Jay And Silent Bob Reboot Review
Ladies and gents we are living in age full of remakes , reboots and sequels and well it was only a matter of time before a film started making fun of them. This is a film that i've been dying to see since the first trailer came out hell I even reviewed the original film so I knew what I was talking about when I did see the film and so then guys and girls here is my review of Jay And Silent Bob Reboot.
The plot of the movie Jay and Silent Bob discover that Saban Films are in the process of rebooting Bluntman And Chronic and so head of to Hollywood to stop it from happening. If the plot sounds like Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back well that's because it's exactly like Strike Back but that's also the point and it's the kind of story that only these characters could pull off since if anyone else tried it it just wouldn't work but with these guys it works great.
Reprising their roles from several Kevin Smith movies are Jason Mewes as Jay , Kevin Smith as Silent Bob and Himself , Shannon Elizabeth as Justice Faulken , Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks, Grant Hicks and Himself , Jason Lee as Brodie Bruce , Joey Lauren Adams as Alyssa Jones , Jennifer Schwalbach Smith as Miss McKenzie , Justin Long as Brandon , Matt Damon as Loki (not the Marvel version) and Ben Affleck as Holden McNeil.
They are joined by Harley Quinn Smith as Millennium "Milly" Faulken , Aparna Brielle as Jihad , Treshelle Edmond as Soapy , Alice Wen as Shan Yu , Craig Robinson as Judge Jerry N. Executioner , Joe Manganiello as Bailiff , Frankie Shaw as Prosecutor , Chris Jericho as the KKK Grand Wizard , Kate Micucci as Mary , Melissa Benoist as Reboot Chronic , Val Kilmer as Reboot Bluntman , Tommy Chong as Alfred and Rosario Dawson as Reggie Faulken.
Yeah the cast was so long I had to split it up due to how many names there are in this freaking movie it's honestly impressive how many big names are in this film. As for what I thought about the acting in the film it was honestly alot better then what I thought it was going to be i'll full on admit I expected the acting to be terrible but I was honestly shocked by how good the performances were every actor honestly got a laugh out of me that's how good the acting is.
This is where we do get into the negative side of things because there is a plot line in this movie which when it starts you know how it's going to end. I'm not saying what it is because it's thanks to that plot line that we get to see how great of an actor Jason Mewes really can be but at the same time I wish that the plot line that they give him was a little bit more unpredictable but at the same time it was a great plot for his character.
The film goes to great lengths to explain what makes a reboot different from a remake basically a reboot keeps alot of things the same but changes enough and adds in some diversity so they can call it a new movie where as a remake just remakes everything except now it sucks. That's honestly how they describe the difference between remake and reboot and to be honest I loved it mostly because it's so freaking true but also because it was funny as all hell.
Now I heard an interview with Kevin Smith that he and Ben Afflek had a falling out some years ago since Kevin was telling so many stories that Ben had told him. However after finding out that Ben hadn't heard anything about this film when he was interviewed Kevin was convinced to give him a call and because of that these to are now friends again so the power of Jay And Silent Bob has made people friends.
If you know Kevin Smith then you know how much of a fan he is of Stan Lee even giving him a cameo in Mallrats. So with the creator passing away before he could film any scenes for this film because yes he was due to appear in this film before he died and so the film does have a few nice tributes to him in the film which I thought was a really nice touch because he really didn't have to do anything and the fact that he chose to do so was a nice thing.
There is a plot twist in this film surrounding one of the characters which I didn't really like since it doesn't make sense. Even for a Kevin Smith movie this plot twist really doesn't make sense and i'm not going to spoil what it is because it does lead to an epic moment but one epic moment doesn't mean the whole twist is good the idea is funny enough but the execution is what kills it on my opinion.
This film was far freaking funnier then it really had any right to be i'm not kidding I was laughing alot more then what I thought I would. Alot of the jokes tho are references to other works which is something that I can see putting alot of people off but I honestly found them to be really funny alot of the time but for me and I think many others who saw the trailer the best joke is easily the name of Harley Quinn Smiths character Millennium Faulken that is pure genius right there and there was also a name of Chicken shop which was pretty funny as well.
Overall guys and girls the first chance you get go and see this movie especially if your a Kevin Smith or a Jay And Silent Bob fan. At the same time tho if you've seen that movie then you really don't need to see this movie since it's literally the same movie just retold and like I said I can see people not finding some of the references funny and in my opinion this is a really funny movie but also a flawed one and so it gets a 7 out of 10 from me and just so you guys know I resisted making a Chris Jericho All Elite Wrestling joke here so give me some credit.
