In The Heights Film Review
Well then film fans there are a ton of films that i'm planning on reviewing and there are alot of films and new films that i'm planning on reviewing. However the film that i'm reviewing today is a film that I honestly had no interest in reviewing and I will straight up admit i'm only even watching this film because it's being produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda and so join me as I review the film that is called simply just "In The Heights" enjoy.
Now then here is where I would normally tell you what the plot of the film and as well as give you me overall thoughts and opinions on the overall plot of the film. However the makers of this film chose not give this film a plot granted there are hints of a plot with the character Usnavi De La Vega but it's never focused on and so it comes across as this film not really having a plot which makes the makers of this film seem incredibly lazy but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
Starring in this film is Anthony Ramos as Usnavi de La Vega , Corey Hawkins as Benny and Leslie Grace as Nina Rosario. Also starring in this film is Melissa Barrera as Vanessa , Olga Merediz as "Abuela" Claudia , Daphne Rubin-Vega as Daniela , Gregory Diaz IV as Sonny de la Vega , Jimmy Smits as Kevin Rosario , Stephanie Beatriz as Carla , Dascha Polanco as Cuca , Lin-Manuel Miranda as Piraguero , Marc Anthony as Mr. De La Vega , Noah Catala as Graffiti Pete and Christopher Jackson as Mr. Softee.
In terms of what I thought about the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film well in my opinion anyways / at least the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film is one of the best things that's in this film. This is because it's clear as day that all of the actors that are starring in this film are really giving it there all it's just a shame that the script gives these actors nothing to work with character wise and so the actors can't really do that much with their characters because the script simply won't allow them to do that much with their respective characters.
Now then for those that don't know this film is based on the 2008 Broadway stage show of the same name and from what I can gather just by reading the Wikipedia page for the Broadway stage show this film is pretty much the exact same as the Broadway stage show. Which is fine for fans of the Broadway stage show since they'll know the story and the characters inside out but it's not a good thing for the mainstream audience members who are only watching this film and have no idea about the stage show because this film doesn't go into detail about what it's plot is even meant to be nor does it go into detail about it's characters.
Now then as with every single Warner Bros Pictures. film that's being released this year this film is being released on HBO max and is being released into theatres on the exact and while that model might work for most films. I don't really think that that model will work for this film since this is a film that was well and truly made to be seen up on the big screen since this film is a feel good film and those feel good films work better when your seeing in a theatre surrounded by countless over people all having the exact same experience that you are.
There was one plot point which I saw coming a mile away i'm not going to spoil what it is but due to the fact that I was able to see this plot point coming a mile away it didn't have the same effect on me as it perhaps could have done if it wasn't so obvious what the plot point was going to be. making things worse is the fact that when this particular plot point started to occur I felt nothing because the film gave me no reason to care for any of these characters.
The stage production might have given us reasons to care about these characters but since I haven't seen nor do I fully intend to see the stage production I can only judge these characters by how they presented in this film and well these characters are just there. None of these characters have any personality whatsoever and none of these characters at least in the film have any kind of story arc and so how they start the film is exactly where those characters when they end the film and that makes it hard for anyone to actually care for your characters.
Look I want it known that I didn't go into the film wanting to hate far from it infact I saw the rotten tomatoes score and I assumed that this movie was going to be good however this movie fails at getting basic screenwriting things down and it's those things that hurt the film. Also kind of hurting the film is the fact that this film is two hours and twenty two minuets and fifty six so lets round that up to two hours and twenty three minuets and if i'm being honest this film doesn't need to be that long since you could have had this film come in at just under one hour and thirty minuets and you'd have to loose nothing of importance to the what little story there is because once again this film doesn't even have a plot or even a story to tell in the first place.
Now then boys and girls since this film is a musical film and so that means that I have to talk about the songs that are featured / presented to us in the actual film itself and if i'm being honest the songs that are featured / presented to us in the actual film itself are really freaking good. Which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone since all of the songs that are featured / presented to us in this film were all written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and so you know that all of the songs are going to be good and heck I really cannot pick which song that I personally liked the best because all of the songs that are featured / presented to us in this film are that good.
Overall this film is at best a pretty decent but that's all it is and that's all it's ever going to be and while there might very well be some people who absolutely love this film i'm just not one of them. Now then since i've talked about both of the good and as well as being as both of the bad things that are in this film in this very review and so that means that this film gets a pretty average score of a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
As for where I got all of the images that I used in this very review well then boys and girls and ladies and gentlemen I got all of the images that I used in this very review from Google Images and nowhere else and since I went to Google Images and nowhere else for the images that I used in this review. I have no choice but to recommend that you guys use Google Images if you want to use any images from this film since the images that I found were fairly high quality and as well as being as fairly high definition.
