Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women Review
Movie fans I consider myself a man of sound mind so you can trust me when I say i've found a film which is so hard for me to even begin to describe but i'm going to go my best to give it a review just for you guys. Just to give you an idea of the quality of this film it's produced by Roger Corman who's known for turning in films cheaply and well this is the cheapest film he's produced here is my review of Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women.
The plot of the movie is a group of astronauts land on the planet Venus and find that it's full of women who want them dead. Yeah that's the closest thing to a plot that I could make out and it's pretty bad to be honest because not only does the movie take alot of time to even begin when it finally does start there's alot of scenes where nothing happens and the story itself is so freaking thin it's not enough story to fit the films nearly eighty minuet run time.
This film takes the Power Rangers approach in that they use existing footage and splice in new footage of American actors. In this case the American actors are all of the actors playing the titular women and so those are the only actors i'm going to be listing but all of the actors are going to be judged. So starring in this movie is Mamie Van Doren as Moana , Mary Marr as Verba , Paige Lee as Twyla , Margot Hartman as Mayaway , Irene Orton as Meriama , Pam Helton as Wearie and Frankie Smith as woman of Venus.
As for what I thought about the acting to say the American actors did a bad job would be a huge mega ultra understatement but at the same time from what i've read about the film it must have been difficult for them since they only shot those scenes in ten days. As for the other actors they are pretty solid but considering there footage comes from an earlier film which had a longer shooting schedule that's to be expected.
This film borrows footage from two Russian films the first being 1962's Planeta Bur and the other being the 1959 Russian film Nebo Zovyot. I will say that the scenes are well blended since you can't really tell what piece of footage is being dubbed over and which is original the issue is tho that they don't really tell a story and because of the fact that this film came out in 69 and the overs came out years earlier you can tell that in certain scenes there's a slight drop in quality.
Unlike Power Rangers which not only replaces the original Japanese actors they also come up with original plot lines. This film doesn't do that since this film has the exact same plot line of another film which used footage from Planeta Bur Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet which was also made by producer Roger Corman. So instead of choosing to use just a few scenes and create a whole new story they chose to use all of the footage and tell the exact same story.
For some reason this film has a narrator which is done by director Peter Bogdanovich and is the only role he takes credit for since the listed director is Derek Thomas. The narrator doesn't know when to shut up I honestly feel that at least 95% of the films story is told via narration and all it is is explaining the films story because you know filming new scenes with male actors makes far to much sense.
This film is so freaking boring nothing happens at all for large portions of the film and that's never a good thing even more so when the film is an hour and twenty minuets long. This is a film that I could honestly see someone like the Cinema Snob taking a look at and I have no idea why it just seems like the type of film he'd review so if someone knows how to request a review from him please request this movie.
Overall this film is so freaking bad I wouldn't recommend checking it out because you will be bored and so this film it''s getting a very freaking rare 0 out of 10 from me and this film is in the public domain so anyone can release this film and not get sewed.
