Zootopia 2 Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review
When Zootopia first came out it was released when Disney was releasing nothing but hits interms if there animated output. With the film being so popular that it eventually spawned not only a TV anthology series on Disney+ called Zootopia+ but also a sequel well finally the sequel film has finally been released and you all just knew that I had to watch this movie the very first chance that I got and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that had alot of people oddly fawning over one of it's mew characters when it was first being marketed with the film in question being called simply just "Zootopia 2" enjoy.
The plot of this film is sometime after the events of the previous film Nick and Judy find there friendship and there partnership tested when they are forced to go on the run and have to help a snake prove that his great Grandma invented the cities weather walls. Now then interms of what I want I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with the best word that can used to describe this films plot being nothing more then average at best as that's exactly what it is with the films plot lacking that extra something that the plot of the film had which is odd as the films plot wasn't all that good either but here it felt like that the makers of the film had no real way to continue the story of this world and so they were just going through the motions alot of the time with this films plot being pretty weak as well even when compared to the plot of the first film as well with that first film actually having the stronger of the two plots but to give this film some credit it does have the same creative team as the first film and therefor plot wise it does feel more in line with the first films plots it's just that this films it just felt like that it was lacking something that you can't really describe until you see the film itself even right now trying to write this review it's hard to say what that something is as it's just something that this films plot does seem to be lacking with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps , Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Ke Huy Quan as Gary De'Snake. Also starring in this film is Fortune Feimster as Nibbles Maplestick , Andy Samberg as Pawbert Lynxley , David Strathairn as Milton Lynxley , Shakira as Gazelle , Idris Elba as Chief Bogo , Patrick Warburton as Mayor Brian Winddancer , Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby , Danny Trejo as Jesús , Nate Torrence as Benjamin Clawhauser , Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Hopps , Don Lake as Stu Hopps , Michelle Gomez as Captain Hoggbottom , David Fane as Truffler , Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i as Gene Zebraxton , Phil "CM Punk" Brooks as Gene Zebrowski , Stephanie Beatriz as Bloats , Wilmer Valderrama as Higgins , Jean Reno as Bûcheron and Chèvre , Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton , A French Raccoon Chef , Milt Kohl and A Reporter , Macaulay Culkin as Cattrick Lynxley , Brenda Song as Kitty Lynxley , John Leguizamo as Antony Sootley , the late Tommy Lister Jr. as Finnick , Leah Latham as Fru Fru , Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big , Raymond S. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances in this film which is something that does make alot of sense as alot of this films actors are reprising their roles from there first film and those that aren't are really good actors in there own right with the film even shockingly featuring the return to Disney for a few actors as well all of whom oddly feel right at home in this film with all of this films characters both old and new are perfectly well cast with it being hard to picture anyone else playing these characters with the same thing even being true for the films newer characters as well as no one is going to do as good of a job as Patrick Warburton does as Mayor Brian Winddancer as he just has such a very distinct sounding voice that only he could make that character work with the best actor in the whole film being Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps as she does get a chance to explore more of Judy in in this film where as in the first film we only really saw her more determined side where as here we get to see how this character would react when she's happy or when she's scared or how this character acts when she's being dramatic and it all works really well due to Ginnifer Godwin's performance as the character with Jason Bateman being just as entertaining as he was as Nick Wilde in the first film as well with the acting that's in this very film really bein helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the animation for this film is Walt Disney Animation Studios Vancouver and Shanghai Animation Film Studio. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally though / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as this film does have some really stunning animation to it but in saying that tho this films quality of animation does oddly feel lower then that of the first film even taking into account that this is the first project for Walt Disney Animation Studios Vancouver as while the film doesn't look lifeless persay it also lacks that high quality that you come to think of when you com to think of films that are animated by any Walt Disney studio but to be fair tho this film does have some really interesting backgrounds with the film taking as full advantage that it possibly could have done with it's backgrounds and heck even the water effects look really well done with all of the films characters having some really fun designs to them as well but there lacking fluid character movements with there movements feeling rather stilted almost as if this film was made on a tight budget which if it was it would have been excusable but it wasn't so there was really no excuse for this films animation for looking like it does with this and perhaps Moana 2 proving that Walt Disney Animation should stay based in America as that's where you get there best work but in all fairness this new studio could produce better work in the future but just based off of this film very stilted and unimaginative animation that doesn't look like that it will be the case.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whilst his friendship with Judy was handled really well in this film with it being made clear that even tho a week has passed since the end of the first film and the start of this one. They really did do Nick dirty in this film as they made him out to be the bad guy in their relationship when cracks start to appear when all of the things that happened that caused there friendship to faulter was due to Judy being reckless and not caring about Nick and yet for whatever reason the makers of this film thought it was wise to have Nick be the one that apologizes to her when they do stop being friends at the end of the films second act but tho to be fair the film does also have Judy not only admit to alot of the faults that she caused in the film but also apologize to Nick for what she did to him in the this film as well which is fair enough as she was to blame but Nick himself did nothing wrong as he was just trying to project his friend something which admits to near the end of the film whereas Judy was just thinking about the case and nothing more then that which granted is in her character to do so as it was something that she also did quite alot in the first film as well but it was done there because of the fact that she had something to prove to all of the other officers whereas here it feels like it's being done because of the fact that the makers of this film didn't know what to do with her character how it really stung with Nick due to the fact that out of the two of them they could have taken the time to add things to his character that would have made him more of a well rounded character and yet they don't do it in fact they basically make him a side character in the film with Judy being the films main character and doing something like that only works if you make he main character likable and due to how Judy treats Nick in this film she's not as likable as she was in the first film.
One of the minor issues that I personally had with the first film was that we didn't get to see much of the other towns and get to find out how they worked as the first film was mainly set in Zootopia itself. Well here in this film that issue has thankfully been addressed as we mainly spend alot of time in Tundratown with it being mainly made of ice and snow and seeing how that town works was really interesting and heck we even got backstory for the story for the town as well which ties directly into the town of Marsh Market which is where alot of reptiles hide as alot of them did originally live in Tundratown until the films villains got more land which forced the reptiles to live in what is basically the everglades which was interesting with Marsh Market even having it's own unique look to it as well with the story of Marsh Market being quite heartbreaking to see as it basically meant that families not only lost there homes and friends but that there was also a good chance that alot of those families got split up and it's something that makes you wonder just what else Zootopia is hiding with this idea now making it possible for alot of other animals in more lesser known towns and market places being able to show up in future films and projects and heck both towns could even make for great levels in Disney games as well as they do look like fun towns to either explore in or race around with the only thing that lets both towns being the fact that we get to spend long in either town as the film does spend quite alot of time in Zootopia itself which is something that does make alot of sense as the characters are based there but at the same time you promised us all of these different towns with different environments and yet we're barely getting the chance to see them.
Much like with the first film this film does also use a surprise villain and it's not the one that alot of us thought that it would be as the surprise villain isn't Gary. Rather it's actually Pawbert Lynxley who despite him working with Gary and Judy for alot of the film is actually trying to earn the love and respect of his family who want the deed that actually says that Gary's great Grandma invented the towns weather walls and not there relative Ebenezer Lynxley but whereas the reveal of Dawn Bellweather worked well enough in the first film as it was something that you generally didn't see coming here it doesn't really work all that well as now we the audience are actively looking for a surprise villain and therefor when they reveal that Pawbert is actually a bad guy it's not as surprising as it really could have been as we don't see his family act all that antagonistic to him where as with Bellweather we saw how badly she was treated and how ignored she felt with her feeling someone what of comrade ship with Judy because of it and yet here we get none of that but in all fairness it is quite funny hearing Jake from Brooklyn Nine Nine trying to be a scary villain and with him even refusing Judy's advice that would help him change into a better person it is something that does hit the film theme home in that not all people want to change who they are as sometimes people want to stay evil as was the case here even if his plan wasn't the best one as even tho he comes from a very wealthy family and could have gotten any information that he wanted when he wanted in Pawbert still felt that it was best to get close to both his initial target and a cop.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty eight minuets and forty two seconds. Which to be fair to this film is pretty much the exact grand total running time of the first film with this film even having more then enough plot there to really cover this amount of running time in the first place however tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely tho as the film doesn't take the time that it needed to to fully develop it's plot with the film being more focused on both getting rid of alot of the first films characters or just ham fisting in cameos from other characters like for example with Flash as there was no need for his character to be the one to get Nick and Nibbles to the location where Judy , Gary and Pawbert are as that could have been any other character and it would have made sense with the film even having Clawhauser and Chief Bogo in what are basically cameo roles in this film this is despite the fact that they played pretty big roles in the original and yet because of the fact that alot of these character were forced into this film it does mean that screen time that could have been sent developing the films plot is now spent with characters that aren't all that important to the plot of the film with this even extending to the fact that the films characters don't et any kind of character development and while this is excusable for Judy and Nick as it could well be argued that they got there development in the previous film it is something that does effect the films newer character even more so as it means that they do come across as being wastes of good ideas for characters as the makers of this film really don't take the time to make us the audience care for any of them but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As there are some funny moments in this film with the reveal of Flash being the one to drive Nibbles and Nick to where Judy is in his sports car being one of them however tho this film isn't as funny as the first film as the first film did have alot of cut busting character driven jokes that worked really well as they felt like the kinds of jokes that these characters would make where as here despite the fact that the film does have some really good jokes in it with the best example of this also being the films best joke as there's a scene near the end of the film where Nick and Judy confess to all of the things that they've done to each other in this film with the two of them slowly starting to try and outdo each other on how did the worst thing which is a funny joke and is a good example of how funny that this film could have been if the makers of this film did put alot more effort into giving this film some really funny jokes and not just forcing in cameos from the other film as when this film wants to be funny it can be really funny but there's just not that many funny jokes in this film this is despite the fact that this film does have the same creative team as the previous film and yet it felt like that they couldn't come up with things that all that funny as the film does go along time with out there being joke however when the film does tell a funny joke it can be a really funny joke that works well for these characters in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall out of the two films this one isn't the best one as it does fail to recapture the magic that the first one had so effortlessly but in saying this there is alot of effort put into this film as you can tell that the makers of this film are trying to make a good film there just not able to do so in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grad old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the im ages that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
