Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer Film Review

In just a few short days time the newest live action Fantastic Four movie will finally be hitting the big screen. With the new movie also featuring Galactus and a version of the Silver Surfer the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today is quite literally a perfect tie in review for the new movie as it also features both of those characters quite possibly in the same roles that they'll be playing in the new movie as well and so then join me as I review the film does Galactus just as badly as the Green Lantern movie did Green Lantern with the film in question being called simply just "Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a cosmic entity calling itself Galactus sets it's sights on destroying earth it's up to the Fantastic Four and there old foe Doctor Doom to team and hopefully save the day. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as it's a plot that is as corny and cheesy as you'd want from a Fantastic Four movie but at the same time tho this films plot also isn't all that good as this film was made at a time when comic book movies weren't getting treated seriously and therefor they had these really weak plots to them with the same thing also bein true for this films plot as well as it's about as weak as it comes with the plot of the film not being that well handled and really being held back by the films PG rating as this is a plot that demanded a higher rating just to do it justice and while the plot of the film does get alot of focus it's not the strongest of plots with it feeling like that the writers of this film hadn't read a Fantastic Four comic before agreeing to make this film as anything that you'd expect to find in a good Fantastic Four story just isn't found here with the makers of this film putting alot more focus on the films comedy aspect then they are the plot of the film with the films plot feeling more like an afterthought and while it is better then the plot of the first film that's not really saying all that much as the plot of that film was also pretty bad as well with the plot of this film also not really being really rather entertaining and nor is it really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic and Jessica Alba as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman. Also starring in this film is Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / The Human Torch , Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm / The Thing , Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom / Dt. Doom , Laurence Fishburne as the voice of Norrin Radd / Silver Surfer , Doug Jones as Norrin Radd / Silver Surfer , Kerry Washington as Alicia Masters , Andre Braugher as General Hager , Beau Garrett as Captain Raye , Brian Posehn as The Wedding Minister , Zach Grenier as Mr. Sherman / Rafke and Stan Lee as Rejected Wedding Guest / Himself.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With it being made perfectly clear right from the get go that this films actors are at the very least trying to turn in a good performance with alot of them succeeding in doing so which is something that does make alot of sense as alot of this films actors are returning from the first film however there are some actors in this film that are mis-cast like for example Andre Braugher as General Hager as while he would go on to play a very similar character in Brooklyn Nine-Nine here he feels out of place and like he's trying to to hard to be this forceful character with the other actor that was really miscast in this film being none other then Laurence Fishburne as while he is a good actor no one will ever ever doubt that here he just felt out of place which is odd as the makers of this film already cast the perfect actor to play him in Doug Jones but because he's not a big enough name they went with the bigger named star rather then the actor that's actually better suited to play the part as he would have gotten into the characters head when he did the motion capture work for the character and therefor it would have made sense to cast him as Norrin Rand / Siler Surfer rather then hire another actor to play the same part just in a voice over role with the best actor in this film being none other then Chris Evens as it's clear as day that he's having a blast in playing this character and really knows just what kind of a bad movie that he's in and isn't afraid to ham it up for the cameras when he needs to with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it i that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does hurt the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Wētā FX , Hydraulx , The Orphanage , Giant Killer Robots , Hammerhead Productions , Digiscope , Lola Visual Effects , Pixel Playground , Soho VFX , G Creative Solutions , Sandbox F/X , Custom Film Effects , Image Engine Design , CafeFX , Svengali Visual Effects and RotoFactory. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as alot of this films effects do look really good especially for the time in which they were being made which is something that does make alot of sense as not only does this film have a alot of effects companies working on it but also alot of them do genuinely turn in some really good effects as well and while yes granted some of this films effects don't look as good as they could have done with the chief example of this being Johnny when he has all of the teams powers as it just looks a little bit to fake and while the Silver Surfer himself does look bad in some scenes he does genuinely look really good which is all the more shocking when you take into account that he could have looked really bad given the fact that the technology almost twenty years ago just wasn't there to make him look great and he he turned out looking really good with the worst effect in the whole film being none other then Galactus himself he looks nothing like his comic book counterpart and looks like something that was thrown together at the last minuet as that's just how bad that the character looks and how bad that the effects for his character well and truly are.

As with the other Tim Story Fantastic Four film this film does have more of a family friendly comedy feel to it. With this take on the characters not in any means being a bad thing as the characters are afterall meant to be a family but you still need to give them actually funny things to say and do and that's something that this film and the previous film for that matter fails to do for the most part as while yes granted the jokes in this film do feel like a huge step up interms of quality from what we got in the last film with the last film tho you could tell that there was more of an attempt to still tell a superhero story where as here it feels like the balance has tipped the other way with there being more of a focus on the films OK at best comedy then actually telling a superhero story with this films jokes not being that bad with Ben and Johnny sill having the running joke of Johnny always winding Ben up with his pranks only now thanks to Johnny now being able to gain the powers of whoever touches him Ben can now get some form of revenge which is always funny with the best joke in the whole entire film not even being a joke as during the wedding near the start of the film Sue discovers a zit on her forehead and therefor resolves to keep it hidden by using her powers and just focusing on that one spot which she does no only for that scene but for the rest of the film as well as it never appears in the movie which is a good joke as it's something that you don't really notice upon first viewing but is rather something that will be noticed and really can't be unseen either as it's something that your not really paying all that much attention to and rightfully so as your going to be more focused on the films plot then it's jokes with alot of the films jokes being at best OK which to be fair is tp be expected from one of these Fantastic Four films.

One of the many things that really doesn't work in this film is the fact that they signal quite early on Dr. Doom is going to betray the team. As they have him ask these awkward questions about the Surfers board and even asking the people at the army base where the team are where the board is all of which do make it obvious that he's going to turn on them and sure enough he does exactly that which given that his name is Doom and the fact that he was the villain in the last film it isn't all that shocking that he would turn on them in this film but what is shocking is the fact that the makers of this film thought that it was a good idea to bring him back in for this film as while yes he is the teams more well known foe Galactus on his own is more then strong enough foe to have the team go against and so there's no need to bring back Victor Von Doom as all that does is take away screen time from developing Norrin Rand as a character as that character did have the potential to be the emotional core of the film as here is a character that has had his home , friends and loved ones ripped away from him and is now being forced to prepare other planets to suffer the same fate as his but because of the fact that the film also has to explain why Von Doom is now not only free and maskless after the events of the last film but is also now working with the team it means that he can't be that well developed as a character and any chance that the film has of being good gets flushed down the toilet as it makes no sense for them to bring Doom back and it makes it look like that the makers of this film hadn't read many Fantastic Four comics as there are other villains that could have made for great villains in this film given the films more goofy tone and nature.

Speaking of badly done villains Galactus in this film was such a huge let down as he's been transformed from a giant man eating god like person type of creature to something that is basically a space cloud with hands. Look fair enough they might not have had the technology there to do him fully in CGI and that's fair enough but if that was the case then they could have used movie magic and had him be a live action actor think of how they did the scenes with Gandalf and the hobbits in The Lord Of The Rings films only now you mix in how they did Godzilla in the early Japanese films that would have been ten times better then what they did with him in this film as he is just done so dirty in this film and heck he doesn't even have an end goal in mind and so we the audience don't really have a reason to hate this character outside of the fact that he's the bad guy and that's really it and that might be good enough for a cheaply made kids movie but for a movie that was meant to spawn a sequel and for a character that does have this deep lore it's not that good as all it does is make the makers of this film come across as being lazy as you very easily could have fixed how you do Galactus in this movie just by either watching a few episodes of the Silver Surfer animated series from the nineties or by actually reading issues of the Fantastic Four comic book series in which he appears as the teams main villain and that's it and guess what he would have been well liked by the fans because there would have been actual effort put in to making him an actual character in this movie but because the makers of this film didn't even do the bare minimum the character is just bland and forgettable at best and heck it could even be argued that Dr. Doom is the main villain of the film as he does more damage to the team then what Galactus does as that's just how poorly done he was.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty one minuets and fifty one seconds. With this film having a perfectly solid running time to it as the previous film did have a similar running time to it as well with this film even having just about the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time to it with this film no even using it's running time all that wisely as the plot of the film isn't that well developed as the film doesn't bother to explain why we the audience should care about anything that happens in this film as things that should be in this film like giving the villains a good plan or actually likable characters are all gone in regards to the films plot with them being replaced with bad jokes and a badly done subplot with Johnny learning to be more of a team player and that's it with the film not even taking the time to fully develop any of it's characters all that well either as the Silver Surfer id just a bland character who doesn't get the chance to get across what his personality is like and the rest of the characters either don't talk in the case of Galactus or in the case of every one else or just given bad things to say none of which help to develop any of there characters and while Ben was the main character of the previous film here for some odd reason it's Johnny which makes no sense as by default he's the most unlikable character in the team due to the fact that he's meant to be an annoying character and yet for some odd reason the makers of this film thought that it was a good idea to give him more screen time when it would have helped the film to make either Reid or Sue the films main characters as there characters that are actually likable and then the makers of this film could take the chance to fully develop there relationship and characters alot more then what they do in the final cut of the film but I really will admit that this film really does have some good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films action being the most entertaining aspect of the film as you can tell that the makers put alot more effort into the films action in this film then they did in the previous film as here we get to actually see the team save more then one group of people and while the London scene will never top the bridge action scene in the first film you can tell that the makers of this film learnt there lesson from the first film and had the team working together for a vast majority of the scene however even with that in mind and even the fact that the film does have a really good third act action scene the films best action scene surely has to be the scene where Johnny first chases the Silver Surfer as we get to see just what it is that this new character can do which is something that does tell us the audience just how much trouble that the Fantastic Four are in in this film as he straight up grabs Johnny mid air and chokes him so much that he faints which does show us the audience that this new character can be a real threat to the team when he's working at full strength and while all of the films other action scenes are really good as well none of them get across just how much of threat that the Silver Surfer is quite like how this action scene does with that one aspect being what sets apart that action from all of the other action scenes that really are in this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while it is of course far to early to tell just how goo or bad that this new Fantastic Four film will be one things for sure it can't be as bad as either the 2015 film was or how bad this film was as while yes this film does have some good things to it it also has alot more bad things in it as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 4.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and firs and as well ass ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I person ally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page , the official Fantastic Four Movies fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Fantastic Four Movies fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the official Fantastic Four Movies fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Fantastic Four fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
