Enola Holmes 2 Film Review

When we think of Netflix films we don't usually think of films that have a sequel and yet for one reason or another when the first Enola Holmes films came out it struck a chord with people so much so that they had to make a second. Well now we are about a week away from the release of the third film and well I thought that i'd check out this second film to see if it still holds up and so then join me as I review the film that makes Sherlock look like an idiot for no reason whatsoever with the film in question being called simply just "Enola Holmes 2" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Enola takes on a missing persons case she stumbles upon something much more bigger something which is tied into a case that her brother Sherlock is also working on. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This films plot is one that is kind of straight forward as the film makes no attempts to give us a plot that has twists and turns in it with the film instead saving all of that for the films mystery and while this is something that does make sense it also makes the plot of this film seem oddly child like in nature. As when you watch something with the Holmes name in it you do expect the plot to be alot more better and be alot more complex and while there is nothing wrong with having a plot that is straight forward as these films are based off of kids books afterall there still should have been an attempt to make the plot of the film feel alot more mature as this film much like the others in this series will have a certain adult fanbase due to the fact that it is has Sherlock Holmes as a main character and while the plot of this film does get alot of focus it oddly feels like a lesser plot when compared to the plot of the first film as the first film had a plot that felt like it had something to prove to us the audience whereas here in this film that simply isn't the case at all with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is one of this films producers Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes and Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes. Also starring in this film is David Thewlis as Grail , Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury , Susie Wokoma as Edith , Adeel Akhtar as Inspector Lestrade , Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Mira Troy , Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes , Himesh Patel as Dr. Watson , Hannah Dodd as Sarah Chapman / Cicely , Abbie Hern as Mae , Róisín Monaghan as Hilda Lyon , Gabriel Tierney as William Lyon , Catriona Chandler as Agatha Gowerdale , David Westhead as Henry Lyon , Tim McMullan as Charles McIntyre and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Bessie Chapman.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. It is surprising that this film does have some really good acting in it as while the films more supporting characters are played by well established the fact does remain that alot of the films actors aren't that well known or are at the very least very little known and therefor it would have been foolish to expect all of the acting in this film to be as good as it is in the first place. With the best actor in this film oddly enough not being Millie Bobby Brown altho it very easily could have been rather it is instead Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes with him making for a pitch perfect Sherlock so much so that he could very easily play the character again in an official adaptation as he is just that good as the character with him being able to get the wit and all of the mannerisms of the character down perfectly which is something that he really didn't have to do and while he does have the advantage of already having played the character once before in the first Enola Holmes film here it feels like that he took what he did in that first film and then took it to the next level as all of the time that he is on screen you don't see Henry Cavill you see Sherlock Holmes which is something that does shine through in this final performance. With the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just the say lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Spin VFX , The Yard VFX and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Host VFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty OK at best. This is something that was to be expected to be fair as the companies that are doing this films CGI aren't that well known and Netflix films don't typically have good CGI in them in the first place therefor whilst it was still shocking that this films CGI was as good as it is it also could have been alot more better. With things not being helped by the fact that you can tell that the film didn't have a big effects budget as when the film does use CGI it does look a little bit to fake almost as if either the makers of this film didn't have enough time to get them looking as good as they could have done or they didn't have the money needed to make them as good as they could have done and while yes alot of this films CGU is just expanding on the films sets they do make it obvious that it's a CGI effect with the film even having alot of crowd extensions in scenes as well and while granted you can't really tell if they just copied and pasted a background extra over and over again it still does look a little bit weird as these films aren't big effects movies they never have been and they never will be with this being something that does make the bad looking effects in the film even worse as the makers of this film very well could have had more time to fix the bad effects and while yes granted alot of the time this film does have some good looking effects in it this is a case where the film has more bad effects then it does good ones.

This film commits a very bad sin in that it has several scenes in it that make Sherlock look like an idiot all for the reason of making Enola look good. This is something that should never ever be the case as Sherlock is meant to be one of the greatest detectives out there and yet there are scenes in this film where he does act out of character with him struggling to see the simplest of clues all for Enola to walk to them and spot them right away this is something that should never be the case as Sherlock would be the first one to spot all of the clues in the room less then a minuet after entertaing it as he's just that good at what he does and yet due to the fact that the makers of this film have to make Enola look better then him it means that he has to act out of character while she gets to look better then him. This is something that wouldn't be an issue if the makers of this film has used Mycroft and not Sherlock in this film and while they didn't use Mycroft because of the fact that they couldn't get Sam Claflin back to play him which is fair enough there then should have been more of an effort to have Sherlock still act like himself and make Enola look good as that is something that the makers of this film could have done by having Enola work out that Sherlock hadn't told her that he had found some clues and worked them out as he wanted Enola to do it herself as this is something that would be true to the character and it would make Enola look like a good detective but for one reason or another the makers of this film decided not to any of that and while there is case to make that he was like in this in the Enola Holmes books which again is a fair point to make if true but what works well enough in a book might not work well for a film as is very much the case here with this film not really doing a good job of making the Sherlock character look all that good to a modern young Netflix audience.

Much like with the first film there is a good dose of comedy to be found in this film all of which does work as well as could be expected. Whilst it is hard for me to say if this film is more funnier then the first film what can be said for sure is that alot of this films jokes do work as well as could be expected with Millie Bobby Brown proving herself to be a fine comedic actor with none of the films jokes undercutting the tension of the scene rather they are there just to be entertaining and nothing more then that with this being something that does work to this films advantage as it allow for us the audience to still be engaged with the films mystery and still have good laugh or two with the films characters in the process. Alot of the films jokes do come in the form of Enola breaking the fourth wall which granted is something that could be seen as being annoying but given the fact that they do it during the more important scenes in the film they do work with this being something that does allow for Millie to show of just what she can do as a comedic actor and while she might be more suited to doing physical comedy rather then the more word place comedy that she gets to do in this film when she does have a good joke it is something that does standout like for example when she invites herself to a ball she has a great little fourth wall break where she hides behind her mask and pretends that she's not Enola which is a dumb joke yes but it is also joke that you could see her character making as we forget that she afterall meant to be a young girl in this film and therefor she would make a dumb joke like that with even her mother getting a somewhat good joke during the prison escape scene where she just says your left or my left when she's told to to throw her bomb to the left which again is a dumb joke but it works because of the fact that its a dumb joke.

To give the film some sort of credit the mystery surrounding just who the main villain is is a very interesting mystery as it does keep you guessing all the way until the big reveal. Heck you could argue that its more interesting then the films main mystery as with the main mystery of the film we the audience are left to work out just why the character of Sarah Chapman is doing these crimes in the first place with the film not really giving us any clues so that we can work it out for ourselfs with this being something that the makers of this film should have taken the time to do as this is something that will be getting people to watch the film in the first place and yet it does feel like they didn't put as much thought into that as they could have done. You could even argue that the same thing is true for the mystery of who the main villain is meant to be as the film only cuts back to Sherlock working it out a few times and even then it only gets interesting when it's revealed that Moriarty is somehow involved with it only being revealed nearer the end of the film that Mira Troy is an anagram of Moriarty which granted might seem like it was pulled out of nowhere but given the fact that Moriarty is all about testing Holmes and trying to get the better of him it would make sense that he would hide in plain sight rather then hand clues in a more obvious with even the fact that the film does give us a very convincing red herring in the form of Grail with the only thing that could have made it better being if we got to see more of Moriarty in the shadows during the course of the film manipulating the events of the film to go a certain way as this is something that would give us the audience more of a reason to go back and rewatch the film and heck it might have helped to strengthen the films main mystery as again it would have given us the audience a reason to go back and rewatch the film to see if there's anything that we might have missed the first or second time round.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and ten minuets and fifty six seconds. This is quite a long running time for this film as by all rights this film really should have come in at well under two hours as that would have been a more then time for the film in order to tell its plot in a way that does justice not only to its plot but also to its characters as well and yet for one reason or another the makers of this film thought that it was best to stretch this film out to nearly two hours and fifteen minuets when all that does is make certain parts of the film like for example the portion where Enola is in jail feel like a shore to sit through whereas if the film was under two hours then the film would be alot more streamlined however tho the film does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time n the first place. Yet even tho this film is as along as it is the film still doesn't use its running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time that it more then has to fully develop it's plot as even tho the plot of the film does get alot of focus and attention given to it the makers of the film still don't add things to it that make it feel more developed when this is something that they really could have done as it would have made the films plot feel alot more better then what it already is with the it being obvious that the makers of this film cared more about the romance between Enola and Tewkesbury then they did in giving us a well thought out plot. This is something that does also kind of also affect the films characters as well as the film doesn't take the time to give any of the new characters any kind of character development which in the case of Sarah is something that does make sense as she was a real life person but it doesn't make sense for the rest of the films new characters with it really only being Enola and Sherlock that get any form of character development as they both have to learn that it's OK to work as a team with the makers of this film being more focused on making Sherlock act out of character then they are in giving all of its characters some form of character development but I really will admit that this very film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This films action is about as good as it's ever going to get as the focus of the film is more on it's mystery which is where it should be but in all fairness tho when the film really does have an action scene it is one that does have alot of thought and effort put into it with it being obvious that all this films actors are having the time of there lives during one of this films many action scenes. With the films best action scene bat none being the final fight fight at the theater as we get to see alot of the films main characters each get stuck in and have a really good and simple fight on there own with alot of them having there own mini boss if you will while Enola takes care of the big boss or who we are to believe is the big boss in Grail and heck out of all of the fight scenes that this film has this is the one that does manage to hold your attention as it does keep on managing to raise the stakes which is something that does make the action be all the more better as now if Enola does loose the fight then it does mean that Grail would kill her in this case by knocking of the surface that they both on high above the stage with it only being due to the fact that Enola managed to remember something that happened in her childhood and the fact that Grail had grabbed the fake knife that she's able to beat with and yet even so the character of Tewkesbury manages to have a mini plot in that scene where he has to learn to fight and finally hit someone something which he does do in this scene with the rest of the films action being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst the third film does look to be pretty decent and will no doubt draw a huge crowd for Netflix the fact that it's going to up against the release of X-Men '97 season 2 will mean that the numbers for the film might be as high as they were for this film with this film really being a very good film in its own right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
