Superman 2025 Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review

We are now in the era of a new cinematic universe one which whilst yes it did officially start with the animated show Creature Commandoes. Will really start for mainstream audiences with the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today and while a certain subject of people who loved the previous cinematic universe will be upset they have to face the fact that there cinematic universe flopped and flopped hard and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that sees Superman and world's best boy team up to take on Beast from the X-Men prequels with the film in question being called simply just "Superman" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Lex Luthor starts to spread lies that Superman is actually trying to take over the world it's up to the man of steel to stop him and his real plan before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as this is a plot that's perfect for the Superman character as this is a character that doesn't need these deep and dark complex plots to make him work as that's not in his character whereas Batman is a character does deserve a deep , dark and complex plot because that's more true to his character with Superman you do want something a little lighter as he's all about hope and spreading it to others something which does come through n this films plot and while yes granted this is a plot that could have been done alot more better for the first film out for this take on the character the plot of this film was as good as it was ever going to be but at the same time tho this films plot isn't the strongest plot to start the new cinematic universe out on as the films plot is hard to work out alot of the time as the film is more focused on the characters relationships then it is in telling a good plot and fair enough the plot to Superman: The Movie wasn't the strongest either but that film had the excuse of having to tell the entire origin story as well as it's main plot whereas with this film the only thing that's stopping it from focusing alot on the plot is the fact that it's puts more time and effort into the characters relationships with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman , Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific. Also starring in this film is Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho , Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern , Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl , Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen , Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher , Wendell Pierce as Perry White , Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard , Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant , Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe , Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent , Neva Howell as Martha Kent , María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer , Zlatko Burić as Vasil Ghurkos , Stephen Blackehart as Sydney Happersen , Terence Rosemore as Otis , Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. , Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CG that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films acting being just as good as you'd want it to be as alot of the films that are directed by James Gunn always have alot of really good acting in them something which does shine through in this film as all of this films actors do turn in some really good performances in this film and while actor David Corenswet won't ever top Christopher Reeve and what he did with the role he does still in good performance in his own right with him being a really good actor in his own right as well and if you want proof of that just go an watch the 2022 horror film Pearl as he's just as good in this film as he was in that film with the best actor in this film being either David Corenswet or Rachel Brosnahan as both of them are just so good in this film with them really capturing the spirit of their characters whilst also putting there own unique spin on them that really does help to make the characters there own something which would have been really hard to do given just how long that the characters have been around and heck even actor Nathan Fillion really is just as good in this film as well with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic , Weta FX , Framestore and Legacy Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films CGI being alot more better then what it really could have been as by all rights this films effects could have been really bad however due to the fact that James Gunn has said that he's more then willing to give the effects teams the time that they need to give the films in the DCU all of the good effects that they truly deserve with this film being a perfect example of that as while yes the film does have some pretty bad looking effects you could make that case for any film as well as that's not something that's just for this film however this film does have more good looking effects in it then it does bad looking ones with even the films flying effects that got alot of hate when the teaser trailer first came out actually look really good in the finished product with the same thing being true for alot of the monsters that the man of steel has to fight in this film as they all have some really good and fun looking designs and they all work well in this film as they do look like that they could be in a comic book which is perfect for this film as this is a film that truly embraces the fact that it's a comic book movie with the films effects more then reflecting that attitude and due to that they films effects do look really fun as well.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not there are some names that were actually left off of the cast list with those names being John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker , Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl , Bradley Cooper as Jor-El , Angela Sarafyan as Lara Lor-Van as Superman's helper robots we have Alan Tudyk, Grace Chan , Michael Rooker , Pom Klementieff and Jennifer Holland , Michael Rosenbaum even voices one of Lex's Raptar guards and even David Corenswet actually has another role in the movie as he also plays Ultraman. While this does admittedly sound like it's a little bit two much setting up for the DCU it is still fun to see these actors pop up in these roles and while it was all but guaranteed that Milly Allcock would at somepoint show up in this movie given that her solo movie is the next film to be released in this new cinematic universe it was still a fun surprise seeing play a drunk Kara Zor-El which does make you wonder if that's how the character will be in her own movie as if that is the case then it won't be that fresh due to the idea of having a drunk superhero already been explored in the film Hancock but at the same time given that Kara is also meant to be a teenager it would make sense that she would go to a planet with a red son just to get drunk but it is still a bit over the top having all of these cameos in the film as it does feel like that James Gunn was just casting his friends and family members in roles for the movie which does make the movie seem overstuffed with cameos where as if you were to compare this film to the first Iron Man film we only got two cameos in the whole film and that was really it where as here it felt like that there was a cameo every few seconds which does seem to be a little excessive but still fun none the less.

To give this film at the very least some credit it does have some good ideas like the idea of having he villains invade the Fortress Of Solitude fir example. The issue is however is that that idea would be better suited for the Superman sequel should one get made as this i a place that's meant to be Superman's one and true safe place the place where he is meant to be safe no matter what and that is something that should have remained the case for this film as having the villains invade what is practically his home would mean alot more to us the audience if it was something that happened in the sequel as we would have had alot more time to really get to know Superman as a character and so when the villains enter the Fortress Of Solitude in this film we don't feel anything because not only is the film just starting when it happens but this is a new version of the Superman character , this is a new world for these DC heroes ad these are new rules that need to be set up and while the film doesn't thankfully do the origin story for Superman instead the film just glosses over it the makers of this film still could have taken there time in getting the villains inside the Fortress Of Solitude with the film being filled to the brim with ideas that would have been better off being in this films sequel as we are told that Lex has spent years collecting fight data on Superman but we are never shown how he did it and we are told that Clark and Lois have this great relationship but we don't find out how they met or anything like that with the idea of Lex having collected all of this fight data being something that would have worked better in the sequel as would the idea of Clark and Lois being madly in love as then we would have gotten the chance to see them meet up for the first time and go through all of the things that new couples go through only now it's on a super level and as for Lex we would have been given the chance to see his hatred for Superman grow so that it's more believable that he would actually collect all of this data on Superman.

The one thing that the previous DC Extended Universe got a lot of hate for was the fact that they turned Superman basically into Batman as they made Superman this dark and brooding hero who doesn't know how to crack a smile. Something which is thankfully fixed in this film as this version of the character is not only smiling and actually has a colorful suit but is also cracking jokes and is actually hopeful to people and gives people hope all of those things are things that Superman should be with this being the case because of the fact that James Gunn himself admitted to being a comic book fan prior to taking on the role of boss at DC Studios something that Zack Snyder quite clearly wasn't as he made the character so unlike what came before him that it might as well as be a different character all together now that's not to say that Man Of Steel or any of the DCEU films that featured Superman where bad because alot of them were just OK at best but when you fail to even get the basics down about who Superman is as a character because might interfere with your vision for the character then you need to take a step back because the things that your saying might interfere with you take on the character could also help to inform it and might actually help to improve it while this films take on the character isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination it's still a damn dight better then what we had been getting as this film does still make an effort to stay true to who Superman is as character by having him inspire hope in others and be the kind and hopeful person that he's always been.

This film does oddly enough carry on the tradition of having Lex Luthor be the main bad guy in the first of a new line of comic book Superman movies. With this film even carrying on the tradition of making his scheme be more related to land then anything else as he wants to invade a foreign country just to name himself the ruler of it which is something that does feel like it would be right at home in the comic books as it is a really over the top especially given just how far Lex is willing to go to achieve his goal as he even has a device that can create a black hole something which he not only uses in the film but also can't quite control but because he's so driven by his huge ego he just doesn't care as he just wants Superman dead by any means necessary and if that means wiping out not only himself but the entire earth to do so then so be it with the makers of this film going to extreme levels to make sure that we really hate this character as he not only has the bestest of good boys Krypto dognapped and in a way tortured but he also has a man killed in cold blood all because of the fact that he couldn't tell him any information regarding who Superman's secret identity is which to be fair to this film will be more then enough to make him really hated as a character but at the same time it doesn't make him that memorable of a character as while yes he does take a huge dive of the deep end during the film he's also meant to be the smartest person in the room and therefor he would have thought of several ways to get any piece of information that he needs about Superman before resorting to killing someone which is something that Lex himself wouldn't do as he would have one his guards do it for him.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty eight minuets and fifty seconds. Which is a really solid running time for this film to have as this film really does have more then plot there in order to fully cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as it's doesn't develop the plot of the film all that well with it being hard to tell just what the plot of the film is meant to be alot of the time with the film being more focused on showing us just cute Krypto is and showing us all of the funny things that he's doing then it is in developing it's plot and while seeing how cute Krypto is and seeing the funny things that he's up to is great every once in a while alot of the film is more focused on him so much so that it feels like a Superman movie and more like a Krypto movie where Superman just so happens to be a character in it with the film not even taking the time that it really did need to in order to fully develop it's characters as alot of the films characters aren't given much time to get across just what there personality is like outside of what we've seen from them in the trailers or what we know them to be from the various other forms of media but this film does get a slight pass for this as this is only the start of these characters journeys and so they of course can't knock it out of the park on everything the first time out but there still should have been some effort to make the films characters feel like there more one dimensional characters but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to is in this very film was in all honesty really good. With there being alot of really good action scenes in this film all of which are just the right amount of over the top without going so far over the top that they become a parody of themselves which is something that does work well for this film is this is a film that's not afraid to be a comic book and does fully embrace it's comic book roots in all of the best ways possible with the films best action scene being the films third act as we get to see all of the heroes teaming up and using there powers to top this invasion from happening all the while Superman and Krypto and trying to defeat Lex Luthor with it always being cool seeing a bunch of heroes working together using their powers and that's something that's also true for this film as while the main story of the action scene will always be Superman and Krypto taking on Lex and his goons when you add in the story of the other heroes trying to stop this invasion that Lex wants to happen so that he can become king it really is something that does come together really well to create a truly wonderful third act with this film having alot of really good action scenes in it all of which work really well and while there all really good with them having the right amount of humor that doesn't undercut the tension of the scene its the films third third act fight that's the best of the bunch because of how much fun that it is in the film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall go and see this film the first chance that you get as it's a film that actually does get Superman down right and while some of the Zack Snyder fans really will do anything to convince you that this is a bad film you should go and see this film and form your own opinion as this is a film that's really worth watching as that's just how good that this film really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all pf the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official DC Universe fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official DC Universe fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the official DC Universe fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official DC Universe fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
