A True Look Inside The Mind Of Inside Out

Hello there animation fans and movie lovers i really love Inside Out i think out of all the films that came out in 2015 this one was the best one but the one thing i havn't really thought about was the psychology behind the film and after re-watching the film i thought that now was the time to talk about it.

When the film opens we are first introduced to Joy who is Riley's main emotion and it's made very clear when we first meet her and Riley that she would make sure Riley is a happy kid which turns out to be true but at the same time Joy doesn't let Sadness do anything so from a very early start Riley's mind is starting to block out Sadness and that's not a good thing as being sad is one of the ways that we as people tell others that we need help.

This blocking of Sadness altho not intentional at all is made even worse by the mother who tells Riley to put on a happy face for her father after they move so her mind becomes more determined to block out Sadness. Now when the movie truly gets going is when Joy and Sadness find them selfs in Riley's long term memory and this was when i noticed was the point when Riley basically becomes a zombie because she has no Joy or Sadness to balance out Anger , Fear or Disgust so she's just going through the motions ready to reach a breaking point.

Due to Riley being stressed not only about the move but also starting a new school which for anyone is always a stressful thing to go through she snaps at her parents after her first school day and gets mad at her best friend and this is all because up until this point in the film she has been told to keep on being happy and not be sad and due to the stress of moving she starts having more nightmares so more stress is added because now she's not getting a good nights sleep.

During the films third act Anger who is supposed to help Riley by protecting her from others gives her the idea to run away from home and the second he does that she starts to loose her Apathy so she's now even more cut off from the rest of the world and the film does show this lack of apathy by having the control panel that the emotions use to help Riley freeze up.

All through out the film we see how Sadness can be used to help people when Bing Bong starts crying because Riley has forgot him it's Sadness that comforts him not Joy and it's Sadness that ultimately helps Riley regain her apathy by gaining control of the control panel and again it's Sadness who helps Riley reconnect with her parents and admit that she misses her home town something that all through out  the film she has been trying to say to people but because Sadness wasn't there to help her do it she couldn't.

All throughout our lives we are told that Sadness is wrong and bad we even have drugs to help us repress it but this film proves that not only is it a handy emotion but it is perhaps the most important one to have because without it we would all be like Riley.
