Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan Film Review

Film fans out of the more modern Star Trek film i've not reviewed nor have I even seen any of the classic Star Trek films and well I thought that I would put an end to that end dry streak by watching and reviewing what people consider to be the best Star Trek film ever made. This is a film really does need no introduction and so join me as I review the film that pretty much put Star Trek on the map as a motion picture film and media franchise with the film in question being called simply just "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan" enjoy.

The plot of this film is a villain called Khan Noonien Singh escapes his fifteen year exile on a deserted planet and Khan Noonien Singh seeks revenge on the person who put him and his crew and the person who Khan is seeking revenge on is Admiral James T. Kirk. Now then in terms of what I thought about the plot of this film in all honesty I really did like the plot of this film altho I do feel that the plot of this film is rather weak and is also rather simple at the same time with the film not really giving alot of focus to the plot of this film until at the very least the thirty or even forty minuet mark.

Starring in this film is William Shatner as James T. Kirk and Ricardo Montalbán as Khan Noonien Singh. Also starring in this film is Leonard Nimoy as Spock , DeForest Kelley as Leonard McCoy , James Doohan as Montgomery Scott , George Takei as Hikaru Sulu , Walter Koenig as Pavel Chekov , Nichelle Nichols as Uhura , Bibi Besch as Carol Marcus , Merritt Butrick as David Marcus , Paul Winfield as Clark Terrell and Kirstie Alley as Saavik.

In terms of what I personally thought about the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film in all honesty I personally thought that the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film was really freaking good. Not only is the acting good from the returning cast members but the acting is also good from the new / guest cast members as well and what helps both sets of actors is that the script for this film is so freaking good and so all the actors have to do is simply read the dialog / words is they are written and a good performance would / will come out more / alot more naturally.

Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Visual Concept Engineering and Stargate Studios. Now then in terms of what I personally thought about the effects that were presented to us in this film is all honesty the practical and the CGI effects that are featured / presented to us in this film are really good even if you take into account that this film was made and in 1981 and was released in 1982 the CGI effects and the practical effects still hold up really well but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways / at least.

Now then not alot of people know this but this film is not only a sequel to Star Trek: The Motion Picture but it's also a sequel to an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. Since the character of Khan Noonien Singh made his first and appearance in season one episode twenty four of Star Trek: The Original Series and from what I can work out this film does contain some nods to that episode (the episode in question is called "Space Seed" for those of you who don't know) however you don't need to have seen either Star Trek: The Motion Picture or the episode of Star trek: The Original Series which features the debut of Khan Noonien Singh in order to fully understand the plot of this film since the film does a really good job catching up on what the episode in question was about and also in catching up on what the character of Khan Noonien Singh has been up to since the events of the episode is question.

Now then this film deals with not one but two major themes the first of which being revenge and what that can do to you as a person. Which is something that I personally thought to be very interesting simply because the Star Trek film franchise has never really dealt with revenge at least from what I can remember anyways and so it was rather interesting to see that theme playout in this film but if i'm being honest this film doesn't really handle the theme o revenge very well since it's not really something that's given alot of focus and so the theme of revenge comes across as something that was very underdeveloped in my opinion anyways / at least.

The other theme that is in this film is the theme of death and I honestly felt that this theme was handled alot better because it's also something that serves as a key plot point to this film. We see this theme come into affect several times in this film with characters even talking about death of characters being killed of and heck the entire ending of them film is dedicated to this theme and that was something that I honestly wasn't expecting to be the case because when you think of Star Trek you don't really think of death as being a major theme in either the plot f an episode or in the plot of a movie but nope here it is front and centre and that was something that I in all honesty really did like or even love about this very film

This film has a total running time of one hour and fifty three minuets and one second and I have to say I really didn't think that this film was that long at all. This is simply because the film really did fly by with no scene lasting to long or no scene not lasting long enough and thus each scene lasted the perfect amount of time. However with that being said you could straight up tell when the actor forgot a line because they keep in a really long pause where the line was meant to be said and that oddly made the film pretty hilarious to me.

Now then this film is listed on IMDB as being an action film and so that means that I have to actually talk about the the action that's featured / presented to us in this film and well if i'm being really freaking honest here the action that's featured / presented to us in this film isn't that good. Since all of the action is is one space ship shooting at another spaceship and the actors just moving either left or right which is fine for one part of a major action sequence but when almost every single action sequence is like that it gets pretty boring to watch.

Overall this was a really good film and it's a film that I do recommend people watch if they want to get into classic Star trek and if those exact same people also want to see what Star trek was like when it's at it's absolute best. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this film in this very review and as such that means that this film gets a solid score of a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I got all of the images that I used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from either the official Star Trek fandom wiki page or Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being the official Star Trek fandom wiki page simply just due to the fact that alot of if not all of the images that are currently up on the Star Trek fandom wiki page are all fairly high in quality and as well being fairly high definition.
