The Peanuts Movie Film Review

When people think of comic book movies nine times out of ten they think of something from either Marvel or DC and that's fair enough as they two of the biggest comic book companies in the world. Yet no one or not alot of people know of the fact that Peanuts is a comic property as those characters are comic strip characters with the character still going strong in various specials and TV shows many years later with comic strip spawning five feature length films with the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today being the latest feature length film and so then join me as I review the film that sees Charlie Brown falling in love with the film in question being called simply just "The Peanuts Movie" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a new girl moves to town Charlie Brown sees this as a chance to start clean and does whatever he can to pick the courage to talk to her. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This films plot is a slice of live plot and therefor it wouldn't be wise to expect this film to have a plot with high stakes as that would be something that would go against the Peanuts brand as this is a film that really doesn't need to have high stakes. It just needs the characters to be there usual charming selfs and that's it and that's something that a small scale plot like this one allows them to do it allows all of the characters to be charming and remind you of just why they have endured for as long as they have done in the first place, heck this is also a case where the film not focusing on its plot oddly works as the films plot is meant to wafer thin in the first place that to call more attention to it would do alot more harm then good to the films plot and while yes it would have helped the film out a little it if there was more focus on the plot it really isn't something that's needed to make this films plot as what makes the plot of this film work as well as it does is the fact that it is telling this simple story of a guy just trying to talk a girl he likes and that's it and that's all it needed to be with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Noah Schnapp as Charlie Brown , Hadley Belle Miller as Lucy and Mariel Sheets as Sally. Also starring in this film is Alex Garfin as Linus , Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as The Little Red-Haired Girl and Frieda , Venus Omega Schultheis as Peppermint Patty , Rebecca Bloom as Marcie , Marelik "Mar Mar" Walker as Franklin , Noah Johnston as Schroeder , Anastasia Bredikhina as Patty , Madisyn Shipman as Violet , AJ Tecce as Pig-Pen , Micah Revelli as Little Kid , William "Alex" Wunsch as Shermy , Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews as Miss Othmar and The Little Red-Haired Girl's Mother , Kristin Chenoweth as Fifi and Bill Melendez as Snoopy , Snoopy's Siblings and Woodstock.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that we even have as good acting in this film as we do is truly something that is truly shocking as like all of the Peanuts productions all of the main actors in this film are kids and with that does come the fact that you never really know of what your going to get is good or not from an acting point of view and yet here in this film whilst yes some of the films kid actors aren't that good as was always going to be the case alot of them are really good. With the best actor in the whole entire film being Noah Schnapp as Charlie Brown as while today he is known for being in Stranger Things this film along with Bridge Of Spies was his earliest film role and yet you wouldn't know it as he is just so good in this film with him really getting just who Charlie Brown is as it would have been super easy for any young actor just to play him as someone who always loses but here in this film he is played as someone who yes does always loose but he's the eternal optimist he's always looking for the bright side and try again and that is something that Noah does bring out in his performance with him even having alot of really good chemistry with the films other actors with Noah even having his natural likability about him that does come through in his performance and that makes you really want to root for him With the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that were currently over at Blue Sky Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that this films animation is as good as it was is something that was great shocking as while Blue Sky did have good animation in there films they were never on the par of say Disney or PIXAR for example therefor you never rally knew just what kind of quality of animation that your going to be getting from project to project. Yet with this film they do give us animation that whilst it does stay true to the art style of not only Charles M. Schulz's original art style but also updates it in a way that makes the characters more appealing to today's kid audience who might not have heard of Charlie Brown with there being some really stunning sequences in this film like the imaginary air plane fight that Snoopy has with The Red Barron with the film even having hints of the comic strip like when the characters things of something that the film will then show us that thought in a very sketch kind of way or there'll be random lines that appear on the characters or around them these are things that that make it clear that the makers of this film are trying to copy what was done in the original comic strips whilst also making it make sense for a film audience and it is something that does work as this films animation is for lack of a better word here charming as while it will always be weird to see these characters done in 3D it is something that you do very quickly ignore as there is alot of for the characters put into this films animation.

If your expecting alot of the Peanuts gang to get a lot of screen time in this film then you best be prepared to be let down. As alot of them don't have alot of screen time in this film and whilst this is something that will upset alot of the fans of these characters it is also something that does make alot of sense as this film is meant to be about them all and while yes Charlie Brown is the main character of the film like as is the case with alot of the Peanuts films and specials alot of the other characters don't really need to do that all that much as they are so well defined in the first place that it would be pointless to try and include them into something where it would end up doing alot more harm that good with even alot of them not really being interesting enough to lead a Peanuts feature film. While alot of the gang don't have main roles in the plot of the film alot of them do have some small impact on the films plot like for example Sally who gets upset when her performance at the local talent show isn't that well loved and therefor Charlie Brown gives up his own spot in the shoe to help his sister out something which The Little Red Haired Girl at the end of the film says that she liked that he did that for his little sister of Peppermint Patty who along with Charlie rushes a test with them both handing it in at the same time and them both signing the wrong paper only for it to turn out that the paper that Charlie signed and got him that high score wasn't his it was hers thus forcing him to be honest these are things that while they indeed small do give those characters some form of an impact on the plot as they are both things that the Little Red Haired Girl says she likes about Charlie Brown and while it would have been nice if the other character like Franklin or Linus for example got to play a bigger role in the films plot it wasn't something that was needed as you still do get how this group operates regardless of if alot of them have a big role to play in the films plot.

In something that could be seen as being a bad move this film does feel like it's borrowing alot of stuff from the Peanuts comic strips as we do get alot of the gags that we think of when we think of Peanuts. This is something that will for sure appease alot of the people that grew up with reading the strips or that grew up watchin either the other films or the specials but the brand and the characters weren't as well known when this film was coming out and therefor there is a alot of the audience that might gave been put off by the characters doing these old gags and not find them to be all that good as this is a film that could have been used to get more eyes on the characters and on the brand and instead of getting the grown ups to watch the specials on their own it might then convince the kids to watch them with there parents due to this film having the same characters. However that is something that can't happen as the film does feel like it's trying to hard to remind the adults of why they loved these characters so much in the first place that's forgetting to let the new audience enjoy these characters that to them will be new and therefor it would have made more sense for the makers of this film to come up with stuff that whilst it is still true to the style of the Peanuts comic strip is also fresh and new as that is something that will give the films target kid auidence a reason to watch the film, however to be fair tho given the fact that there have been a handful of specials since the release of this film and that fact that A Charlie Brown Christmas still gets aired to this very day there very well could have been kids that knew of these characters prior to watching this film and the film really capturing the Peanuts style it's very easy to see this film making new fans regardless of if it's just sticking to what worked rather then coming up with new and fun things for the characters to do. 

Another thing that could be argued is wrong with the film is that despite her being a main character in the film The Little Red Haired Girl doesn't really do all that much. As for alot of the films running time she is just viewed from behind or has her face hidden with the character barely even getting alot of dialog in the film and yet the makers of this film expect us to buy her as the main love interest for the films main character and while it could be argued that this does still work it is something that would have worked even more if we got to see them spending more time together rather then just having a few short scenes near the end of the film as by that point in the film it is far to little to late for us the audience to really buy into there relationship. However tho this is something that could be argued is the point of the character as even in alot of the strips she appears in she is also being obscured by something and therefor for the makers of this film to do any different would feel like that there going against the Peanuts brand even tho it is something that would have made it easier for us the audience to really get behind the character as the character doesn't get to do a whole lot in the film and therefor showing us the audience that she might have feelings for Charlie Brown just by giving him a look is something that would have worked for making there potential relationship work out all the more better and while it still does work as they end as being friends more then anything else it still would have helped the film out a little bit more if the character did get to do a little bit more other then give Charlie Brown the pick me up at the end of the film.

Now then this film has / had an exactly grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty eight minuets and six seconds. This is kind of the exact running time that you'd expect a Charlie Brown film to have and whilst you'd think given the films slice of life plot that you'd really start to feel that running time at somepoint in the film the fact is you just don't with this being due to the fact that the films characters are so likable and the films animation is so charming that you forget all about the films running time and just sit back and watch the film and that is something that does work for the films advantage as it allows the film to be just as charming as well with the film having more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time. However tho the film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely due to the fact that this film really doesn't take the tie to fully develop it's plot with this being some thing that is kind of understandable as the films plot is still quite on the thin side of things there still should have been scenes that added something the films plot no matter how small it is as that is something that would have made the films plot feel more developed and while that is something that isn't needed for a comic strip it most certainly is something that's needed for a film with the makers of this film putting more thought and effort into the Snoopy dreams sequences then they are the films plot. This is also something that's true for the films character development as well as outside of Charlie Brown who learns that all of the things that he thought made him a looser actually make him a kind person none of the films other characters get any kind of character development and to be fair they really didn't need any even tho it would have been nice if they did get some with the makers of this film being more bothered about giving us classic Peanuts gags then they are about giving the characters character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well the in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the films comedy being one of the true highlights of the film due to the fact that it does feel like jokes that you would either see in a Peanuts special or film or read in a Peanuts comic strip with the makers oft his film coming across as die hard fans of the comic strip as it does feel like that they are going the extra mile to capture the spirit of the comic strip and give us jokes that would have been used in those strips. With the best joke in the whole entire film being the scene where Charlie Brown dances at the school dance as while the idea alone isn't that funny just seeing him do this awkward dance to just to hopefully maybe possibly get the chance to dance with this one girl that likes only for him to screw it up and cause the entire dance to come an abrupt end is a funny idea as it is something that does stay true to the hopefulness of Charlie Brown whilst also hitting him with a hard dose of reality and while that one joke is a very quick thing in the whole film as the film does have jokes last a lot longer what made this film the films joke be as funny as it is is the fact that it does also feel very true to life and is something that could picture happening in real life with the fact that is happens to Charlie Brown being something that makes it all the more funnier with the rest of the films jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this really is a film that needs to be seen alot more as it is a really good film that reminds the old fans of why they loved these characters in the first place but it also could do a good enough job of introducing these classic comic strip characters to a whole new audience as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well aa all of the bad things that are in his very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
