Hey There, It's Yogi Bear! Review

Well hello there animation fans and movie today i'm going to be giving you a review of what is a historic movie not only is it the first animated movie based of a TV show but it was also the first animated feature film directed by Joseph Barbera and William Hanna and that movie is Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!.

The basic plot of this movie is Yogi has to rescue Cindy who has gotten transferred to a circus. That was me making it really simple when in truth alot more happens to get the story going but alot of it is just pure filler and isn't needed and that really isn't helped when the film has pacing issues in truth the film could have done without all the padding that it has.

The film stars Yogi Bear stars Daws Butler as Yogi Bear , Don Messick as Boo-Boo Bear , Julie Bennett as Cindy Bear and the legendary Mel Blanc and Jean Vander Pyl and i have to say the acting in this film isn't that bad both Mel and Jean once again turn in great performances as do Daws and Don the only actor who i cannot make my mind on Julie Bennett because of two reasons 1) i really havn't heard anything else she's been in and 2) i really didn't know about the character of Cindy Bear so for me she is just ok in this film.

The animation is again a very mixed bag there are times when you can tell they made an effort but i'm guessing that they didn't have a huge budget because there times when it feels like typical Hanna-Barbera and by that i mean there's a lot of stilted movements which cheapens the look of the film which is a shame because this had animation great Friz Freleng working on it but not in the animation side of things tho.

To give this film some credits it does some funny moments there not laugh out loud funny but they will make you smile when they happen but the only thing is most of these moments happen early in the film before the main plot truly gets going but there is a few jokes in the third but not enough which is a shame since this is meant to be a comedy i think that if they added more laughs when the story truly got going then it would have fared a bit better but it didn't.

There is one plot element that to me felt really forced and that's the romance between Yogi and Cindy from what i can gather she always had feelings for him in the show but in the movie it takes Yogi nearly thirty minuets to realise he has feelings for her and it comes out of nowhere and it feels really forced.

The music was done by Marty Paich with songs done by Ray Gilbert and Doug Goodwin the songs really didn't do anything for me they all felt very samey to me and very cliche but what was really good was the music it's very light hearted and it helps make the jokes i mentioned before even funnier.

Overall out of the two cinematic Yogi Bear movies this one for me is the better one but that being said it doers have it's issues that i cannot ignore so for me this film is a 6 out of 10
