Up! 1976 Film Review
Ladies and gentlemen it's been about two months since I last reviewed a film by Russ Meyer and well I thought that i'd rectify that right now. Simply by taking a look at a Russ Meyer film that i've heard about but have never watched that is until now and well i have to say that I strongly feel that this is not only his most bizarre film but also his weakest film and so join me as I review the 1976 Russ Meyer film with the film itself being called simply "Up!" enjoy.
Now here I were I would normally tell you what the plot of the film is and as well as give you my opinions on the plot of the film. However the makers of this film chose to give this film a plot so weak that only does it straight disappear from the film but the plot of this film is so freaking weak that at times it's hard to actually tell what the actual of this film even this which is a huge red flag since alot of films should have plots in them and that that this film pretty much doesn't have a plot is a bad thing but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion.
Starring in this film is Raven De La Croix as Margo Winchester and Edward Schaaf as Adolph Schwartz. Also starring in this film is Robert McLane as Pau , Kitten Natividad as The Greek Chorus , Candy Samples as The Headsperson , Su Ling as Limehouse , Janet Wood as Sweet Li'l Alice , Linda Sue Ragsdale as Gwendolyn , Monty Bane as Homer Johnson , Marianne Marks as Chesty Young Thing , Larry Dean as Leonard Box , Bob Schott as Rafe , Foxy Lae as Pocohontas , Ray Reinhardt as The Commissioner and Elaine Collins as The Ethiopian Chef.
In terms of what I thought about the acting that's presented to us in this film in all honesty the acting that's presented to us in this film is the kind of acting that you expect to see in a Russ Meyer film. In that the acting that's presented to us in this film is at best OK which is great for a Russ Meyer film where the acting in his films ranges from OK to bad but it's bad thing for any type of film since having bad acting can and in this case did take me out of the film but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
Like with Supervixens this film reuses an actor from Russ Meyer's previous film in this case it's actor Ken Kerr. Sadly tho he's not playing his character from Beneath The Valley Of The Ultra Vixens which is a shame (yes I do no that actress Kitten Natividad was also in Beneath The Valley Of The Ultra Vixens) because like I just said this film also stars Ken's Beneath The Valley Of The Ultra Vixens co-star Kitten Natividad but again she's playing a completely different character and as such it would have been nice to have seen them not only share the screen together but to also have them reprise their roles from Beneath The Valley Of The Ultra Vixens but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
This film is so freaking strange and bizarre that I cannot even begin to explain to you all what happens in this film. Since this film is strange and so bizarre that this film honestly makes no sense just due to how strange and bizarre this film well and truly is and just to give you an idea of how strange and bizarre and nonsensical this film well and truly is this film opens with a character that's meant to be Adolph Hitler getting killed by a piranha in his own bathtub and trust me when I say that things only get more strange and more bizarre from there but that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my honest opinion anyways.
Another thing that makes this film super freaking strange and bizarre is the fact that there's very bloody and very violent third act confrontation which ends with two of the films side characters getting killed by a chainsaw. I'm convinced that Russ Meyer only included the scene that I just mentioned to you with the chainsaw because of the fact the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was released a few years prior to this film but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my personal and humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
Now then boys and girls believe it or not this film is a mystery film because when you think of a film with actresses like Kitten Natividad and Raven De La Croix you really think of them starring in a mystery film nd well to be blunt the mystery aspect of this film is so freaking bad that it might as well as not even be presented to us in this film. What makes the mystery element of this film really freaking bad in my opinion is the fact that we are given literally zero clues to who may or may not have killed Adolph Schwartz and the film doesn't advance the mystery element of the film at all as such when it's revealed who killed Adolph Schwartz not only does it come out of nowhere but it leaves you scratching your head because the film never built up to the big reveal of who killed Adolph Schwartz but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
Now thankfully this film does have a really / super short running time with the running time of this film being one hour and nineteen minuets and fifty five second so let's just round that up to a nice one hour and twenty minuets shall we and if i'm being honest even that short running time is still a bit long for this film. Since even tho there's more then enough story to cover that running time however since this film has alot of scenes which are basically just filler and nothing more then filler then this film can feel a bit longer then it actually is but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
Now then boys and girls as well as being a mystery film and a thriller film this film is also a comedy which means that I have to talk about the jokes that are presented to us in this film or at least I would have to talk about the jokes that are presented to us in this film if this film bothered to include any jokes. Yeah i'm not kidding there are no jokes at all in this film but like I always say comedy is always subjective and so what I might find funny you guys might find to be rather unfunny and what I might find to be unfunny you guys might find to be funny but even with that in min even bad comedies manage to get at least a smile out of me and this film never even managed to get a smile out of me but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and well as being in my very honest opinion anyways.
Overall out of all of the Russ Meyer films that i've seen this is perhaps his weakest film and heck / hell even Russ Meyer himself doesn't like this film that much and it's not hard to see why since there is alot of bad things to be found in this film. Now then boys and girls i've talked about both of the good and the bad things that are to be found in this film in this review and as such this film gets a 3.5 out of 10 from me.
As for where I got the images that I used in this very review well I got all of the images that I used in this review from Google Images and Nowhere else and since I only used Google Images and nowhere else to get the images that I used in this review. I have no choice but to recommend that you guys use Google Images if you guys want to use any image from this film but be warned very little if any of the images that I found for this film aren't very high definition or very high quality but that's to be expected since this film was a low budget film that was made in the mid-seventies but you've been warned either way.
