Are You Being Served? Film Review

While it's not uncommon for TV shows to be turned into a movie in seventies Britain it was quite the range. With their being quite alot of sitcoms getting turned into movies with those movies very sadly being forgotten about over the course of the time and sadly the film that i'm about to review for you all today is one such film and so then join me as I review the film that asks you a question with the film in question being called simply just "Are You Being Served?" enjoy.

The plot of the film is the staff at a department store go on holiday to sunny Spain where they find themselves caught up in the middle of the local revolution. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt abut the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the issue because it;s not all that good ether with this films plot being nothing more then OK at best in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is John Inman as Mr Wilberforce Clayborne Humphries and Mollie Sugden as Mrs Betty Slocombe. Also starring in this film is Frank Thornton as Captain Stephen Peacock , Trevor Bannister as Mr Dick Lucas , Wendy Richard as Miss Shirley Brahms , Arthur Brough as Mr Ernest Grainger , Nicholas Smith as Mr Cuthbert Rumbold , Harold Bennett as Young Mr Grace , Arthur English as Mr Beverley Harman , Karan David as Conchita , Glyn Houston as Cesar Rodriguez and Andrew Sachs as Don Carlos Bernardo.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With all of the TV series cast of course turning in some good performances and all of the guest cast really more then holding their own acting wise by also turning in some really good performances as well.

To me the best example of a seventies or sixties sitcom getting turned into a comedy is the 1971 film version of Dad's Army. Just due to the fact that that film added to the overall story of the show whilst this film just feels like an extended episode of the show all the while adding quite literally nothing new to the actual show itself which does make this film feel rather pointless since while it does give us the characters that we came to love over the shows first five series that's all it gives us since we don't get to see any story added to the show at all which is something that really should have been the case as that would then give us a reason to go and see this film.

This show is a great representation of the show which is both a plus and a negative since the show itself wasn't that good either and nearly always just had the storylines of their episodes just end. Both of which are true for the film version as well since this isn't a very good film which uses a tried and true plot trope of having established characters go to another country but it doesn't take full advantage of that idea and just like the show this films plot just stops which might work of a TV sitcom but it's not something that works well enough for a movie.

This film is based of off the show of the exact same name which ran from September 8th 1972 and finished airing on April 1st 1985. With the show lasting for ten full seasons and several Christmas specials as well as sequel series in the nineties and an international remake so yeah to say that this show was popular would be a huge understatement it's just a shame that this film just couldn't recapture that same success since the film had the same writers and producers of the show and the exact same cast from the show so on paper it should have been great but for some reason it just wasn't and because of that this film has largely been forgotten about which is a shame because when this film get's it right it really does get it right.

Like  I said this film uses the overdone trope of having established characters from a TV show appear in a new country. However whereas most films that use that idea would do so to tell more interesting stories this film does it to basically tell what I can only describe as a Looney Tunes short but done in live action since the entire third act of this movie feels like a Looney Tunes short only without the good jokes that make it worth watching which is a shame because the first act feels exactly like an episode of Are You Being Served s such the whole movie should ave been alot more like that first act and not like the third act that we actually got instead.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour ad thirty one minuets and twenty three seconds. Which is pretty much the running time that you'd expect a film like this one to last and to this films credit it is the perfect running time for this film to last since it really doesn't have alot of plot or story to cover anything longer then that and as such this film really does last the perfect amount of time and really helping things is the films pacing with the film just flying by and no scene lasting longer then what it really needs to last.

So now then since this is a comedy and so then that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Since we do get some pretty funny jokes in the films first act however by the the time we get to the films third act tho there are really next to no good jokes to be found in the film whatsoever in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this is a good representation of what the show that doesn't make it a good movie since this movie just straight up copies jokes from the show but when this movie wants to be fun and entertaining it can be rather fun and entertaining tom watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 4.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com , Wikipedia and Google Images. With my preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images just simply due to the fact that alot of the images that are on Google Images are all fairly high quality and as well as being fairly high definition.
