Goat Film Review

Films about sports are a very common thig as it gives people the chance to create an underdog story and yet so few animated films do sports films. Well now we have an animated film that does also act as a sports film and well I thought that i'd check it out to see if it's any good and with Sony Pictures Animation bein on a role recently it is possible that this could be a good film and so then join me as I review the film that is all about basketball with the film in question being called simply just "Goat" enjoy.

The plot of this film is a goat named Will gets to the chance to play for his favorite basketball team but he and teams star player have to get the team onboard to win the big game and save the team from being sold off. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us inn this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this film was in all honesty not that bad as while yes this films plot is eerily similar to the plot of Rumble this film does at the very least try to do something different by showing the characters on the road and not have all of the action take place in this one city with even the plot of the boss selling the team to make some money being something that does make the plot of this film feel different but yeah that aside this films plot is still just a generic kids sports movie plot with nothing new added to it with the very bright spots that the films plot does have being vastly overshadowed not only by the rest of the films plot but also by the fact that the film uses dated terminology which does nothing more then date the film horribly but credit where it is due tho when the films plot wants to be good it can be a really good plot however alot of the time tho it just feels like something that we've seen in other kids sports movies only without the charm that made it stand out in those movies and here feel played out and that's really it with the plot of this film not really being really rather entertaining and nor is it really rather engaging either as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in his film is Caleb McLaughlin as Will Harris , Gabrielle Union as Jett Fillmore and Aaron Pierre as Mane Attraction. Also starring in this film is Nicola Coughlan as Olivia Burke , David Harbour as Archie Everhardt , Nick Kroll as Modo Olachenko , one of this films producers Stephen Curry as Lenny Williamson , Jenifer Lewis as Florence "Flo" Everson , Patton Oswalt as Dennis Cooper , Jelly Roll as Grizz , Jennifer Hudson as Louise Harris , Sherry Cola as Hannah , Eduardo Franco as Daryl , Ayesha Curry as Carol , Wayne Knight as Frank , Adam Pally as Gerald , Dwyane Wade as Rosette , Kevin Love as Daskas , Angel Reese as Propp , A'ja Wilson as Kouyate , Andre Iguodala as Iggy , Joe La Puma as Sneaky and VanVan as Adi and Ari.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us inn this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this film was in all honesty not that bad. With the films main actors turning in some really solid performances something which given who is starring in this film is about as good as you can expect from those actors however tho where the film does indeed start of to fall apart from an acting point of view is with alot of the other basketball players as it's clear that alot of them Stephen Curry included don't have that much acting talent and were only hired so that they can say that they hired real life basketball players to act in this film when it would have worked out all the more better if they got professional actors to play those roles with the best actor in this film being Nick Kroll as Modo Olachenko as he does come across as being the only actor that knows that he's in a bad movie and is just willing to have alot more fun because of it with his performance even getting the most laughs just due to how insane that he makes this already insane character out to be with this being something that does make his performance be all the more entertaining and while actors like Caleb McLaughlin and Gabrielle Union are good in this film it feels like that there trying to hard to make this film good when this film was never going to be that type of film with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Sony Pictures Imageworks. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the film pretty much using the exact same animation style that the studio came up with for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and then refined in Kpop Demon Hunters however whilst it works for the Spider-Verse films as the makers of those films used it to show the growth of Miles Morales as a character here in this film they don't do that and whilst yes this films animation does still look good you do get the feeling that this animation style is very quickly becoming the inhouse style for Sony Pictures Imageworks and is therefor going to be used in all of their films moving forward which is fine as it is a solid style but it's an animation style that should only be used in films that demand it as this film demands a more traditional approach to it's animation style as this is a film that isn't trying to be anything artsy or isn't trying to impress you with it's characters rather it just needs to have pretty animation and that's really it and to be fair to this film this film does have some really pretty animation to it with the backgrounds looking really detailed and lived in which was a nice touch and was one that the makers of this film really didn't need to include and yet they did so anyway and the characters do have some really nice looking movements to them all of which do make this films animation look really nice.

Please note that even tho it's never stated in the film for whatever reason it's blatantly obvious that sport that the characters are playing in this film is basketball. With them calling it roarball instead which makes no sense as basketball isn't a copyrighted term with the film even having several basketball players in it this wouldn't be a bad thing if the film came up with there own rules for the game and instead used basketball as the jumping off point for the game but they don't so it makes you wonder why they just didn't call it basketball in the first place as everybody who watches this film or even looks at the poster for the film knows right away just what sport it is that there playing and heck they even have there own version of NBA2K as they take great pride in showing us the 2K logo which again makes it pointless to call this game roarball even more so when you take into account that outside of a few moves the film doesn't really take full advantage of the fact that the characters playing this fictional game are animals which is something that would have warranted a name change as then you could argue that they are playing a different game but they don't even do that it would be like if in Rumble instead of using the word wrestling they used instead roarling but kept everything else about the the world of pro wrestling the same but at least in that film they did at least change up a few things by having each wrestling match play out more like a boxing match so there the name change would be warranted but here they change nothing about the basketball sport which makes it pointless to call it anything else.

After just quickly seeing what else has come out in the few weeks leading up to this films release this film should have no problem making some money at the box office as right now the only real competition that it is is Wuthering Heights 2026 and Good Luck , Have Fun , Don't Die which are two films that could take come money off of this film with the film getting even bigger competition next week when Scream 7 comes out. As lets be real here sports movies even those that are aimed at kids don't draw that much at the box office and with this film being about as generic as a sports movie that you can get then it is something that will cause this film to struggle to make money next week when more heavy hitting films like Hoppers and Scream 7 come out with the only thing that might cause this film to earn some money being the good will that the studio has built up with fans which even then isn't guarantee as this film wasn't really promoted all that much as there was next to nothing marketing wise released for the film outside of a handful of posters and a few trailers but that's really it which is something that does make it obvious that the makers of this film are relying more on good will and the fact that they have several basketball players in this film to help to sell the movie which in theory isn't a bad idea but in practice never works as you still need people outside of the fanbase of those players to show up and even then it's not certain that the fans of those players will even show up and watch the film in the first place whereas if the makers of this film did put some creative effort into the films marketing then they could have made some decent money with the fact that this film was released right before Valentines Day and on the same day as what is sure to be the biggest romance movie of the year in Wuthering Heights 2026 not really helping the film out all that much.

This film does struggle to find it's main villain as the film gives us several scenes where it could be one of three characters that could be the main villain. Only for the film to reveal it's actually the one character that barely gets any screen time , disappears from the movie for minuets at a time and who doesn't interact with quite literally any of the films main characters for alot of the films running time which makes no sense as while yes you do kind of need to have a bad guy in the film but when you do so poor of a job of building him up as a threat and instead build up to other characters one of whom only really starts of to be the villain in the final act of the film then it makes you wonder why the makers of this im even chose to have a villain in the first place as the character in question only does TWO things in the whole film that effect the characters in a negative way and even then the first one isn't done as an interaction with the character in question as it's done over a phone and while the second one does do a decent enough job of playing into one of the characters fears of not being ready to let go of the sport that she loves by that point it's far to little to late whereas it would have been more impactful if we saw this character interact more with the main characters like maybe he tries to by the teams home town or maybe he takes over the place where the main character and his friends all meet to play basketball just something would have done to give this character more threat and more menace earlier on in the film as then it would have given us the audience a chance to really dislike the character but having him appear for large portions of the film and not having him interact with the main characters just makes him out to be a really forgettable main character in this film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty five minuets and fifty seven seconds. With this being a solid running time for this film to have as it is pretty much the exact same running time that alot of animated films have as well with this film having just about the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place and yet this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time that it really should have done to fully develop it's plot with it seeming like that the film doesn't have that much of a plot in the first place with this being due to the fact that the films plot is so wafer thin that it does make it hard to work out just what the films plot is meant to be in the first place as the film put alot more thought and effort into showing the team bonding then it does in giving us a well developed plot as on paper this film should have been a home run just on it's plot alone with the film not even taking the time to fully develop it's characters either as all of the films characters come across as being very one dimensional as we don't get to find anything about alot of this films characters outside of Will and even then we don't get to find out that much about him at least not enough to make him an interesting character with really the only way to fix this being to give alot of the screen time that's spent on showing them bonding which is pointless anyway to instead showing us scenes that develop both the plot and the films characters but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that good. With the film not really having that many funny moments in it so much so that it would be easy to think that this films is more of a drama then a comedy due to the fact that the film does have alot more dramatic moments in it then it does have good jokes and with this film being more focused on giving us out of date terminology then it is giving us jokes that are actually funny with the only character who is somewhat funny in the film being Modo Olachenko with him even getting the films best joke as during the film when the characters are playing cards he keeps on thinking that there playing UNO and that's it which yes isn't that funny of a joke but it is something that is befitting this character as this character is meant to be someone who is insane and therefor having him mistake the two games is something that is befitting for his character but in saying this tho that is the only good joke in the film as the film is just straight up not that funny and while yes there might be some kids who find this film to be funny there will be alot more people who find it to be funny with this being something that the makers of this film should have fought to fix as they could have gotten some really good jokes just out of the films premise alone and yet they decided to instead give us jokes that aren't that funny this is despite the fact that the film does have some really funny actors in it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall if the choice is between this and the Wuthering Heights remake go and see this film as while both films are equally as bad there is some effort put into making this film be creatively bad something which cannot be said for Wuthering Heights 2026 as that film is just flat out bad in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
