released around the same time but at the same time tho this films CGI isn't as good as it really should have been or even could have been for that matter.
This is very loosely based on the 1965 British kids TV show of the exact same name and I say very loosely as this film is basically Thunderbirds in name only. As none of the characters act like they did in the show the storyline isn't something that show would have done and the characters look nothing like their original counterpart all of which just goes to show you that the makers of this film weren't fans of the show to begin with and were only making this movie as the show got some popularity in the nineteen nineties all of which is back up by the fact that series co-creator Gerry Anderson openly said that the only time he was asked by the show by the film makers was when they went to get the rights of him to make this film and heck his name isn't even listed in the films credits.
Heck this isn't a case where people can say that this film is a prequel to the show as in the very first episode of the show it's quite clearly stated that that episodes rescue mission IS their very first ever rescue mission. Which means that the makers of this film had no clue what they were doing while making this film as it just comes across as a huge slap to the face to the die hard fans of Thunderbirds who are going to see this movie and it's just not good enough to make people become fans of the show it's just their just to leech of the shows name without understanding why the show was as popular as it was in the first place.
I will admit that having The Hood be the main villain of this movie was a smart choice as the show never really had a villain apart from him anyways. However tho a Thunderbirds movie really doesn't need a villain as alot of the episodes of the show never really had one with the focus of the show being what should have been the focus of this movie a rescue that only International Rescue can pull off and while The Hood in this movie is mostly true to his character in the show even down to him being Tin-Tin's uncle he's a character that really isn't needed in this film as not every single family friendly action film needs a villain with this film being one of them.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty four minuets and forty three seconds. Which is a tad bit on the short side for this film as this film has so much to set up and it does so in a such a fast pace that it leaves little room for the films plot to be fully developed and it leaves very little no for there to be any kid of character development with the film setting up potential scenes where character development could happen but then very quickly resolving them for no reason this isn't helped by the fact that like I said this film has some really bad pacing with the film being two fast for it's own good.
So now then as this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us n this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us un this very film was n all honesty not that bad. With this film having some fairly solid action in it however the action in the show will always look better because they had the stories that helped make the action all the more believable and heart pounding and that's just something that this film just doesn't have in the slightest in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film really hasn't aged all that well at all even almost twenty years later and I can see why people just don't talk about this film as it really is just that bad of a film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 4.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personal;y got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Thunderbirds fandom wiki page , Wikipedia and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very film being obviously Google Images since really alot of this films images that are really from this very film and that are all currently and still up and on Google Images and all of the images are all really fairly freaking high in picture quality and as well as them all really being really fairly freaking high in definition.
