The New Mutants Film Review

 

X-Men fans the X-Men film franchises is perhaps the longest running superhero film franchise in cinematic history with the first X-Men film having been released in the year 2000 and the final film in the X-Men film franchise having been released in 2020 and while the film that i'm about to review wasn't that well received when it first came out. I want to see if the film has gotten either or better or worse and so join me as I review the final film in the X-Men film franchise with the film in question being called simply just "The New Mutants" enjoy.

Now here is where I would normally summarise the plot of the film and as well as give my opinions on the plot of the film. However the makers of this film chose to do me a massive favour and chose not to bother giving this film any kind of plot whatsoever i'm not even kidding I watched the entire film and there's no hint of a plot whatsoever in this film and that is the first of many mistakes that this film makes since giving your film a plot is film making 101.

Starring in this film is Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane and Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik. Also starring in this film is Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball , Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes , Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage , Henry Zaga as Roberto Da Costa / Sunspot Adam Beach as William Lonestar Thomas Kee as Thomas Guthrie and Happy Anderson as Rev. Craig Sinclair.

In terms of what I personally thought about the acting that's featured / presented to us in this very film in all honesty the acting that's featured / presented to us in this very film isn't as bad as it perhaps could or even perhaps should have been. Since the acting that's featured / presented to us in this very film is pretty good with all of the actors and actresses that are starring in this film putting in some genuinely solid / good performances but even these actors and actresses as good as they are cannot make this bad script work.

Doing the CGI for this particular film is Method Studios , Moving Picture Company , Double Negative , Zero VFX , Cantina Creative and Exceptional Minds. In terms of what I personally thought about the CGI that's featured / presented to us in this film in all honesty the CGI that's presented to us in this film is at best average since for every good CGI effect that's in this film there's one or two bad looking CGI effects that are featured / presented to us in this particular film.

As I said at the start of this very review this film is the final film in the X-Men film franchise and well instead of going out with a bang this I guess you could say iconic and revolutionary franchise went out with a whimper. Which is such a shame because with out the first X-Men film being as good as it was we wouldn't have the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even the DC Extended Universe and so this film franchise deserved to have a big send of and good film to end this franchise on and sadly with this film we got neither of those.

Since this film got pushed back and delayed so many times that people just stopped caring about the film and I know this because I was one of those people. As such nobody could care if this film was being released because of the fact that it could be delayed within hours of a new trailer being posted and that shouldn't be the case for this film since you should always want your audience to be excited for your film and the fact that pretty much nobody was excited for this film just goes to show you how poorly the marketing and release / distribution of this film was in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways / at least.

Not only does this film have no actual plot line / story line to speak of whatsoever in my opinion but the characters that are appearing in this film have no actual characteristics. As such all of this films characters are very badly written since you should always give your characters some kind of personality and some kind of characteristics and so the very fact that the makers of this very film chose not to give any of it's characters any personality or any kind of characteristics just makes the characters that are appearing in this film feel very flat and as well as feel very two dimensional.

Now then boys and girls this film has a shockingly short running time of exactly one hour and thirty four minuets and four seconds and this is another one of the major issues that are in this very film. Since this film has alot of characters to introduce and as well tell any kind of a story and this film simply cannot do that with this shockingly short running time and as such I honestly feel that this film should have been at the very least either two hours or at the very least a little over two hours long but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.

Now then boys and girls since this particular film is a superhero action film (yes I refuse to call this film a horror film because there's nothing that's actually scary in this film whatsoever) and so that means that I have to actually talk about the action that's in the actual film itself and if i'm being really freaking honest here boys and girls. The action that's in this film is a very mixed bag since you can barely see any of the action that's featured / presented to us in this film due to the fact that the action mainly takes place at night for no reason whatsoever and the little bits of action that we do actually see range from either being really good and really cool to see to being really lame and boring and in my opinion anyways / at least predictable as all heck.

Overall this film really hasn't gotten any better over time infact I think that this film has somehow gotten alot worse over time since the things that are I found wrong with the film in this viewing I don't recall being that much of an issue when I first saw the film back when it was first released on August 28th 2020. Now then i've talked about both of the good and as well as being both of the bad things that are in this film in this very review which means that that this gets a below average score of a 4.5 out of 10 from me.

As for where I got all of the images that I used in this very review well then boys and girls / ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very from the official X-Men Movies fandom wiki page and nowhere else and since I only went to the official X-Men Movies fandom wiki page and nowhere else. That means that I have no choice to but to recommend that you guys visit the official X-Men Movies fandom wiki page if you want to use any images from the X-Men movies since pretty much all of the images that are featured / on the official X-Men Movies fandom wiki page are all fairly high quality and as well as being fairly high definition.
