Smurfs Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review

The Smurfs are characters that have been around for decades and have been appearing in films and TV shows since the seventies. Well there latest film despite coming out in English speaking countries this Friday the film has shown up on "certain" websites as the film has already been released in Brussels and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that copies The Smurfs 2 and that who's marketing really wants you to know that Rihanna is in this movie with the film in question being called simply just "Smurfs" enjoy.

The plot of this film id when Papa Smurf is kidnapped by Gargamel's brother Razamel it's up to Smurfette , No Name Smurf and a bunch of other Smurfs to save hi before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time this films plot really isn't all that good either as it's a plot that we've seen played out in both of the live action Smurfs films which does make this film feel really uncreative as one of the things that people hated about the live action Smurfs films was it's plots and therefor it makes no sense for this film to straight up copy elements of them with this film plot not even being that well developed and thought out as the film sets up so many things but then forgets about them for large portions of the film only to bring them at the most unexpected moments which does make this films plot feel all the more worse then what it already is the plot of this film also gets alot of basic things wrong about The Smurfs all of the sake of it's plot whereas with the previous film as bad as that got it knew to keep the characters and the lore as people know them to be and not to straight up copy the plots of two films that people just straight up loath instead of getting rid of all of that for no good reason whatsoever as that's just disrespectful to the people that grew up with these characters in the first place with the plot of this film also not really being really rather entertaining and nor is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is this films producer Rihanna as Smurfette , James Corden as No Name Smurf and Nick Offerman as Ken. Also starring in this film is JP Karliak as Gargamel and Razamel , Dan Levy as Joel , Amy Sedaris as Jaunty , Natasha Lyonne as Mama Poot , Sandra Oh as Moxie Smurf , Jimmy Kimmel as Tardigrade , Octavia Spencer as Asmodius , Nick Kroll as Chernobog , Hannah Waddingham as Jezebeth , Alex Winter as Hefty Smurf , Maya Erskine as Vanity Smurf , Kurt Russell as Ron , Xolo Maridueña as Brainy Smurf , Hugo Miller as Clumsy Smurf this films director Chris Miller as Grouchy Smurf , Billie Lourd as Worry Smurf , Marshmello as Turtle , Spencer X as Sound Effects Smurf , Chris Prynoski as Way Back There Smurf and Quiet Smurf and John Goodman as Papa Smurf.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As there are some decent actors in this film the issue is tho is that alot of this films actors where quite clearly cast because of the fact that there a big named celebrity and not because there a good fit for the character that they've been cast as case in point being Rihanna who was only cast because of the fact that she's the films producer and that's it as she has a voice that doesn't mesh well with the Smurfette character and while James Corden can be a good actor just look at any episode of Gavin & Stacey as proof of that here he just felt miscast he would have made for a solid Clumsy Smurf as then he would be allowed to be a little bit more goofy but here as a new character called No Name Smurf he just feels out of place with the only two actors in this film that are actually trying to put in a good performance are JP Karliak as Gargamel and Razamel and John Goodman as Papa Smurf as both actors are at least trying to turn in a good performance in this film with them both one of the true highlights of this film from an acting point of view and while the film does have some solid actors in it alot of them are either underutilized alot of the time or are just phoning in their performances with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad is it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be n the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Cinesite , Ghost SFX and Myriad Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time this films animation isn't all that good either as it's trying to mimic the animation style of the Spider-Verse films without realizing what it was that made that animation style work so well in the first place as there's nothing in this film from an animation point of view that adds to the story being told in the film where as in the Spider-Verse film they actually told a story through the animation by having it get more smoother the more that Miles got used to his powers which added to the overall experience of the film where as here none of that is present and while yes granted we do get some nice looking shots in this film but that doesn't mean that the animation itself was a good alot of the time and heck even in the previous Smurfs movie the animation really came alive and helped to sell alot of the jokes where as here that just can't happen because of the fact that the film also has live action backgrounds and therefor the animation can't look as good as it could have done with this being something that does hold the films animation back as if the film went fully animated then the animation would have that stronger chance to shine that it really does need and while there are scenes in this film that does show off just how good that this films animation really could be those are very few ad far between.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This film has another huge problem and sadly it's one that's going to prevent it from being a hit film as much like Elio this film has received next to little marketing. With there only being two trailers one of which was the films teaser trailer and a small handful of posters and that's really it and interms of social media again much like with Elio prior to it's release it's been raid silent as none of the official Paramount Pictures accounts have said a thing about this movie and when you add in the fact that this film is sandwiched in between two big superhero movies those being Superman which is currently crushing it at the box office and the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps both of which are being very well marketed by there respective studios it is something that makes this film all but guaranteed to be a flop and it makes you wonder why studios recently have decided not to push alot of their movies as they'll give alot of the big live action movies alot of marketing but when it comes to there lesser known animated film you have to go out of your way to find anything about them just for fun today when I was out I counted how many times I saw an advertisement for his movie on either a bus shelter or a bus or even a sign and you know how many I saw ONE poster on the side of a bus that and was it as that's just how badly done that this films marketing has been heck even Elio got more of a push from PIXAR then what this film is currently getting studios need to learn that just slapping an IP name on a movie doesn't guarantee that it'll be a hit movie because your audience will have no idea that the movie is even being released in the first place.

Unlike any of the previous Smurfs films this one is a musical film with it actually being hard to say just who wrote the songs for this film as there is no song writer credited. With it also being made painfully obvious why Rihanna was hired for this movie as she wrote and performed some songs for this film but sadly tho with there being no song writer listed online there are also no track list for the songs this is despite the fact that h there is a soundtrack album for the film out featuring songs that are either from the film or are inspired by the film on it with the films songs being just OK with them not really being anything special if you like Rihanna as a singer then your going to love this film as she does get alot of songs but all of the films songs hers included don't really add anything to the plot of the film and do feel like that there just to sell the soundtrack album with none of the Smurfs outside of No Name Smurf and Smurfette getting songs in this film which does defeat the point in making this film a musical as a musical version of The Smurfs could work and could be good if you actually gave The Smurfs good songs to sing and that those songs actually add anything to the plot of the film instead of just hitting home what we already know about the characters and while some of the songs are good there all just not that memorable and are the kinds of songs that you'd expect to find a low budget kids animated film and not something that you'd expect or even want to hear in a film that's being released by a major film studio as alot of this films are just generic at best as you could have them play during any other kids film and it would make sense as that's how little that they connect to this film and heck none of them don't even have the word Smurf in them either.

While it is to be expected that the film would feature Gargamel as one of it's main villains what wasn't to be expected was the fact that the film has him stop hating Smurfs and team up with them in the third act. Which fair play to the makers of this film is something that you won't really see coming but at the same time there's a reason why you won't see it coming and that's because of the fact that it's against his character to do so with the films main villain instead being his brother Razamel whose evil scheme is collect the last of these four books with the final one having been hidden in Smurf Village which he then plans to combine to give himself alot of power that he can then use to suck all of the goodness out of the world which to be fait to this film is a pretty decent plan but that's also the problem with alot of this film as everything is just decent and nothing is great with alot of this being due to the fact that the film does all of the legacy characters about Smurfette really badly with Papa Smurf being turned into someone who is willing to lie to all of the Smurfs and even say "that there's no magic" when he himself uses magic in not only the two live action films but also the original show and Gargamel gets butchered in the way that he's basically been reduced to being a henchmen for his brother and is basically a side character and while the film does get some points for coming up with an original villain that doesn't mean that the legacy characters have to get done badly just to prop up the new ones as at the end of the day the films target kid audience won't remember No Name Smurf but they will remember Papa Smurf because of the fact that they grew up with that character and to do not only him but alot of the other legacy characters as badly as they do in this film just goes to show you that the makers of this film don't care about The Smurfs this is despite the fact that Razamel actually has somewhat of a decent plan as well.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and nineteen minuets and thirty three seconds. Which does make this film one of if not the shortest Smurf film out there and it's something that really does show as this film really does have the right amount of plot to just about cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the plot does feel like it's rather underdeveloped as the film is alot more focused on giving us at best average songs then it is in giving us a plot that's actually good and well developed when all the film had to do is give us a well done plot and then it wouldn't matter if the songs where OK as us the audience would be alot more invested in the plot of the film with the same thing also being true with the films characters as well as even for a Smurfs film the characters are very one dimensional at best with the makers of this film really giving us a reason to care for any of the films characters like why should we audience care that No Name Smurf is pretty much copying Smurfette's plot from the last two movies if the makers of this film don't care enough to not only make his plot interesting but also make him an interesting character something that this film doesn't do as the issues with these characters are that and these issues something that could very easily be something that could have been fixed very easily just by giving us a re-write of the films script as you can do a kids film that has some songs but also has a good and well developed plot and well done characters as well but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films comedy being one of the very highlights of this film as the film does have a very talented comedy writer in Pam Brady who of course co-wrote both South Park: Bigger , Longer &b Uncut and Team America World Police with her bringing her talents to this film and making what could have been seen as a badly done comedy be something that does have a few decent jokes in it with the best joke in the film being the fact that during the films third act Smurfette , No Name Smurf and Razamel chase each other through all of these different dimensions with the characters even taking on the art style of what dimension that there in with the trio eventually ending up in an anime inspired world which does look really good and is a good example of just how creative that this film could be when it once to be and while the film does have some pretty bad jokes in it they are very few and far between and while yes granted this films jokes will never be that good due to the fact that it's film that's being made for little kids even for a little kids film this films jokes are alot more better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights this film should have failed at being a comedy but for one reason or another this films jokes aren't that bad with the film having some pretty decent jokes in it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall wow is this film just an average film as everything that's about this film is just exactly that it's average with it being made clear as day that the makers involved with the making of this film didn't care about making a great film and that the films studio Paramount Pictures don't care about this film because if they did then they would have given this film alot more marketing then what they gave it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5 out of 10 from me.

Now the as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official PIXAR fandom wiki page , the official The Smurfs fandom wiki age , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
