The Muppet Movie Film Review

Muppet lovers everywhere we are now officially less then a week before Disney releases and airs the special revival episode of The Muppet Show. With the special promising to bring us the typical Muppet mayhem that we all know and love and well I thought that as a tie in review for that special i'd take a look at the film that proved that Kermit and co can work on the big screen as well as the small screen and so then join me as I review the film that proves that a bear's natural habitat is a studebaker with the film in question being called simply just "The Muppet Movie" enjoy.

The plot of this film is Kermit tries to go to hollywood to achieve his dreams of making millions of people happy and along the way he meets up with the rest of the Muppet crew and has to deal with an evil restaurateur with intentions of recruiting Kermit to promote his frog legs business. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being simply but delightfully so as this is the kind of film that doesn't need a deep and thought provoking plot to make it work as that's what the films characters are for rather it just needs to have a basic set up and just let it's characters do what they do best and that's be charming and to this end this is where the films plot is at it's best as we get to see the characters interact with each other in ways that just weren't possible in the original The Muppet Show and while the whole idea behind the plot of the film is to detail just how The Muppets mall met each other in the first place it's done in a very tongue in cheek way that helps to make the plot of the film be all the more charming then what it had any right to be with it feeling like that this films plot is being told to us by The Muppets themselves as it has this wonderfully chaotic energy to it that could only be brought by The Muppets with the plot of this films also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is this films producer Jim Henson as Kermit The Frog , Rowlf The Dog , Dr. Teeth , Waldorf and The Swedish Chef and Frank Oz as Miss Piggy , Fozzie Bear , Animal , Sam Eagle and Marvin Suggs. Also starring in this film is Jerry Nelson as Floyd Pepper , Crazy Harry , Robin The Frog , Lew Zealand and Camilla The Chicken , Richard Hunt as Scooter , Statler , Janice , Sweetums and Beaker , Dave Goelz as The Great Gonzo , Zoot , Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Doglion , Charles Durning as Doc Hopper , Austin Pendleton as Max , Scott Walker as Snake Walker and Caroll Spinney as Big Bird.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which is something that's not all all that surprising as all of the actors that are playing The Muppets had been playing for sometime on TV and in the case of Jim Henson had literally created them and would play them in TV interviews which does make that it would make sense that they would turn in some really good performances in this film as they would know there characters inside and out and would know how best to perform them with the films humans actors being as delightfully over the top as you'd want them to be in a Muppets movie as while yes there is a case to be made for going the Michael Cain approach and taking the role very seriously but there's also a case for just having fun with the role which is something that all of this films human actors do really well on this film with the best actor in the film being Jim Henson just because of the fact that there are scenes where it's just his characters and yet he somehow plays both of them with him doing a really good job of making all of his characters both sound and act differently enough from each other that you can tell who is talking when you close your eyes something which is also true for the rest of The Muppet performers as well with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Look one of the best things about any piece of Muppet media will always be the characters themselves with this also being true for this film as well. With all of The Muppets being just as likable on the big screen as they are on the small screen with this being due to the fact that the films writers Jerry Juhl and Jack Burns actually worked on The Muppet Show an therefor they had a chance to really nail who these Muppets are as a characters all of which are things that are translated in the movie as alot of what makes The Muppets work as characters are simple things like Gonzo being the put upon everyman who will do anything just because he can and Fozzie despite not knowing that he's not that funny still goes out there and tells these really terrible jokes with Miss Piggy being a drama queen and Kermit being the one sane person in the whole group who is just hoping to make it to the end of the day in one piece these are all things that have helped make these characters work so well for several decades now with the best TV shows and films from The Muppets being the ones that have those personality traits at the front and centre of the film where the film does slightly faulter is in it's human characters as none of them are really given alot of time to shine and to get across just what it is that they are like as characters which is fine as you don't come to a Muppet movie for the human characters you come to see The Muppets however in saying this tho it would have helped the Doc Hopper character be a lot more really memorable as a character if we really got to find out more about him and what it is that makes him tick with that really having the benefit of making The Muppets be all the more stronger as characters as well.

One of the many things that these Muppet movies are known for it's for pushing just what it is that you can do with a puppet. As on the show you would very rarely if every see the characters legs and you would never see there whole body and yet in this film we get to the characters full bodies in scenes where they are giving us dialog and we also get to see Kermit riding a bike something which we never really got in the how and it's things like that that does make you wonder how it was that they pulled them off as you could very easily show the characters whole body just by having two different performers performing both the bottom and top half of the character which yes would look a little bit weird but in the right setting it is something that could look really good yet it is still hard o work ut just how it is that they pulled of having Kermit ride his bike as if this was done in the show you'd just see the top half of his body and the top half of the bike and that's it but here in the movie you see the whole thing with the only real way that they might have done this is by having the bike be controlled by remote and have Kermits head controlled the same way with the effect looking really good with it doing the best thing that all effects should do and that's make you wonder how they did it which is something that is very sadly in today's day and age as sadly the answer is always CGI but there's doing something for real that will always look better and that's why having Kermit riding a bike will always look better then alot of the modern effects as you do have to work out how they did it as this is something that would have to have been done for real on the day of filming.

This and alot of the really good Muppet movies all have two things in common which is they all have heart and they all have good songs. With this film having plenty of both as there moments in this film that will make grown ups cry as the films heart is just so well done with the film being more mature with it's use of heart like actually having Kermit question if he's good enough to make it Hollywood and to be the leader of his friends or with Gonzo singing a bout how he wants to find a place to finally belong in "I'm Going To Go Back There Someday" these moments work because of the fact that the makers of this film treat there kid audience like adults and don't talk down to them with the same thing even being true for the films songs which were written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher with this film having some of the best songs in The Muppets history from the likes of "Can You Picture That" to of course "Rainbow Connection" bottom line there are alot of really good songs in this film that work so well because of the fact that the makers of this film went out of there way to hire people who actually knew how to write some really good songs and while it would be tempting to say that "Rainbow Connection" is the best song in the film which don't get me wrong it really is but I want to spotlight a different song with that song being "Movin' Right Along" with that song being this fun little number that does give us some really good jokes but by the characters and visual jokes as well with it being helped by the act that the song is sung really as well as could be expected from Jim Henson and Frank Oz.

While The Muppet movies are known for having lots of celebrity cameos with this film being no exception. Alot of them are sadly also known for having bad villains as well with again this film being of no exception to that rule as Doc Hopper really isn't that good of a villain as while yes he is threatening and has a clear end goal in mind he's not screen long enough to leave that lasting of an impact with him disappearing from the movie several times for long portions of the film so often that you do kind of forget that he's in the movie in the first place which does have the adverse effect of making him a bland and forgettable character as while the character on paper does work as someone who is after Kermit for his legs and will stop at nothing to get what he wants even threatening Kermits love Miss Piggy that is something that will always make for a good villain but there should have been more time devoted to his character and while granted that would have been hard to do given the fact that this is a Muppet movie it's not impossible as you could have done it during the intro of the movie of you could have had him appear more in the movie instead of just cropping up every so often as that would make him more of a threat and while having him kidnap Miss Piggy just to get to Kermit also achieves that goal by that point in the film it's far to little to late and heck we don't even get to find out why he's evil in the first place which it seeming like he's this evil person just for the sake of being evil where as that is something that would have helped to make him a better character as a hero is only as good as the villain that there up against with The Muppets needing someone that they can outsmart as that would make them better characters and Doc needing more screen time to make him a better character.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty five minuets and ten seconds. With this being something that is pretty much the bogstandard running time for all of The Muppet movies moving forward and to this films credit this film does have the perfect amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time however tho in saying this film doesn't use its running time all that wisely in one aspect as the film des take the time to fully develop it's plot as well as it could do as with a plot like this one you don't really need it to be that well developed as all you need is a basic setup and that's really it and to be fair that's all you get from this film anyway however tho the film doesn't take the time to fully develop alot of it's characters which for The Muppet characters is something that does make alot of sense as you could make the argument that they get there character development in the show and therefor don't really need it in the film but it's also something that affects all of the films human characters as well as characters like Max have no character development with him turning on Doc really coming out of nowhere when that is a plot point that should been hinted at in the film with not really landing all that well with us the audience due to the fact that like Doc Max has next to no screen time in the film when if the film was a little bit longer then that is something that would have allowed for things lie plot and character development and yet because of the fact that the film is more focused on giving us songs then developing it's characters it does mean that alot of the films characters feel really undercooked but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that' actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films jokes being really funny with this being due to the fact that all of the films jokes feel very true to characters and while the films jokes are more adult then what the Disney version of the characters would do it's those kinds of jokes that feel true to the characters as The Muppets did tell these more adult themed jokes as well as jokes that only little kids would get with all pf this films jokes both the ones said that are said by the characters and the films visual jokes being really well written with the films best jokes being where Kermit says to turn left at the fork in the road something which Fozzie does do when they literally pass a giant fork in the road which is just such a dumb joke that ends up being smart again with the film being filled to the brim with these jokes that are really funny and really smart like Gonzo saying that he thinks he's doing about five knots when Kermit asks him what he's doing when he's up in the air which again is a really smart joke but there a few jokes in this film that are now sadly dated like the correspondence school joker with Fozzie and the running joke with people saying that there lost only for someone to say have the tried Hare Krishna which is something that would be funny in the seventies but these days it's not something that alot of people really know about but when this film does tell a really good joke it is something that can be really funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall The Muppet Show special does have alot to live up to as The Muppets when there good like they are in this film can be really good with this film being a really good example of just how good that these characters can be when there handled by the right creative team in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally sued in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the mages that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
